Chapter 597: You don’t matter

Chi Lian waited, wanting so badly to see Wen Li’s next move, would she put her pride aside and kneel or continue making that wronged face as if she was about to be deliberately humiliated.

Hunger must won over pride because Wen Li went down slowly, her exposed knees touched the green carpet in the dressing room and she did as Ximeng instructed. It would have been quite something to see if Ximeng, the boss and owner of this store could kneel down to ensure perfection of the dress and satisfaction of her client and yet a mere employee like Wen Li would not do it.

"I must say that this gives me some bit of satisfaction." T4 laughed.

"Me too." Chi Lian answered.

Wen Li was probably boiling over, if she could explode like a grenade at the moment, she probably would.

"It’s perfect," Ximeng declared as she rose up, try moving around and see if the long tail of the dress does not bother you. If it does, we can make quick immediate alterations and the dress will be delivered to you tomorrow morning."

Chi Lian had been did as Ximeng said, and she moved around slowly as was expected at the awards. There would not be much navigation but she did notice that the night would be ended with an optional dance by the attendees, a waltz. Muyang liked any kind of dancing that brought her body closer to his, and he also enjoyed showing her off, letting others glimpse at her beauty which they would never touch. It was a given that he would not skip out on the dance so she needed to make sure that the tail was not too long that it would end up being trampled on or becoming a nuisance.

"Come here," she held Ximeng’s hand and positioned them as a couple would be standing during this dance. "If I can dance comfortably then no alterations will be necessary."

"Move." Ximeng told Wenli. Being taller than Chi Lian, she took the lead, as they moved around for a minute. "We should trim off four inches." she said.

They separated and Chi Lian went inside the dressing room and changed into the dress she had been wearing earlier.

When she came out, the manager another employee and Wen Li who had been forced into serving Chi Lian came forward with new jackets, coats and skirts which were child sized. The biggest sizes suited a teenage girl, all of them were the colors the store had on record as Rose’s favorite and most suitable colors.

"New collection." Ximeng told her while she worked on the dress from right there. She had a large pair of scissors and she was cutting off the unnecessary inches.

"Boss, Chi, these will all look good on the little misses in autumn, we are still weeks away from the season but other madams have already booked eighty percent of our stock. We kept these aside for you." the manager explained.

Chi Lian looked through the clothes and picked all those which she found stylish and cute. With a big smile, the manager led the employees away to pack up all she had picked out.

"You know who she is, right?" She asked Ximeng. "You have done a background check on me so you definitely know who she is." Chi Lian spoke as if she was quite certain of what she was speaking of.

Anybody that dug deep into her family background or hers, would find out that she and Wen Li were cousins.

Ximeng lost all pretense, she shrugged and looked at Chi Lian apathetically. "That’s why I hired her when she came to me desperately, the best way to completely finish off your enemy is to have them get down on their knees and serve you. Why else would I single her out specifically to tend to the bottom of your dress? She looked as if I making her swallow sharp nails." Ximeng laughed, finding the entire scenario quite funny. "Pictures of us together have appeared in tabloids and you are the face of Ctar luxury, how could she not know that you would show up here when she begged me for a job? I wanted to get into her mind and she what she was up to. Anyway, now that you have seen her, what do you think? Is it time for me to fire her? I suddenly find the entertainment I was expecting boring."

"I don’t care, as long as she does not ever bother me again, I do not have much patience or tolerance for her anymore. But you should watch your back, unless she has found God, she will attempt to backstab you should the right opportunity present itself. Wen Li is a a girl that grew up with nice things, she will never stop wanting them. But, now that I think about it, let her stay on and keep an eye on her, you never know what good luck will come to find me because of her presence." Chi Lian thought about it, if anybody was seeking for a way to get to her they might approach Wen Li. It was only logical to assume that the company knew about her close working relationship with the emperor, which meant that they would at one point try to get rid of her. They hid in the shadows, using others to do their dirty work so they would find someone that loathed her, and use that individual somehow. Wen Li, was one such individual. "I am leaving now, see you around."

"Send me new designs." Ximeng reminded her.

"Next week." she replied as she walked out of the store. Three employees that were all carrying a bag in each hand followed her.

Spider was standing outside, leaning against the car and he opened the door for her while the employees put the shopping bags in the trunk.

Someone knocked on the window just before they could set off and Chi Lian saw Wen Li standing outside, pinching her fingers nervously.

"Should I get rid of her?" Spider asked her.

"No, I want to hear what she has to say." Chi Lian opened the car door but she did not allow Wen Li to enter inside. "Talk from where you are."

"I_, I, don’t want to be fired." she blurted out.

"Did anyone fire you?" Chi Lian retorted.

"No, but she is your friend...." she broke off and bit her lip. "I need this job, I have nothing left and if you ask her to fire me.."

"Wen Li," Chi Lian stopped her by calling her name, "You," she paused and looked into her eyes from below, "You give yourself too much importance in my life, newsflash you don’t matter to me anymore. You, your wicked mother, grandmother, father the entire Li family. We are not related, we are two strangers who are living completely different lives now. You are wasting time here, your manager does not appear to be too happy at the fact that you are dawdling around instead of working."

Wen Li looked back and indeed saw the manager standing in the doorway of the store, frowning in her direction.

Chi Lian shut the car door and Spider drove off.
