Chapter 589: The fire which brought out everyone.

The next day, Chi Lian woke up later than usual after a hot and racy night as Muyang had passionately called it. When she was jogging through the park, she found a group of older women gathered together, speaking in hushed tones.

Curiously, she went closer, got down on one knee and pretended that she was tying her shoelaces. Her actual goal in reality was to eavesdrop on the women. The seriousness on their faces indicated that something really serious had happened.

"I can’t believe it, they are so lucky that nobody died."

"Do they know who did it?"

"The police is investigating the case and the entire courts smell like smoke, I can’t believe something horrible happened in our precious courts."

She got up and stretched her arms, then, she moved closer to the women and smiled, "Goodmorning madams." she greeted them politely.

Immediately, they recognized her, she was the Jun family’s daughter-in-law who owned Phoenix media and was rumored to be the next head of the high tea women’s society club.

"The little bride of Jun Muyang, you look so healthy and strong." one of the women touched Chi Lian’s hands and nodded approvingly.

’How exactly am I little?" Chi Lian asked herself.

"Even when she is jogging she looks stylish and pretty, where did you buy your exercise outfit?"

"Madams," Chi Lian said and she brought her head closer, emulating the looks that had been on their faces. "What were you all discussing earlier? What happened in the courts?"

"You have not heard?" one of the women asked, looking very surprised.

"No." she answered.

"There was a fire at the Rai family house last night, they were lucky that nobody died. Some passers by saw the smoke and alerted the members of the family, they also called the police and the fire department immediately."

"Oh my God!" Chi Lian placed her hand over her mouth, looking very surprised.

"I know, right, such a thing has never happened before here, it’s so unbelievable." another woman added.

"Do they know what caused the fire?" she asked them.

"We don’t know anything about that yet." the one who told her about the fire replied.

Having got the answers to her questions, Chi Lian bowed politely and excused herself, "Madams, I have to go now, I wish you all a pleasant day."

"Oh, bye bye." they replied randomly and waved as she left.

"Such a well behaved girl."

"And hardworking."

"I heard she is also individually wealthy."

"From a good family moreover, one which will be related to royalty in a few days to come."

She could hear bits of their last conversation as she jogged steadily, moving away from them. As soon as she found some privacy, she went to another one of her sources for answers.

"T4, what happened? Why have I heard nothing about the fire?"

"You woke up not long ago and you told me to always wait until you had your first sip of morning coffee before I share anything with you provided that it was not urgent. Nobody died in the fire so my judgement is that it’s not urgent."

"So, what happened?" She was holding a phone on her ear just in case anybody passed by the pavilion where she was resting.

"Who else, the Yan’s found out that a daughter of the Rai family is the one being groomed to be the next crown princess so they struck first. I guess they do not know which specific daughter because if they did, they would have killed that one directly. That Yan Moon is a sly man, he suggested that they kill off the entire family to ease things."

"You can’t an entire family unless they have gathered in one place at the same time. Was there a reason for the Rai family to gather?"

"The patriarch made eighty yesterday and the family gathered to celebrate. Even the children who were abroad returned for the big private party. As soon as I noticed the smoke I alerted Meili who called the police. I also alerted the soldiers."

She left the pavilion because a few teenagers approached it and increased her speed, running in the direction of the house of the Rai family. She wanted to see for herself the extent of the damage.

"Is this peep star worthy news?" T4 asked her.

"I am not sure, all I see is a tragedy that could have been great if quick reaction had not been taken. I really think that even though the Yan’s are being used and monitored to connect the dots in this conspiracy they should be eliminated. Most of them have no conscience and everyday they get worse and worse. To kill an entire family, old and young, including babies in a fire!!! that’s wrong, and plain evil."

How could someone murder innocent people without thinking twice? To save lives, the Yans needed to be eliminated, and quickly.

When she arrived that the home of the Rai family, it was of no surprise to her that a crowd was gathered outside the gates. Fire fighters were still going through the wreckage of the mansion which was partially ruined.

"Did you hear that, they said it’s arson." Someone in the crowd whispered.

"Wow, an arson in the emperor’s courts!!! This is going to be everywhere. I hope it does not affect the value of our properties."

"Aren’t you too insensitive?" Another person asked. "They have just gone through a tragedy, be kind."

"I am just saying the truth, we live in the most prestigious area in the empire. Things like theft, arson and other crimes do not happen here. The emperor’s courts is the perfect living area and it should stay that way."

Chi Lian tuned out that individual and she glued her eyes on the most unlikely individuals in the crowd, watching the Rai’s go through their property to see what could be salvaged.

The Yan’s, the perpetrators behind this fire were shamelessly watching and shaking their heads with shocked and sympathetic looks on their faces. She could hear them comment every once in a while about what a great tragedy this was. The Yan’s present at the scene were Yan Daya, Yan Feng and Yan Moon, the master planner.

When a member of the Rain family briefly stepped out of the gate and put a bag in the car, they approached him.

She recognized him as Rai Song, one of the most outstanding members of this family. He was a pianist, an excellent one that had won three international awards in large competitions. Currently Rai Song’s arm was bandaged all the way to his fingers. It seemed, the poor young man had been injured in the fire.

To her greatest surprise, Yan Feng tapped Rai Song’s shoulder and gave him a hug.

Yan Daya said, "Everything will be okay brother Song, things can be replaced, all that matters are your lives."

"Thank you." Rai Song replied and he returned to the mansion.

Angry, Chi Lian longed to jump up, point accusing fingers and shout at the top of her lungs that the Yan’s were the perpetrators. "Have they no shame?" She asked T4. "Are they here to mock, rejoice, or determine the reason as to why their plan failed?"

"I will go with all three." T4 replied. " You know, since the Yan’s are needed to make connections on the mysterious company and those involved in the conspiracy we can’t eliminate them at the moment but rather than go around with tied hands we could give them trouble."
