Vampire: World of Blood -
Chapter 195 195: Mind, Body, and Heir
Author's Note
Hello, everyone!
I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share an update regarding chapter lengths. Going forward, I'll be experimenting with a mix of shorter and longer chapters. This approach will allow me to update more frequently and, hopefully, boost the book's visibility. Writing consistently longer chapters has been quite taxing; I've been doing it for three months straight! So, alternating between short and long chapters feels like a more sustainable solution.
Also, I'm excited to announce that I've entered a competition with my new book, Law of the Web! This story takes place in the same universe as Vwob but explores a different "fruit" within the Tree of Life. Naturally, it features a completely unique cosmology system.
If you'd like to support me, your Power Stones, comments, and reviews would mean the world to me, especially as the new book gets properly vetted.
This chapter is a shorter one, about 1,600+ words, but to make up for it, I'll be releasing two chapters today, then one after this sometime today. Thank you for your understanding and continued support!
Warm regards,
Author

Merciless's feet touched the ground of the planet within his reality sphere, forged by the power of Abadis. There, he saw her, Lia, waiting patiently for him.
At that moment, his gaze lingered on her, but not out of admiration. It wasn't because she was beautiful; in fact, it was the opposite. He was studying her, trying to decipher and mimic her power and bloodline with his new-found eyes.
Like him, this woman was a variant vampire.
As he observed her, his eyes revealed her true nature, part of the dragon species, akin to Dyeus, just something more experimental. Her body bore the essence of a dragon, yet her form remained distinctly human.
She exhibited the traits of a dragon but without the pure, radiant energy typical of her kind.
She was, in every sense, an anomaly.
Calling her a dragon felt almost insulting. Instead, she resembled a naturally born homunculus, an artificial dragon basically. In this world, dragons were beings of pure energy capable of taking human form or manifesting in biological shapes in the body if they deemed it necessary.
But this woman had no energy form to speak of; her form was just fixed.
Although weaker than a real dragon, Merciless could tell she was still formidable.
Rather, he already knew everything about her; his eyes really outclass the Solomon vampire clan trait by leaps and bonds in a sense.
'… A Ki Dragon, huh…
He mused to himself. A Ki dragon is born from an affinity with nature and representation—what some call ki, aura, or presence. These dragons represented the energy of ki itself, given dragons from what he knew can either be born from a dragon vein or naturally.
Ki, in any name, was the essence that defined individuality, making each being distinct. That is why Ki users have different abilities.
And abilities that had ties to nature, even on an esoteric level.
Though not true, Ki Dragons, this hybrid before his eyes came close in a strange way.
The lineage, however, was tied to their vampiric progression, making them flawed. A contradiction of power and imperfection, she was both fascinating and unsettling to behold.
On the other hand, Merciless realizes that she, Trish, Mia, her sister, and that new kid named Dyeus were tied to the dragon race in some way.
'Heh heh… a lizard clinging to another lizard, huh?'
'Just like monkeys drawing towards other monkeys. Well, they're all still pretty weak compared to me. Then again, my growth rate is ridiculous.'
Merciless chuckled inwardly.
He whispered to himself as he walked towards Lia, both hands in his pockets.
At this point, all of his tails had fused into a single, massive, kaiju-like tail. Its sheer size made it impossible to fit neatly behind him when fused this way, so it floated an inch off the ground, hovering just behind him yet moving as if it were physically attached.
And, in truth, it was connected to him, though in a far more intricate and complex manner. This was no mere parasitic vampiric type familiar like it was Formley; it was an extension of his body, deeply fused with his very being; it was basically his body part now, and in ways that defied simple explanation.
On the other hand, Abadis was no longer present. The reason the reality sphere remained intact, however, was due to the unique nature of Merciless's powers. Although Abadis's power no longer flowed through him since he was currently Merciless and not Abadis.
He already took that into account, and before Abadis disappeared, through the power of Pride, he locked the memory of this ability into existence, ensuring that the reality sphere would remain fixed in this spot, unchanging and eternal, unless Merciless himself decided otherwise. Its very existence had been permanently anchored, its status sealed in place.
On the other hand, he watched Lia and said to himself.
"Still, this one's Murphy's brat. Weirdly enough, even though she was born before me, I'm technically far older than her and even Ragnar, mentally speaking. This child is young, both in mind and body, when compared to me."
"Physically, I'm 283 years old, but thanks to the Queen and the flood of memories living rent-free in my head, I'm exactly 10,958,897 years old. Honestly, I have to admit I'm a strange existence in more ways than one. But that's what happens when your specialty is biology. Although I never thought my biology would evolve to the point where it completely forsakes the full-body path and veers toward something... immaterial."
"Gone are the days of mere flesh, genetics, blood, veins, and bloodlines. What I am now and what I can do now makes me more like an eldritch abomination in the truest sense."
"You might see me, but understanding me? That's another matter entirely. I can still do all that biological stuff, just better and weirder, more on the weird side than anything else, more terrifying too, and vastly more confusing. To be honest, I've accumulated so many abilities at this point and can steal or create even more whenever I want; it's at the point where it's hard to keep track."
"Hmph… When it's all said and done, I'm just a very frightening reality warper. My imagination is my only limit within my own set of limitations, of course. Sure, my range is still that of a Level 5 vampire, but in terms of versatility? I'm unmatched."
He paused his soft musings, letting out a soft, amused chuckle.
"Then again, my kilde, my firstborn creation, Substance, seems to have taken my short-lived specialty right from me. Oh well, kids are destined to surpass their parents, or at least that's what I believe. I don't mind her taking up the mantle and walking the full-body path while I delve into the realm of the mind."
"The mind and body are two sides of the same coin, in a way. My female self completes me in that regard. Heh, she was made in my image, after all."
"While she tackles the horrors of the body, I'll step further into the realm of abstraction. From here on out, we'll only become more horrifying and stronger in our respective ways. She has all my Level 4 abilities but on a Level 5 scale of power and potency. She's got limitations, sure, but the trade-off is that she can do far more with the body than I ever could at Level 4. I can't wait to see what kind of monster she and Ana will become at Level 6."
Merciless laughed to himself, his amusement growing darker with each passing thought.
"The more Substance devours, the stronger she becomes. And the more she grows, the more I know. The stronger she is, the more I am."
With that said, Merciless ended his recap and his hope for the future; he was now before Lia.
Who was looking at him with a troubled look on her face.
Naturally, he began to speak.
"You... let us cut right to the chase; I know everything you are thinking, so go ahead and ask your questions."
Ha, Lia looked at Merciless, her face blushing at the very sight.
On the other hand, Merciless could hear her thoughts as clearly as day.
'I mean, yeah, vampires are supposed to be all charming and ridiculously good-looking, but come on! Isn't he, like, too dazzling? And with that stoic expression? Ugh, it's not even fair!...
Lia said, her face getting redder and redder by the second.
Her thoughts drifted further and further from the initial.
'I usually cast a mind blocker array on my ichor ahead of time, you know, to block mind tricks, mind reading, possession, and charm stuff, but it doesn't work on things with actual natural beauty. Are you seriously telling me someone can look this good? Like, how is that even allowed?'
Merciless, on the other hand, gave Lia a dull look and said,.
"So you are just going to be quiet?"
"Aghh... sorry about that."
'Eos above, how embarrassing! Why am I suddenly acting like this? You're 110 years old; for crying out loud, pull yourself together! But then again... maybe my weird reaction when I am near him like this has already answered the question I keep asking myself. It's just more proof, isn't it? My blood... it sings for him."
'Aghh, stop acting weird, Lia, He is probably thinking you are some kind of shy weirdo by now... yeah let's just stop acting weird and ask him directly.'
With that said, Lia folded her hand and got right to the point as she looked up and asked.
"Umm... I know this might be weird to ask, but by chance, are you our clan heir?"
