Universe Infinite Canteen -
Chapter 785 - 785: Maybe We Should Change the Person After All
Ma Lu led everyone out of the teleportation room and began familiarizing themselves with the ship's interior.
After several days of meticulous repairs and modifications by Yan Wu and Wrench, the spaceship had seen significant changes compared to before. In addition to new energy and propulsion systems, the interior had been fully renovated.
The originally empty sixteen crew cabins were now fully furnished with furniture and bedding.
Ma Lu, now wealthy, spared no expense during procurement, opting for top-tier international brands to ensure maximum comfort.
Furthermore, the public areas had been revamped, equipped with a kitchen, dining room, bathroom, gym, game room, meditation room, reading room, and conference room…
The hardware store owner even generously sponsored a brand-new life support system and a small escape capsule, the latter of which he had dismantled from his own Plane Spaceship.
However, the firepower system was still lacking; it was hard to source a ship-mounted main cannon and shield. Fortunately, it didn't affect normal travel.
To be on the safe side, Lao Hei had also hired bodyguards, ensuring that if danger arose, they could call for reinforcements.
After Ma Lu assigned the rooms, he took a walk around the bridge. As the spaceship slowly ascended from the crater's bottom on The Moon and broke free from lunar orbit, the hardware store owner, doubling as the navigator, pulled up the route map to Aurora Trade Port from the star chart library.
The Warp Pulse Engine's output power climbed rapidly within a short time, causing spatial distortion around the ship and successfully enabling the ship to enter faster-than-light mode, shuttling across planes.
In just a day and a half, the spaceship would arrive at its destination.
Yan Wu wiped the sweat from his forehead. "It's been a while since I last piloted a spaceship. Good thing I reviewed some materials before departure."
"You've got quite the talent," Ma Lu praised. "Just looking at all those buttons makes me dizzy."
"What about you?" Yan Wu glanced sideways at Ma Lu. "We've basically met all your demands, but saving the world hinges on the dishes you make. Have you decided what to cook yet?"
"Not yet. But we still have five days. I've decided to come up with an answer during the journey."
"..."
"I told you — this trip is pretty much a death sentence," Mr. Furball said, sipping on white liquor with a sigh.
"Don't be so pessimistic. I've essentially mastered the use of creativity in cooking. All that's left is deciding on the dish itself. We're one step away from victory," Ma Lu assured.
However, within 24 hours of Ma Lu boasting confidently, every trial dish he attempted failed miserably. Not one new dish was successfully made.
Realizing he might be too tired, Ma Lu decided to sleep. When he woke up, the spaceship had already reached Aurora Trade Port in Plane 1337.
The name Aurora Trade Port was fitting. Overhead, one could observe vibrant plasma lights glowing in myriad colors year-round.
When the Pink Whale Ship passed through the flowing green aurora belt, Angie was nearly mesmerized to the point of speechlessness by the view outside the porthole.
She froze for a full three seconds before whipping out her phone and snapping countless photos.
As her gaze lowered to the ships constantly taking off and landing around the trade port, she felt as though she'd stepped into a scene straight out of a sci-fi blockbuster.
Yan Wu, meanwhile, had already connected to the port's official communication channel. He spoke: "Control tower, this is the Pink Whale Ship, a small transport vessel belonging to the Dute QW Transport Group. Requesting permission to dock."
Most smuggling ships are affiliated with legitimate company names to gain access to planes' aviation ports.
Some of these companies are legitimate businesses, but many are actually shell corporations registered by the smugglers themselves—for example, Dute QW Transport Group.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, the hardware store owner decided to use the previously registered information to enter Aurora Trade Port.
A female voice on the communication channel asked them to wait, seemingly verifying their identity. For a full quarter-hour, the channel was silent.
Just as everyone began suspecting their smuggling ship's cover had been blown and a patrol team was about to be dispatched to capture them, the female voice finally returned.
"You're lucky. Berth 46 at Dock 3 just opened up. You may dock for up to 25 minutes."
"Only half an hour?" Yan Wu frowned.
"Yes, only half an hour. There are 29 ships queuing ahead of you, but they're all too large to dock at Berth 46. Otherwise, you'd still be waiting."
"Alright then."
"Follow the guide drone ahead; it'll lead you to the berth. Oh, and," the female voice paused momentarily, "welcome to Aurora Trade Port."
She truly seemed busy, as she disconnected the channel immediately after speaking.
The hardware store owner then piloted the Pink Whale Ship, following the drone until they stopped ahead of a berth that was just a few meters wider than the ship itself.
"Can you back into this berth? It looks pretty tight," Ma Lu voiced his concern.
"Shouldn't be a problem," Yan Wu replied confidently. "My skills are solid."
"Are you sure? When's the last time you docked a Plane Spaceship—1,000 years ago?"
"..."
"Ah, so I was right."
"I still have muscle memory," retorted the old Werewolf, his pride refusing to allow defeat.
"How about someone else does it? What about you?" Ma Lu turned to Wrench.
The latter shook his head. "I'm an engineer, not a pilot. However, based on my calculations, if Mr. Yan handles docking, the probability of an accident is 63.5%."
"Over 60%? Damn, maybe we should find someone else. We don't have insurance," Ma Lu said.
"Stop arguing!" Yan Wu shouted. "We only have 25 minutes. I'll get it done. Just shut up and stay quiet."
Ma Lu stopped talking, and the others held their breath, watching Yan Wu adjust the engine's power to its lowest setting. He carefully gripped the control stick, gently swaying it left and right to fine-tune the ship's positioning.
Yan Wu's focused countenance unexpectedly inspired trust within Ma Lu.
He mused that Old Yan truly was dependable.
After all, Yan Wu had lived nearly two millennia—he'd consumed more salt than most people had rice.
While Ma Lu contemplated, Yan Wu had already aligned the port on the left hull with the berth's docking interface.
As Yan Wu pushed the control stick forward, the ship wobbled its way into the berth.
Finally, with a "clunk," the ship's docked port locked securely onto the berth's interface.
Yan Wu wiped the sweat from his forehead and declared, "See? Told you I could dock it."
"Impressive!" Ma Lu gave him a thumbs-up. "Boss Yan, you're as sharp as ever, although I think I heard another sound just now."
"What sound?"
The group stepped off the ship, and Ma Lu quickly noticed a massive, ten-meter-long scratch running along the hull of the adjacent private ship.
The end of the scratch was aligned perfectly with the Pink Whale's tail section.
Upon seeing the scratch, everyone fell silent—including Yan Wu.
And, as luck would have it, the owner of the private ship arrived at the dock right then, his eyes flaring with rage upon spotting the glaring scratch on his beloved vessel.
Ma Lu was already preparing to apologize and even instructed Old Yan to prepare compensation, but to their surprise, the owner merely shot them a vicious glare before storming onto his ship and flying away without saying a single word.
