Chapter 353: Chapter 353: He’s Lying!

The three of them turned their heads together.

Approaching was a portly middle-aged man, his slicked-back hair shining, his rich belly jiggling as he ran, the gold chain around his neck and the jade sparkling blindingly in the sun.

Trailing him were two men carrying safes, dressed in black suits, looking like private bodyguards.

All three jogged up the hill, and eventually, the overweight man stopped in front of the courtyard, panting heavily while he didn’t forget to exchange pleasantries with Liu Suqing.

"Master Liu, I’m here. You haven’t forgotten about me, have you?"

Liu Suqing didn’t bother to hide her disdain.

"Shi Mao Ren, haven’t I told you not to come?"

Shi Mao Ren chuckled and pushed the door open to walk through.

"With Master Liu here, how could I possibly not come? I’ve put in quite an effort to visit you, I’ve never climbed a mountain this many times in my life."

Jiang Li’s gaze moved to his feet.

A pair of leather shoes, polished dark and bright, were virtually free of any mud.

On the contrary, the two bodyguards behind him had their shoes covered in deep tread marks.

Jiang Li chuckled inwardly without a change in expression, lifting the teacup in front of her to take a sip.

What Jiang Li had noticed, Liu Suqing naturally had as well.

She let out a cold snort and stood up, "I’m sorry, Boss Shi, my modest place can’t accommodate such a great Buddha like you; you should leave."

"What do you mean by that, Master Liu?" Shi Mao Ren was getting upset, "If you don’t welcome people, then who are they?"

Saying so, he pointed at Jiang Li.

Jiang Li glanced at the jade filling all five of his fingers and frowned in displeasure.

Such an impolite man.

Liu Suqing’s expression turned even colder, "They, like you, will be leaving shortly."

Shi Mao Ren was even more displeased, "Master Liu, that seems a bit unreasonable. There is always a first-come, first-served order to things. I’ve come so many times and you’ve never offered me a sip of tea. Instead, these two people, who came out of nowhere, get to enjoy your hospitality. So, are you going to help them next?"

"Shi Mao Ren, you—"

As Liu Suqing was about to fly into a rage, and a war of words seemed inevitable, Jiang Li quickly stood up and pulled at Liu Suqing’s sleeve.

Liu Suqing looked at her, surprised.

When she saw the resolute light in the girl’s eyes, she seemed to realize something and let out a snort before sitting back down.

Jiang Li looked at the fat man with a beaming smile.

"Boss Shi, right? You’re correct; my mother and I indeed have a favor to ask of Miss Liu. May I ask if Boss Shi is seeking the same?"

Looking at the radiant Jiang Li, Shi Mao Ren’s attitude softened somewhat, though he still held his chin up arrogantly.

"Yeah, I came to ask Master Liu to embroider a ’longevity’ picture for me. My mother is about to celebrate her 70th birthday soon, and she particularly loves Master Liu’s work. That’s why she sent me to plead with her to come out of retirement."

As he spoke, he approached Liu Suqing, his voice choked with emotion.

"Master Liu, this past month I’ve been running around nearly every day. I won’t even mention the sunburn, but my mother’s health is deteriorating more and more. I can’t let her die with resentment, can I? Please fulfill this wish of mine, I’ll agree to any conditions you set!"

Liu Suqing initially had a tough stance, but when she heard Shi Mao Ren cry about his mother’s failing health, a flicker of emotion crossed her eyes.

Just as she was about to relent, Jiang Li took a step forward.

"He’s lying."

In that instant, everyone turned to look at her.

Shi Mao Ren’s face briefly twisted with rage before he forcefully suppressed the dissatisfaction in his heart and looked at Jiang Li with a glare.

"Miss, I have not provoked or wronged you in any way. Why do you say I’m lying?"

Jiang Li’s gaze swept faintly over his Yintang area.

"Although I’m not skilled, I know a little about Face Reading. I see that Boss Shi’s parents’ palace is full and ruddy, your parents must be healthy and long-lived. Your mother should live to at least 90. How could she fall gravely ill at 70?"

"This..." Shi Mao Ren hadn’t expected this young girl who seemed so young to be knowledgeable in Face Reading, and was dumbfounded, unable to retort.

Jiang Li followed with a cold huff, "How good can a person be who uses his own mother’s health as a bargaining chip? With a triangle-shaped Yintang, upturned brows and eyes, driven by self-interest, a thin and pale upper lip, a broad nose and ears; he is vengeful. I guess that you asking for the longevity artwork is false, auctioning it in Miss Liu’s name in the market is the truth, right?"

"You—"

Now, Liu Suqing had also come to her senses and coldly slammed the table as she stood up.

"Well done, Shi Mao Ren. I thought you were filial and considered pitying you, but this was your intention? Don’t dirty my place, take your people and get out now!"

Shi Mao Ren, having been exposed, flew into a rage.

"Well played, Liu Suqing, you choose punishment over a toast? I’ve been begging you for so many days to give you face, and this is how you treat me? Fine, you just wait!"

With that, he glared fiercely at the three of them, then stormed out angrily.

Lin Manru approached with some concern.

"Master Liu, are you alright? Shi Mao Ren doesn’t seem easy to deal with, and it’s easy for you living alone to get into trouble. Shall I arrange for some people to protect you?"

"No need," Liu Suqing gathered her shawl around her and took a deep breath. "He’s all talk and no action; he doesn’t have the guts. All these years I’ve been out in the world haven’t been for nothing; if he really dares to do anything, I’ll make sure he regrets it."

After she spoke, she sipped the tea on the table and finally calmed down.

"Please, sit down. One thing at a time, since I’ve promised to help you, I won’t go back on my word."

Lin Manru and Jiang Li exchanged glances, and then Lin Manru took out her design drawings from her bag.

She briefly described to Liu Suqing the original intent and concept behind her design of the garment.

"...Lili told me adding some embroidery here would look very nice, but it’s very hard to find a highly skilled embroidery lady in such a short time, that’s why we came over to give it a try."

Liu Suqing looked at the design drawing for a long while before slowly speaking, "Are you saying... this outfit is designed for your daughter?"

"Yes." As she spoke, Lin Manru showed a knowing smile. "There’s not much I can do as a mother. It’s Lili’s first public appearance, and of course, I want to give her the best. In my view, only Master Liu’s craftsmanship is the best in the world."

A mysterious sorrow flickered in Liu Suqing’s eyes as she caressed the floral pattern and murmured, "Yes, a mother always wants to give her daughter the best things in the world."

"I’ll take on the job... and for free."
