Chapter 28 - 28 28 Full and Satisfied
28: Chapter 28: Full and Satisfied 28: Chapter 28: Full and Satisfied When Ouyang Feiting saw the large bird in Wang Yan’s hand, her eyes widened instantly.
She quickly hid the few roasted cicada larvae she held up in mid-air behind her back.
Earlier, she couldn’t wait for Wang Yan to see these cicada larvae, but now she wished she could find a hole to crawl into.
“They eat meat, you eat bugs, yet you still have the face to show off.”
“Damn it, how did Wang Yan catch such a big bird?”
“He must have been lucky, the bird must have knocked itself out by hitting a tree, allowing him to pick it up.
Damn, his luck is too good.”
“But ha, he doesn’t have fire.
Without fire, he can’t eat it, so catching it is pointless.”
Just then, Wang Yan threw the large giant bird onto the ground, glanced at Ouyang Feiting, and said, “Lend me some firewood.”
Ouyang Feiting immediately felt smug: “Hum, not lending.
You can eat it raw.”
Wang Yan shrugged, with a nonchalant expression on his face, picked up a broken piece of wood from the ground, placed it down, and then found a sharp stone, gripping it with both hands to drill into the broken wood.
Upon seeing this, Ouyang Feiting finally understood what Wang Yan was doing and laughed uncontrollably: “So funny, you actually want to start a fire by drilling wood?
Hahaha, if you could make fire like that, you’d probably have starved to death already, hahaha…”
Ouyang Feiting laughed so hard she nearly cried.
But just then, there was a “whoosh” sound, and suddenly flames appeared on the end of the broken wood.
Ouyang Feiting was shocked and quickly looked down, seeing the flames rising—actual flames.
Ouyang Feiting couldn’t believe it; drilling wood for fire was so simple and quick.
What use would matches be anymore?
As Ouyang Feiting was stunned, Wang Yan walked to the beach, moistened the soil with seawater, wrapped the big bird in it, forming a mud pack, and set it on the fire to roast.
After a short while, the mud pack dried up, and the scent of meat started wafting from the cracks in the mud.
“All done!” Wang Yan smiled, took the mud pack off the fire, and opened it, releasing a burst of fragrant aroma, the genuine smell of roasted meat, with a hint of salty sea flavor.
Roasting wrapped in mud, the bird meat was tender and not greasy, yet fatty enough to drip oil.
Watching Wang Yan tear off a piece of meat and eat it sweetly, Ouyang Feiting’s stomach grumbled uncontrollably.
Ouyang Feiting thought to herself: “Wrapping in mud—that’s the beggar’s chicken method.
I’ve eaten it at a five-star hotel before, yet Wang Yan’s seems even tastier than the hotel’s.
How come this guy has so many tricks?”
Ouyang Feiting stared at the large, fragrant roasted bird in Wang Yan’s hand, and her mouth watered uncontrollably.
Just then, she remembered she hadn’t eaten the roasted cicada larvae behind her yet.
Ouyang Feiting reached behind her, grabbed one cicada larva, and shoved it in her mouth.
The cicada larvae that previously tasted sweet suddenly became dry and tasteless, as if she were chewing wax.
Ouyang nearly forced down several cicada larvae.
Wang Yan quickly finished the big bird, stood up, and burped.
Wang Yan said: “I’m full, oh, and a bit thirsty.”
Hearing this, Ouyang Feiting got excited again and laughed: “Haha, Wang Yan, oh Wang Yan, now you realize, huh?
On the island, though surrounded by seawater, you can’t drink it.
Without fresh water, being full isn’t helpful; you’ll faint if you don’t drink for three days.”
Saying this, Ouyang Feiting jumped off the rock, retrieved the bowl she buried in the earth from under the rock, and found it contained half a bowl of water.
This was the groundwater Ouyang Feiting collected over half a day.
Ouyang Feiting placed the bowl to her mouth, slowly savoring like sipping a cup of coffee, while her mouth made satisfied noises: “So sweet!”
Just then, Wang Yan lifted his hand and struck a military shovel against a nearby tree.
The trunk shook violently, leaves rustled, and then countless droplets fell from the leaves.
These were the dewdrops left on the leaves.
Wang Yan lifted the military shovel smoothly and swung it around, producing a “pitter-patter” sound, and catching a small pile of clean water in the shovel’s recess.
Wang Yan tilted his head back, drinking the water collected in the shovel.
With a loud gulp, Wang Yan smiled: “Quenching, but not enough yet.”
Then, Wang Yan struck another tree.
After several attempts, Wang Yan was finally satiated, rubbed his neck, burped, and laughed: “Now I can sleep.”
With that, Wang Yan leaped onto a nearby large tree, chose a forked branch, and lay down.
Before long, Wang Yan was sound asleep.
At this moment, Ouyang Feiting remembered the small bowl in her hand she hadn’t drunk yet.
Seeing the pitiful half bowl of water, Ouyang Feiting felt like Wang Yan was driving her crazy.
“What kind of person is this?
Why does he do everything unconventionally?
Why didn’t I learn these skills after three months of survival training?
God, this guy is driving me insane!”
Ouyang Feiting was hungry and thirsty.
Comparing herself to Wang Yan made her feel unbalanced.
People hate comparisons; if Wang Yan were still hungry now, Ouyang Feiting would feel satisfied and wouldn’t feel so thirsty and hungry.
But Wang Yan was eating meat and drinking water in large gulps, causing Ouyang Feiting to feel extremely angry.
Ouyang Feiting stood up, thought: “Hum, at least I have a sleeping bag to keep warm; you can sleep on the tree and freeze to death overnight.”
Saying this, Ouyang Feiting took her backpack to get her sleeping bag to sleep; but then, she saw a half roasted bird placed under her bag, left without her knowing when.
Ouyang Feiting froze, immediately understanding it was Wang Yan who secretly left it for her.
Ouyang Feiting gritted her teeth, kicked the half bird away, and shouted at Wang Yan in the distance: “Wang Yan, I won’t eat it; don’t think you’ll win.
You will be my slave; just wait.”
However, after shouting for a while, Wang Yan didn’t respond, only his snoring could be heard from afar.
Ouyang Feiting angrily crawled into her sleeping bag.
Although she kicked half the roasted bird away, its aroma kept wafting towards her.
Ouyang Feiting could avoid looking and listening, but she couldn’t stop breathing, so the aroma continually invaded her nostrils.
Ouyang Feiting tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Then she sat up, planning to throw the half roasted bird into the sea.
But as soon as she sat up, she saw the roasted bird covered in ants.
Ouyang Feiting gritted her teeth in anger.
Although she kicked the roasted bird away, it was wasteful to let such a delicious thing feed the ants; it was all Wang Yan’s fault.
“Darn kid, you just wait; I’ll defeat you, and then everything will be repaid to me twice.”
Ouyang Feiting endured hunger and thirst and finally fell asleep, but in her dreams, she still saw a fragrant roasted bird flying around her.
But the flying bird was too far away; although she wanted to catch it, she couldn’t reach it throughout the night.
Finally, Ouyang Feiting saw the roasted flying bird approach, reached out, caught the roasted bird, and was greeted by a delicious aroma wafting into her nose.
Ouyang Feiting delightedly opened her eyes, realizing she had just dreamt it.
But when she took a sniff, the aroma was still there.
Ouyang Feiting quickly got up and saw Wang Yan not far away, roasting bird eggs he somehow caught, emitting the aroma.
“Wang Yan—” Ouyang Feiting finally couldn’t hold it any longer; her scream pierced the island’s silence.
From the distant jungle, startled birds soared into the sky, flying away.
