Chapter 614: Bringing the princess home

The festivities started in full swing with the arrival of the emperor. Only one member of the royal family was missing, the crown princess. Rumor had it that she was down with a contagious illness and she was being isolated at the moment.

Their was no official announcement made by the royal spokesperson however, and the rumors of said sickness were hearsay.

When Chi Rui and the princess arrived, they were welcomed with a standing ovation and other rituals followed.

Online, the netizens were discussing everything to do with the ceremony, and many wished that they could have been there in person to witness it.

[I wanted to see the hair combing ceremony, it’s too bad that it was done privately yesterday.]

[Did anyone notice that one of the princess’s friends made the groom eat a small chilli?]

[Hahaha, the groom was asked to guess the name of the princess’s childhood pet cat to get the keys and he said ’cat.’ So to him, every cat is called cat.]

[Wow, the couple looks very nice in these new outfits. They match each other perfectly.]

[I am looking forward to the banquet because I am very sure that it’s going to be impressive.]

[How much is the decor worth? How much money has gone into the ceremony?]

The emperor and empress were beaming with pride when the couple bowed before the parents and served them tea. Mama Chi was in tears, while papa Chi comforted her. Neither one of them could believe that a princess had married into a family with no roots like theirs.

If this was not a miracle, mama Chi did not know what one could call a miracle then.

The princess changed from the gown her grandmother made to the one Chi Lian and Ximeng designed and made.

"It is time for the couple to exchange their vows." The host announced.

The bride and groom faced each other and said their vows softly. The whole time, Rize was blushing.

"The bride is so shy, it’s amazing." Grandma An giggled. "Rize is normally very bold."

"You were like her at our wedding." Grandpa Wang whispered to her.

"You were also like her." Muyang whispered to Chi Lian.

"We did not recite vows to each other." She whispered back.

"Yes we did, we said vows before signing the documents, don’t you remember? Should we go back and sign new documents?"

She looked at her husband and lightly squeezed his arm. "Do you think that the civil affairs bureau is your home? You want to swing in and out as you wish. I was just teasing you, I remember our vows clearly."

Satisfied with her admission, Muyang smiled and looked at his son who was playing with his rubiks cube. His daughter was sleeping in his hrandmother’s arms. Rose was watching the ceremony calmly at madam An’s side. At her age, he thought that maybe she would be on her phone but the girl had perfect public etiquette. He thought to himself that his children were so well behaved.

Judgementally, he looked at the Jiang’s, the teenage boys were sneakily looking at their phones, secretly slapping or boxing each other. One of them looked around sneakily and stole a sip from his grandfather’s wine glass. The unlucky boy was caught by his mother who gave him a look that promised hell to pay later.

Chi Lian saw that as well and she giggled, weddings were full of all sorts of mischief.

The bride and groom went and changed and when they returned, the best part of the banquet officially opened.

It was an eight course affair meal prepared by chefs from the imperial kitchen and chefs from the royal kitchen. It consisted of auspicious and symbolic foods symbolizing different things according to their culture. For example, a fish course representing abundance, chicken and duck for peace and unity, a suckling pig for the bride’s purity. The desert dishes were plenty as well, some of them had been prepared by the big chef and her assistants in the phoenix bakery. Inclusive was the sweet lotus seed desert which represented the fertility of the bride. Mama Chi looked at that dish lovingly as if she could see a baby being formed in Rize’s belly tonight because of the dessert.

Drinks were available in plenty, alcoholic and non alcoholic. Chi Lian contributed to these by providing fruit wine from the system mall. Everyone at the banquet ate to their fill, satisfying themselves on high quality food prepared by experts.

[Look at that banquet, see all the food being served my God!!! Will they finish all that?]

[I have counted at least one hundred suckling pigs. Did they plan one pig per table?]

[I am begging someone to pack me a doggie bag.]

[LOL, doggie bags are used by restaurants when someone is taking food for a dog. Are you a dog?]

[We have many starving people in the empire but the emperor threw such a luxurious banquet for his daughter. I won’t say much.]

[With all this alcohol at the wedding the police should be outside to make sure no one drinks and drives.]

[Not even the third Prince had such a luxurious spread at his wedding, doesn’t the empress love his daughter too much?]

[Have you seen the announcement, all branches of the royal kitchen in every city will be giving out free food for two hours. So will every palace hotel and shelter. I will not be wasting time here, bye bye.]

[Has everyone seen the list of restaurants giving out free food to celebrate the royal wedding? They are up to twenty now.]

[Long live the emperor and empress, I got to taste some food from the royal kitchen today.]

While they ate, they were entertained by the Shu brothers, a surprising guest artist Allie Jean and Haena.

Initially, Chi Lian had planned to squeeze only phoenix artists on to the entertainment list with approval from the queen dowager but Qin Meng batted her eyelashes at her and coquettishly pleaded so Haena successfully squeezed her way on to the list of entertainers.

Chi Lian did not know it but Qin Meng thanked her lucky stars everyday for Du Moxi’s screw up. Perhaps the two women would have taken longer to meet if she had not been stupid. Ever since they met, good things had been happening at Glory entertainment and if she held on to Chi Lian’s golden thigh, the good times would never end.

Halfway through the banquet, a slide show was started, showing pictures of the couple from childhood to adulthood.

All of the bride’s pictures were beautiful and professionally taken while the groom’s pictures were random and funny. Mama Chi often chose the most ridiculous moments to take pictures of her children, like the picture of Chi Rui at two years old, squatting butt naked in front of a mud pond with a frog in his tiny hands which had many people laughing while he was very embarrassed.

After the slide show, the host called a few friends of the couple to give a speech, followed by a speech from the grand emperor and then one from grandpa Wang.

And just like that, all the main and necessary parts of the wedding ended and it was time for the groom to take his princess home.

Whether it was part of tradition or simply because it finally hit Rize that she was leaving her parents, the lovely bride broke into tears.
