Chapter 574: On raising a teenager

And so it was that on this day that five cars drove up to a house with a thick hedges around the fence and a brown wood gate at the entrance of the compound itself. There was a trail of short purple flowers which was planted on both sides of the path which led to the gate that swung open automatically when the cars arrived. They had not gone with iron or steel fences like most people in the courts did because she wanted her house to have a vintage feel. Chi Lian was already in love with the house before even making it inside because she and T4 had worked hard on the design. Muyang changed a few things as well and this house was now a combination of both what she and her husband envisioned their future home to be. She was anticipating seeing this house in the full view of the beautiful bright light tomorrow.

Straight tall lamps that were curved at the top lit the drive way as the cars drove up to the three story mansion which was well lit in the inside and the outside as well. At first glance in the night, Chi Lian could make out the mermaid fountain whose design she stole or copied from the Smith house. She was hoping to see more but the children were antsy to get out of the car and she let them out as soon as the cars parked in front of the steps leading up to the magnificent brown colored house.

"Be careful." she called out to Mei-Mei who was skipping towards Black guard and their two huskies that were running towards them.

Even their pets had already moved in it seemed. Odds were, the cows and horses too had moved in already. Her parents backyard was probably empty right now with all the animals gone.

She was helped out of the car by Muyang who held her hand and led her up the six steps which led to the door that was opened by a familiar looking butler. He was the butler from his town house, even the nanny standing next to him was nanny Fang.

All the staff members were lined up orderly to welcome the owners of the house home.

"Welcome home, master and madam." the butler was the first to say.

"Welcome home." the other staff members bowed.

"Thank you butler, nanny Fang." Chi Lian mentioned those she knew and she smiled gently at them while Muyang nodded.

"Mummy doggie." Mei-Mei came into the house holding on to Black guard’s neck. Chi Lian knew that her daughter was probably looking for an opportunity to climb on the dog’s back but she was getting bigger and soon, she would not be able to sit on it.

"Yes, nice doggie." Chi Lian answered. "Come here," While Mei-Mei walked over, Blackguard squeezed in and got a head rub from Chi Lian.

"Little miss, little master." Nanny Fang reached out to the children with trembling hands and she embraced them. "Young master, the little master looks exactly like you."

"Even his mannerisms." Chi Lian chimed in with a comment. "This must take you back to Muyang’s childhood days."

"Yes madam" Nanny Fang concurred, "It brings back such fond memories."

"And you can all share them later let’s get settled in right now, it’s getting late and the children have not had dinner. We don’t have much to unpack so we can just bathe, eat and find something to do before going to bed." He broke off the conversation between his wife and nanny Fang because if he didn’t, she would probably hunt for old picture albums or start telling stories about his childhood days.

"Auntie, where is my room?" Rose asked. She was practically shaking in her shoes with excitement. In such a large house, her bedroom was bound to be big and lovely.

"We will show you," Chi Lian said and she took Muyang’s hands so that they could personally show the girl her new bedroom. As the parents or guardians to Rose, they had to treat her as they treated their own children.

Qi Qing and nanny Fang followed behind the couple while the butler led them to miss Rose’s room as she was called in the Jun house. At times, it was lady Rose, because she liked to emulate Chi Lian.

Her room was painted yellow, which Rose had said was her favorite color. It was big and spacious, with a balcony and a separate area for studying with a computer and a desk. The closet was fully stocked with the latest clothes and shoes thanks to grandma Weili.

On the bed were five teddy bears which were the only thing personally picked out by Rose, two adult teddy bears and three young ones. It was a family, which showed that Rose had accepted them.

"Auntie, I love it." Rose squealed happily. "I have never had a room like this before." Rose lived like the daughter of a maid when she was in the palace with her birth mother. Things like this, were not for her back then.

"No boys up here, ever." Muyang mumbled.

"Uncle Jun!" Rose was exasperated.

"Hubby." Chi Lian was equally taken aback by her husband’s words. "She is still young, why would she have a male friend up here."

"I don’t know, Yichen said_"

"Yichen is not even a father, what does he know?" Chi Lian interfered with what Muyang intended to say. "Rose, your uncle is just overly protective. If you have any boy friends....." Suddenly she did not know what to say either so she stopped talking. She had never raised an almost teenager before, should she tell her not to invite over friends of the opposite sex any where in the house at all? Chi Lian always imagined herself as the cool mum but it was suddenly hitting her that maybe she was not as cool as she thought after all.

"Oh boy," Nanny Fang said and she laughed at them both while Rose hid her face behind her palms because her aunt and uncle were embarrassing her. "Madam, young master, why don’t we go and see the bedrooms of the little ones."

"Yes," Chi Lian replied quickly.

"Yes," Muyang tagged on to her yes eagerly.

The two walked away from Rose’s bedroom as if their feet were on fire and needed urgent cooling.

"Why would you bring that up?" she whispered to him while they toured the twins bedroom. When the children grew up, they would be separated but for now, they could share a bedroom.

"Yichen said we have to be stricter with teenage girls and lay down the rules early on. She is friendly with two boys from the Jiang family, do you know how troublesome they are?" he answered.

"Cherry’s family?" Chi Lian asked.

"Mmm, grandma introduced her to them because she wanted her to make friends." he informed her.

"But we know the Jiang’s isn’t that a good thing?" she asked.

"I don’t know," Muyang shrugged, he looked slightly irritated, as if he had met a problem that he suddenly could not solve. "How did your mother do it? Did you ever have any male friends over at the house?"

Chi Lian looked at the wall quietly and thought back to the way mama Chi handled things. "Never." she answered. As far as she could tell such an incident had never come up.

"Good, we will do things the same way with Rose and Mei-Mei, no boys ever in the house." he declared confidently. He even smiled and his aura was restored, problem solved, his body language portrayed.

"Why were we so worked up about this?" Chi Lian laughed and sked in disbelief.

"I know, right, we had the answer all along and it was so simple." Muyang responded.

"We are awesome parents, right?" She aske him.

Nanny Fang and the butler looked at the two parents who were in agreement and patting themselves on the backs for a job well done and they shook their heads. Did they think raising teenagers was that simple?
