Shen Yi looked at Li Lingyun and asked "What happened? Why do you look so angry?"

"What is your relationship with Lin An?"

"We have no relationship. I just see him as the person who saved my life."

"And yet you visited him over four times just last week. Why?"

What? How did he know that? "How long have you been following me?"

Li Lingyun ignored her question and asked "How do you know Lin An because obviously it wasn’t from when you had the accident. Is he your new lover?"

Lin Yan frowned "What?"

"You have been to his house, a lot of times even before you had the accident. Was the accident a way for the two of you to get me to invest in his company."

Li Lingyun looked at Shen Yi coldly but the truth is, he was hurt. He felt his heart shredding to pieces and it was hurting him badly. "But why did you do that? You could have just force or threatened me to invest in your lover’s business, just as you usually did with Mu Chen."

"You are wrong. Lin An is not my lover. What nonesense are you saying?"

"Then what is he? I had to watch in front of my family as you defended another man, Shen Yi. If Lin An isn’t your lover then tell me who is he to you."

"He is just my friend!" Lin Yan with tears in her eyes.

"Friend? Do you really expect me to believe that?" Li Lingyun said, his gaze soften when he saw Shen Yi tears, but he decided to harden his heart. He did not wish to be in a relationship with lies, to give his heart to someone who will shatter it whenever she please. He may be cold to the outside world but he also wanted someone to love him, was he that undeserving of love.

"Why asked me if he was my lover, if you weren’t going to believe me." Lin Yan cleaned her tears and said "You are right, Lin An is more than a friend to me and even if time were to reverse, I will defend him again and again."

She was about to leave the room when Li Lingyun held her arms and said "I can get him arrested for assaulting Fang Min."

Lin Yan looked at Li Lingyun coldly and said "Do that and I will never forgive you."

She removed her arm from Li Lingyun hold and left.

Li Lingyun stood alone in the empty room, hoping that she would come back to him but instead when the door to the room opened, Meng Zhu entered and said "Is everything alright between you and Shen Yi? I just saw her leaving the hotel in haste."

"I’m taking Li Xiao home. Can you help me to round off the party?"

Meng Zhu nodded and said "I will take of it."

"Thank you." Li Lingyun said and left.

Lin An opened his door when he heard a knock on his door, and was surprised to see his sister looking so lifeless "What happened to you? And besides aren’t you supposed to be with Li Xiao."

Lin Yan burst into tears and hugged Lin An tightly "What’s wrong?"

"We had a fight. He accused me of having an affair with you." Lin Yan said but when she saw no expression in her brother face, she said "You don’t look surprised. And why are you standing in the doorway, don’t you plan to let me in?"

Lin An sighed and allowed her to enter.

"It’s not that I’m not surprised but what did you expect? You defended a man who you did not know with your life."

Lin Yan scoffed and said "If only that was all, what pissed me off the most is that he has been following me."

"What? So he knew?" Lin An asked as he pass a can of beer to Lin Yan.

"He knew that I have been seeing you even before you met him at the hospital." Lin Yan said as she sat on the floor and drank a huge amount of beer.

Lin An who wanted to sit on the couch, followed his sister and sat on the floor as well.

"What did you tell him?" Lin An asked.

"I told him we were just friends but he didn’t believe it. All the Li’s are jerk."

Lin An chuckle and said "If I was in his shoe, I would think that you were having an affair too."

Lin Yan glared at her brother and asked "Are you supporting him or me?"

"You. I will always support you."

Lin Yan smiled and said "We have come a long way haven’t we? We made the right decision, when we decided to leave that crappy neighborhood. Even till this day I don’t regret killing that bastard."

Lin An eyes were distant as he drank his beer before he suddenly asked "On the day that woman died, what did she tell you?"

That woman, that was the name they decided to call their mother.

Lin Yan opened her third can of beer, drank a mouthful and said "She told me that I was just like her, crazy like her and would never find love just like her." Tears filled Lin Yan eyes as she said "I badly wanted to prove her wrong, but when I pushed my classmate down the stairs for calling me crazy and when I shot at our step father, her words kept ringing in my ears." Lin Yan cleaned her tears and continue "When I saw Li Jun, I thought he was my prince charming and when we got married, I was happy because I proved to that woman that I could find love. But it all went to hell the day I saw saw Li Jun kissing another woman in his office."

Lin Yan opened her fourth can of beer when Lin An held her hands and said "That’s enough."

"This will be my last."

"You are already drunk."

Lin Yan sighed and asked "I have live a pathetic life, haven’t I? Raised by crazy mother and abusive stepfather, watched as the crazy mother killed herself, killed her step father, expelled from highschool for pushing a kid from the stairs, got lucky to be accepted in a university, married a despicable man like Li Jun, accused of being barren for three years, got pregnant after three years, found her husband kissing another woman who did not only have a child for him but she was also currently pregnant and as if that wasn’t enough, she got hit by a truck, losing her life and that of her child." She looked at Lin An who was staring at her with tears in his eyes as she asked "The life of Lin Yan was a very pathetic one, right?"

Lin An squeeze the can of beer in his hands as he said "No, it wasn’t a pathetic one because you remained strong even till the end."

Lin Yan scoffed and said "Now, I have a big hotel, flashy cars at my disposal and millions in my account and I even have a black card, but the truth is, they aren’t mine. Li Xiao isn’t my daughter and Li Lingyun isn’t my husband, they are all Shen Yi’s. And there are times when I become scared that any day from now, I will lose both of them, that I will become just like that woman."

At that moment, Lin Yan began to cry loudly when she felt a warm embrace. She hugged Lin An and hid in his chest as she cried.

As Lin An hugged his sister, his eyes remain distant, no one could tell what was going on in his mind.
