Chapter 672: Mei-Mei, the little ballerina

The Lito dancer studio was inside the emperor’s courts, and for this reason, the parents and relatives of the children could actually walk to the venue. However, the rich never did anything lightly because even those who lived five minutes away from the venue drove their expensive cars to it.

Chi Lian was actually glad that had done her nails and dressed up elegantly because so had most parents. It was mostly mothers but they wore classy dresses and skirts, with heels and perfectly made up faces.

They alighted from their expensive cars, and waved or smiled gently at each other when they met at the entrance of the studio.

The studio itself was no small venue, it occupied a large space and could fit at least two hundred people. Even the upper floor was occupied by The Lito dancer, it was used by the older children, of ages six to ten.

This lower floor was used by the little ones and it was also where the staging for the dancing studio’s shows were held every year.

Chi Lian was still in the car, waiting for Muyang who was running late because he had been teaching a class. He had assured her that he would reach in ten minutes, so she decided to wait. The advantage of this being an event inside the courts was that seats were also assigned according to hierarchy.

Those from wealthier and more privileged families usually sat at the front, and their seat numbers were assigned on the tickets. For this reason, she did not need to rush inside and book the best seat in the venue, it was saved for her already.

Rose, however would not wait because she had a few friends her age in there who had come to support their siblings and she went in search of them.

While Chi Lian was perfectly okay with waiting, Qi Qing knocked on the car window.

Chi Lian frowned and lowered it.

"Miss, the young miss is asking for you." Qi Qing said.

"Isn’t she supposed to be with the other children back stage?" Chi Lian asked while shifting her body and getting out of the car.

"The parents are allowed to interact briefly with their children and say some encouraging words. The little miss is about to cry because her friends are with their mothers but you are not there." Qi Qing explained.

"Oh," Chi Lian felt guilty for allowing her daughter even feel sad for a few seconds. She hastened her steps and rushed backstage, in search of her daughter.

"Mei-Mei," she hurried to the little girl who was pouting in nanny Fang’s arms.

"Mommy." Mei-Mei called lazily, in a tear filled voice.

Chi Lian took Mei-Mei quickly from nanny Fang and she comforted the little girl. "Sweet baby, mummy is here."

"Mommy," Mei-Mei called, again, and this time, she even sniveled.

"It’s okay, no crying, hmm, you are mummy’s brave girl. Why is mummy’s darling crying? Are you scared?" Chi Lian found a chair to seat and she wiped Mei-Mei fat tears away.

Her baby’s hair was decorated with shiny hair pins and held up by white furry ribbons. She was wearing a white ballet dress with an image of silver wings which appeared to be expertly handsewn and white slippers. She had been transformed into a beautiful little ballerina.

"Mmm," Mei-Mei nodded.

"Don’t be, remember, mummy, daddy, Mengze and Rose will be sitting in front. Just play with your friends, hmm." she told her.

She was sure that Mei-Mei would only be on that stage for probably less than five minutes at a time. Her daughter was not the best at concentrating on activities for long periods of time.

She opened a lemon drop and Mei-Mei opened her mouth and ate it.

"Look at that, such a pretty baby, you are mummy’s little angel." Chi Lian praised her.

It took a while and three lemon drops, two strawberry candies and lots of hugs, but Mei-Mei calmed down and joined her little group of friends. The shy little girls also came looking candies and she distributed them out evenly.

Most of the mothers recognized Chi Lian and they smiled at her gratefully.

Chi Lian stayed there until the teacher in charge of the recital sent all the anxious mothers away. Even before leaving, Chi Lian could hear one little girl burst into tears.

"No wonder the tickets were expensive, they include a baby sitting fee. Whose idea was this? They are just little kids, what do they know about dancing? They should have just told the children to dance freely around on stage" T4 said, very judgmentally.

"Do you have children?" she reiterated.

"I am a system pet, how can I have children?" he asked her.

"Really," Chi Lian said to him, "That should be included in your settings, if you have customer services tell me so that I can can lodge a complaint on your behalf. What if I want my pet to have offspring?"

"You can get a an additional pet." T4 suggested.

"It’s not the same." she told him.

She located her seat and found Rose and Mengze already sitting in place, playing a game on her phone. Muyang had not yet arrived because his seat was empty.

The moment she sat down, little monk threw one of his small hands over hers. His eyes stayed on the phone in Rose’s hands, not missing a single move that she made.

"Your parents and grand parents are here." T4 mentioned. "In fact, even the entire Jun family is here and some of your cousins. I don’t know if I should be impressed or horrified because they have gathered for the recital of a little girl who cannot even execute a proper leap."

T4’s words brought a smile to her face, whether Mei-Mei was good at leaping or not, what mattered was that she has supportive family members.

Someone tapped her on the shoulder and she looked back, thinking that she would see one of those relatives or her parents. That was not who she saw however, it was Si Cong, someone she had not met in close to a year.

"Miss Chi." he said, "How wonderful to see you again."

"Young master Si, wow." she replied. "It’s good to see you too and it’s surprising. What are you doing here?"

"My sister owns everything child related and is named little, Lito to be exact." He spelled the letters out for clarity.

"Oh, I did not know that." Chi Lian responded. "It’s great that I know someone connected to the studios. I will give you a call when I need a discount."

Young master Si Cong laughed and shook his head, "I think the fees should be raised for you. You are a wealthy woman now after all."

"I have always been wealthy young master Si," she replied, cockily.

He looked at her with fondness in his eyes, a look which reminded her so much of the way Chi Wei used to look at Jian Yu. As a married woman, it brought her discomfort.

She knew back then that Si Cong had a tiny crush on her but it appeared as if the crush had blossomed instead of wilting.

"I told you to call me by my name, the last time we saw each other." he reminded her.

Someone sat down beside Chi Lian, and she turned to see who. As a matter of fact, she knew who it was by his scent alone.

"’Wife," he said, loud enough for Si Cong to hear. "Did I make you wait too long?"

"No, hubby, you are just in time." she answered.

"Look, I brought you and Mei-Mei matching hair pins." he diverted all of her attention, ensuring that she gave all of her attention to him.

And when she was busy admiring the hair pins, he looked back and smirked at Si Cong. When she looked up, he smiled and pretended, as if he had been looking at her all along.
