Chapter 598: Grandmother curses up a storm

She did not go back to work and directly went home, to spend time with her children and eat a full meal.

She found a few surprising guests in the house like the elders and her brother Chi Zimo who was playing a shooting game with Rose in the living room on the large television screen.

The two were wearing virtual reality glasses, the newest product of the science park which was under trial and they were loudly shouting. The game they were playing was the one code created, the only product to come out of phoenix tech.

The old madam was in the kitchen, wrapping up her cooking while the old master braided Mei-Mei’s hair. Little Monk was brushing Smarty pants fur with a small brush on the side. It looked like Cat burglar and the huskies were waiting for their turn at this toddler grooming shop.

"I am home." she announced.

While her children were quick and eager to hug her, the two game players did not hear a single thing.

"You are early," the old master commented.

"I did not have much to do at the office." she answered. "It’s so good to see you grandfather, we have been waiting for you and grandmother to pay a visit to our new house."

"I like it, you kept the house child friendly instead of turning it into an extra large all white cold mechanical house. Have you ever been to the Go’s house, it looks exactly like what I have described. They said something about minimalism_, I barely understood most of what they said back then. It’s a good thing that you called me when you did by the way after the fire at the Rai family mansion, I cannot imagine what would have happened but that sly Yan Moon would have found a way to get the Rai’s where he wanted, he is a nasty fellow, nasty like those bad guys in the movies with yellow teeth." the old master was in a talkative good mood. He looked happier, healthier and freer, the cold town was working wonders.

"Grandfather, how is the park?" she asked.

"Everything is perfect, I am keeping a good eye on everything. But now that everyone knows who I am, the scientists are always chasing me around with their inventions in hopes of getting excess funds out of me. It never stops, I feel like a woman being courted by ambitious suitors who are making me all sorts of promises."

"Pffft!" Chi Lian tried to hold back a guffaw and failed so she allowed herself to laugh.

"Grandfather!" she laughed loudly.

"One of them even gave me flowers, he was different from the ones that chase me with papers or gadgets. I think I was flattered because he got two million out of me." The old master laughed along with Chi Lian.

"Ha-ha-ha-ha," Chi Lian increased the vigor of her laughter. "You and Muyang fall for flowers." she added.

"Tell him, how could he give out two million for flowers, Chi-Chi, your grandfather is so easy?" the old madam showed up and complained.

The old master scratched his ear and smiled, he looked partly shy and partly embarrassed.

"How are you dear, how was work?" The old madam moved on to another thing, I saw a few news vans outside when we arrived. They must be here to cover the fire, are your people here too?"

"Maybe, I do not get very involved in the news unless there is something to be banned. Usually Wenli runs everything by me before they go on air and I take out that which is not necessary. A fire here in the courts, one which is being called arson will definitely make it to the news. Something like this has never happened before after all." She shared her thoughts earnestly.

"Tsk,tsk, what kind of monster would try to burn down an entire family? Generations of people at once more over. What kind of enemity do they have with the Rai’s?" The old madam wiped a lone tear which escaped from her eye. She was close with the matriarch of the family who was in the hospital because her blood pressure had increased abruptly due to this event. The two elders had gone by the hospital to visit their friends and comfort them before coming here.

Chi Lian looked at the old master and attempted to communicate with her eyes, "Grandmother should know the truth." What if the Yan’s tricked her somehow because she was out of the loop.

The old master frowned and shrugged, he was not sure if he was reading Chi Lian’s unvoiced thoughts right but one thing he knew was that if his wife found out, she would share this information with the Rai’s . And it would not be just them, she would tell all of her close friends as well, she would add on to the list of the crimes, mobilize her women’s high tea society to boycott their businesses. By the time she was done, the Yan’s would be the social pariah’s of the emperor’s courts. At all functions they would become persona non grata and life for them here would be so uncomfortable. Knowing the Yan’s, they would not simply sit back and watch however, they would surely attempt to avenge these actions if his wife was successful.

"Grandmother stay away from anyone in the Yan family." Chi Lian burted.

The old master had not yet decided if he wanted to fill his wife in or not and he gave Chi Lian a questioning look.

"What do you mean dear?" The old madam asked.

Chi Lian had thought about it as she studied the facial expressions of the old master. He was reluctant it seemed, to share information about the fire with her but she had different videos of Yan Daya talking to different members of her family about the plans she had for the children and how much she loathed them.

"Grandmother, someone sent me this, watch and listen to it."

To prevent the children from listening, she gave the old madam earphones as well. The old master watched on very curiously because he wanted to know what his wife was looking at. When he saw a look of rage overcome her face, the clenched fists and she kicked the air, he knew it had to be something bad.

"That fuck....crazy...bitc... I am going to kill her."

"Grandmother!!!" Chi Lian leaped up and tried to cover the children’s ears as best as she could. While she could reach little Monk, Mei-Mei was far from her.

The old master that was nearer to Mei-Mei so he covered her ears.

Mei-Mei was puzzled, "Why was mummy jumping around like a frog and holding big brother’s head? Why had her ears been covered? Were they playing a new game? She clapped her hands and laughed.

"Grandmother said a bad word." Little Monk thought.

For two long minutes the old madam cursed some more, saying every "bad" word that came to her mind and using it to refer to Yan Daya.

The maids and the butler who overheard her were astonished. Was this the woman everyone said was one of the calmest, most elegant and soft spoken women in the empire?
