Chapter 576: Time to harvest
The next day, while Muyang was off to work with the breakfast prepared by his wife, an afternoon snack and a large serving of assorted fruits, Chi Lian took her own tour of the house. It was as lovely and exceptional as she desired.
She had asked for a swimming pool, a mini basketball court for her son, a basement for herself and a movie room.
The backyard had a well constructed barn for the animals which was spacious in case she decided to bring in more animals, the farmland which the emperor had gifted her with was flourishing with wheat, corn and rice which were all ripe and ready for harvesting. There was a pond of water that housed beautiful fish of koi and other breeds. Above the pond was a small stone bridge which led to the flower gardens.
The gardens had been planted with a variety of different flowers and because of the season, they were flourishing, their beautiful petals waving at the slightest breeze of wind which passed by. Some had overpowering scents which beckoned any passerby to stop and sniff the air.
She even saw the crepe myrtle trees which Muyang talked about. They were still short and young, yet to grow and fill the large space with their beauty. For now, the set of swings were standing alone. Closer to them was a family set of brown wicker tables and chairs which were sheltered under an umbrella stand.
She stretched her arms and laughed as she looked up at the blue sky. "Thank you." She shouted. She then turned around, taking the same path which had led her out here.
"Woof woof!" she bumped into Blackguard and his little family going over the bridge and he paused and barked at her.
"Woof woof to you Blackguard." she replied playfully. "Are you exercising or taking a walk?"
"Woof." one bark for yes.
"Exercise it is, good to you Sir Blackguard." Chi Lian tipped off her imaginary hat to the dog and she went on her way. If she continued walking, she would have to cover around four more acres of planted land which she did not intend to do at the moment. But the crops needed to be harvested and delivered to the emperor immediately. Most of the seed varieties were his and he had simply asked her to plant or attempt to improve them. Who better to help in farm work than her family?
So, she contacted her parents and asked them to come over and help. Then she called her friends too, she would be providing lunch and it could be a mini house warming of sorts.
She put her hands on her waist and looked out at the glowing fields, it was either she hired actual workers or did this another way. "What can I use T4, for harvesting? Can those harvesters from the farm work?"
"Oh yes." T4 replied and on her virtual screen, different equipment appeared. "Pick what you need, there is no one around you right now."
She picked five harvesting machines, all medium sized because the large ones would raise an alarm. She could explain the smaller ones away easily but not big ones.
"T4, I always see drones being used on farms, give me two as well." she added.
"They are not used in harvesting." the system pet replied, "But this system will not reject points, thank you for shopping with us." The drones were sent efficiently to her virtual storage before she could change her mind.
As the harvesting machines set to work, she sent a message to the emperor asking for his people to come and pick up the harvest.
Then, she busied herself using her super speed and strength to harvest corn as she waited for the rest of her family. One minute in, she was joined by Blackguard and some of the other pets that were not really helpful because they were just playing around.
Ignoring them, she asked T4 to turn on some music while she worked and ate gummy bears. Along the way, a few of the maids came and joined in, even the butler and Feng Wu who had moved in because the animals were his responsibility.
The children and their guards as well as other guards who were on duty at the moment also joined her. It was almost like a small community affair and when her family arrived, it became louder and livelier.
She laughed when her parents first arrived because one, her mother was dressed in overalls and a large hat and two, her father was wearing shorts. Nobody, at least, not as far as she could recall had ever seen papa Chi in shorts. They certainly made quite the appearance.
"You should have told us about this yesterday, we would have shown up so early in the morning." her mother said.
Chi Lian turned her head over and gave a mother a curious look, "Don’t you all have work today?" she asked.
"Nothing serious that can’t wait," her mother responded. "And this is more important because the seeds belong to the emperor. Will you be keeping anything?"
"Why would she keep seeds that belong to the emperor?" Papa Chi passed by and he asked his wife. "Don’t put ideas in her head."
Mama Chi was not reconciled to her husband’s last statement, feeling as if she was being accused of something. "When did I ever put ideas in here head?’ she asked her husband with her hands on her waist now. "I..." she stopped talking and her eyes widened, and she rushed off while saying, "Manchu, put down that bucket of corn, have you forgotten your special condition?"
Papa Chi looked helplessly at Chi Lian and he sighed, "There your mother goes again, shouting the secret out loudly, at this rate everyone is going to find out about Manchu’s special condition. Your mother really doesn’t listen to me at all."
Chi Lian chuckled at the dynamic between the overly loved wife and the wife spoiling husband.
"Chi-Chi, have I congratulated you and your husband on moving in to a new house yet?" he asked her softly.
"No dad, I was beginning to think that you had not noticed." she responded teasingly. "What do you think?"
Papa Chi looked back at the house from a distance and he smiled proudly, "It’s beautiful_, no magnificent, my son-in-law has really outdone himself. Both of you, I know you are about to mention your own contributions." he laughed softly after amending his statement because he knew how much his daughter loved receiving credit for things she had contributed to.
"But you know," he continued, "Our house is now empty because all the animals are gone and some of the staff, even old tiger packed his bags." he sighed. "I am beginning to wish that their was a way to speed up Manchu’s pregnancy so that the house could be filled with noise as quickly as possible."
"I left behind one of Pearl’s kittens for you." Chi Lian replied, "You can also adopt more pets if you want little animals around the house."
"Maybe a small dog." Papa Chi said and he shrugged, "They are cuddly and make good companions on walks. I miss the days when you were all younger and we would go on those walks together."
It seemed to her like he had been thinking about getting a pet for a while now and he kind of looked lonely.
"Father_" she called and held his arm, looking at him with a soft look on her face. "Should I just move back home and live with you forever?"
She felt a sudden slap on her back and she knew that her mother had heard her words which were a joke. "Mother," she whined.
"Are you crazy? Why would you move out of your very nice house with a very nice husband to move back home? Aren’t I enough to keep your father company? And he claimed that I was putting ideas in your head, I have been vindicated." her mother gave them both a look that quite clearly warned them to get their minds on right.
