Chapter 649: Not on my watch.
Chapter 649: Not on my watch.
Going with her plan, the unconscious man was strapped on to Muyang’s back and they left the weapons factory walking steadily. The load on his back did not slow him down even once, and he kept up with her speed.
Soldiers were littered all over the compound like ants on a mission. They foraged every corner of the place that was accessible and carried out or looted, in her opinion everything that was of value. When they finished their final checks, the building would be set on fire.
It was overkill, to her, not even the fields had been spared as they too were set on fire.
She heard loud noises and when she looked up at the sky, helicopters were landing on the island, directly above the crater where the space ship sat.
"Hmph, they were certainly quick about it." She said to herself.
"They have to be." Muyang who heard her said. "They need to make it disappear as quickly as possible and bury it as deep as possible before tearing it apart piece by piece. Before the night ends, a team will have been assembled to secretly start studying the ship."
"So what happens to my plan to air a story about the paintings in the cave? I am pretty sure that they are going to blow it up as soon as they take what they want." Would it be as it always was, she would be requested to cover up the story.
"It depends, don’t forget about the buried treasure in the ground on the island. The emperor will not risk losing even one tiny bit of it so nothing will be blown up for the time being. It’s even possible that a portion of the wall will be dismantled or carved and carried away for further research. But, don’t worry about your story, I will negotiate and ensure that you air it."
She wrapped her left hand around his arm and smiled. "Thank you hubby, work hard."
"I will." He tightened his own arm and made sure that her hand was firmly locked in place. "Chi-Chi, good job today. You have saved many lives through your valiance and courage. You will not be receiving any public commendations for what you have done, but these people will always remember you. I, your husband will always remember."
"Uhm, you did good too hubby. You even lost and eye because of this mission. Nobody will ever know why or how you lost your eye. That emperor Long had better compensate us generously for this loss." Every time she thought about his eye, she could not help being angered and her eyes would well up inevitably.
Muyang stopped moving and forced her to look into his eyes because he knew just what to expect would be coming next. It was the same anytime she spoke about the loss of his eye. "Are you going to cry again?" He asked her.
"No." She lied.
"I can see the tears in your eyes you know. Aren’t you all cried out yet about it?"
"No." She blurted out honestly.
"Come here." He pulled her to his chest for a hug and he proceeded to pat her back in a comforting manner.
She hid in his chest and fought the stupid tears which were fighting back as well, demanding to be let out. To her, even though Muyang had accepted the loss and moved on, she had not. She still wanted to vent out more of her anger because Yan Daya had not been enough.
"How about I ask for the jeweled dragon’s egg as compensation?" He said, slowly and in a voice which she could tell was filled with humor.
He was teasing her because they both knew that the egg was a royal inheritance which the emperor would never give up.
"Ask for it, if he says no then ask for something equal in value. Make sure that you ask for something which will make him feel like his own skin is being peeling off." She wanted the emperor to feel that loss for as long as possible.
"Yes my lovely wife." He agreed.
"Host, if you two are done patting on yourselves on the back, being sad and plotting, then you should hurry to the shores before a massacre begins."
"Now what?" She asked and let go of Muyang.
"I don’t think our plans align with the emperor’s because it looks to me like the soldiers intend on getting rid of everything on the island to do with this event including the people."
"Muyang, I have to see if Fu Jui’s sister is among the rescued women. Let’s hurry." She pulled his hand and they abandoned their lackadaisical steps, breaking into a full run and they got to the beach just as the first gun was fired by a soldier whose entire face was covered with a black mask.
She fired her gun as well, aiming at the bullet since hers were faster and stronger. It hit the electric fence and fell to the ground.
It looked like the soldier was preparing to aim again and Muyang jumped in and kicked him on his ankle, forcing the soldier to fall down onto his knees. He pointed his own gun at the soldier in the mask and looked around at the rest of the soldiers.
Twenty or so were wearing black masks and all of them had special weapons.
"Loyinjun." He said after a realization.
The masked men did not respond but the one Muyang was looking at blinked, confirming his assumption.
These were the secret guards of the Long emperor, the ones who carried out his secret missions. Their faces were only known to the emperor and no one else. You could be married to one of them and never know for the entirety of your life.
They were trained from childhood to serve and be loyal only to the emperor so whatever command they received, it would be almost impossible to stop them. They were highly skilled, well trained in many styles of fighting and they could wield almost any weapon they touched. Not many people had met them and they were spoken of in whispers as the emperor’s death squad. He was more than sure that they had been the first recipients of his wife’s strength and speed increment serums.
"I don’t know what your orders are but we went through a lot of trouble to rescue these innocent people. You cannot execute them without providing a proper explanation."
"We do not answer to you." The one who was on his knees with Muyang’s gun to his head said.
"I know who you answer to, and what you are here to do is a criminal act. Killing these women and children is not justifiable, even you must see that." He said.
"We have our orders and if you do not move, you will be buried in a mass grave along with them."
The man grabbed a hand of sand with the intention of flinging it in Muyang’s eyes as a distraction before taking him down.
Something suddenly exploded and it drew everyone’s attention. One of the watch towers had just exploded and collapsed. The women and children were scared, and some screamed while others whimpered like cold, frightened street dogs on a dark stormy night.
"That was a warning." A voice said, Chi Lian’s voice. "You with the sand, drop it and if any of you masked guys moves I will not be merciful. You will die without even leaving a single body part behind for your families to bury."
She was holding a gun in one hand and a projectile missile in another.
The few women next to her moved further away, as much as they could. She was either their savior or simply a lunatic.
