Chapter 572: Dare to deny

"But of course grandfather, how could we leave your lovely bestfriend behind. When I left, he was sleeping in the apartment, I am afraid to allow him move around on his own now. I don’t want another troubled incident." she replied, referring to the cat roasting incident.

"Yeah, the cat roasting incident." the old master said with wonder and a sigh. "It still shocks me to my very core up to now how a human being could do something so sadistic and inhumane."

"It goes to show you that there are skeletons in the closets of all fancy mansions. How could they teach that to a five year old child? Every time I see their matriarch in the women’s high tea society meeting I get this urge to throw her out. If she was not held in high esteem by many other women I would do it." the old madam added her own complaint unhappily.

"Speaking of the high tea society grandma did the ladies make a decision on the road construction project?"

The old madam nodded and replied, "Yes, we are going to do it but they want the roads to be named after themselves. Like madam Go wants the road to be named Go Yuwan road after herself. They want a whole press conference with pictures and live media coverage when the road has been finished."

"Wow!" Wenli muttered judgmentally. Were they seeking to do charity or simply show off.

"I know it’s a bit much but when you consider the larger picture the people in those communities will be better off with good roads at the end of the day so what’s a little photo op in comparison to that." the old madam explained. "I have already picked our first project, it’s in the Northern F city. They have some of the poorest areas and most hunger ravaged towns of the empire because of the harsh weather and limited resources. The royal family does charity and helps as much as it can but that’s never enough. Maybe Muyang was right when he said what they need more is a fast train that connects them to the more developed cities."

Chi Lian pulled little monk away from his small chair and desk and sat him down on the carpet next to herself and Mei-Mei as she gave her opinion on the old madam’s words. "That’s true, the roads should connect them to places where they can do business, access good schools, sells their products if they farm or raise animals. Should we change it from a road to a fast train, like a speed bullet train. The women’s society will make a more lasting impact this way."

"That will require billions in funding." Wenli said from the side.

"Mmm," Chi Lian nodded. She took a new pair of soft velvet shoes from the medium sized bag she had come to the lab with and put them on little monk’s feet. "They don’t fit." she mumbled. "How is your foot growing so fast?"

"He is already two inches taller than Mei-Mei." the old master commented. "He will be as tall as me when he grows up."

"How tall are you grandpa?" she asked.

"I am precisely one hundred eighty three centimeters tall."

"He is lying, it’s one hundred eighty two, that extra one inch comes from his shoes. Don’t let the old man deceive you." The old madam threw a challenging look at her husband. ’Dare to deny and I will measure you right now.’ she conveyed with her eyes.

"Wow, grandfather you are so tall." Chi Lian still praised the old master. "I hope my Mengze will be that that tall." She had the children try on different shoes until she was satisfied. Mei-Mei refused to take off the pretty pink shoes with a strap and flowers. She started walking around, showing off her new shoes. Chi Lian could already what her daughter would be doing at school every time she got a new dress or shoes.

"What are you going to do with the rest that don’t fit? They look like really expensive shoes" the old madam commented. Of the six pairs of shoes, one pair from Mei-Mei’s bunch did not fit and two from little monk were also ill fitting. She thought it would be a shame for the shoes to be abandoned.

"I will give them out, maybe to Manchu." she replied.

"Are they having a boy or girl?" the old master asked.

"I don’t know, but no one cares about the gender as long it’s a healthy baby." she parroted her brother’s exact words back to the old madam.

The door was opened and Zhangye poked his head inside with a delivery of food. "Welcome back boss." he said to Chi Lian. "Somebody is looking for you, a professor Chao."

"Send him in." she replied as she unboxed the meal which had been delivered from home. "Grandmother," she paused, "Am I part of this or am I encroaching on your meal?"

"The biggest container is yours, immediately when you told me Muyang left early I figured that you had not yet eaten. How can I watch you starve?"

"Thank you grandmother, you are the best." she replied coquettishly and she dug into the meal as she waited for professor Chao. Mei-Mei the little foodie would not be left behind and mother and daughter embarked on a journey of sharing fried wontons. Little monk ate only three and he was finished, returning to studying his new shoes.

When professor Chao was finally brought over, she had eaten half of the wontons and she was helping herself to fresh squeezed orange juice from the canteen with oranges picked from the park directly.

Professor Chao was the one who had successfully researched the artificial blood with some help from her of course. She had given him a few papers from the research section of the mall. He was an old man in his late seventies and this would be the greatest accomplishment of his life. She knew that he was excited and desperate to let the world know about his great accomplishment.

"CEO," he bowed slightly before taking a seat.

"Um," she put down her chopsticks briefly and wiped her lips. "Professor Chao, congratulations on finally meeting all the requirements of launching artificial blood across the world. You have made our empire and our scientic park proud."

Professor Chao beamed with happiness and he said, "I could not have done it without you CEO."

"Damn straight." T4 said in Chi Lian’s mind.

"You are picking up all sorts of language lately." she said.

"I am learning from my owner." he replied.

Lately the system pet was so perky and excited because there was just one level left and he could fill up his reserve energy. All that would be left was for Chi Lian to die of old age and he would unbind from her and return to his world. If anybody wanted the scandal of Rize’s dress to become bigger, it was T4.

Turning all her attention to professor Chao, Chi Lian smiled and asked him, "Are you ready to face the press and introduce our rejuvenation blood to the world?" Calling it artificial blood was too dry, bear had suggested that they give it a better name.

"I am so nervous, I have never addressed the press before." he replied.

"Just relax, Wenli is here to take you through everything. She also has your monetary supplement of five million which I promised every successful researcher that comes out of my lab."

Professor Chao bowed his head lower extremely gratefully and he grabbed Chi Lian’s hand. "CEO, thank you so much." he said in a teary voice. "I am staying on and taking on a new project, I will never leave pear scientific park."
