Chapter 57: Rescue mission[2]

The helicopters were being sent in as a distraction measure. As soon as the guards protecting the fortress were distracted, the soldiers on the ground would move in sharply and secure Doctor Tang Siming and his family first.

Orders were to take down whatever stood in their way using any means necessary.

Three helicopters flew over the fortress while shining very bright lights and a loud voice on a megaphone kept ordering the criminals to surrender. The commotion was so loud that the guard dogs in the fortress barked endlessly.

Thanks to this, the guards were caught unawares which allowed Chi Lian and the soldiers to sneak in without detection.

"Follow me." Chi Lian motioned to them.

Carefully, they made their way deeper into the tunnels. Suddenly, Chi Lian stopped and held up her hand.

She pointed down and the soldiers noticed that the floor they were about to step on was booby trapped. Carefully, using her knife, she cut the wire and they moved forward.

The closer they got to the area where Tang Siming was being held, the more obstacles they encountered. They had to put on masks as well because poisonous gas was released before they could get to the door.

Thanks to T4 and her drones, they evaded all the traps.

However, as soon as they got to the gated door directly leading to the door, shots were fired.

"Behind us." Chi Lian shouted.

The captain and his men fired back and took out three opponents. Still, unfortunately, one soldier was shot in the thigh.

The captain turned back to check on the bleeding soldier. How he longed to rip apart the throat of the shooter.

"Blow the gate up, I will help him." Chi Lian squatted down to treat the wound. As long as the bleeding was stopped, the soldier could be saved.

The captain and his men used controlled explosives to blow up the gate and pushed it open forcefully.

Inside the room, Tang Siming, his wife and child were huddled together fearfully.

"We have got him, I repeat, we have got Doctor Tang Siming." announced into his radio.

"Evacuate him at once." a voice commanded him through the radio.

"Yes sir." the captain nodded.

The Tang family was surrounded by soldiers and guided out of the room amidst tears of relief.

"What about the other prisoners?" Doctor Tang asked.

He was not the only one who needed saving. While he was glad to be rescued, he was not willing to ignore the plight of other weak individuals.

"Our main priority is to get you and your family out. As soon as we get you on a helicopter, we can rescue the others." the captain assured him.

The empire would not abandon its citizens.

Swiftly, they were taken out along with the injured soldier and placed in the nearest helicopter.

"Lets find the others." the captain told Chi Lian.

She led the way to the main labs in the fortress and what they found inside broke their hearts immensely. It was truly outrageous what lengths some human beings would go to to make money.

The trafficked captives were dirty, starving and stinking. They were held in tiny cages like prison cells. Some of the victims were young children, not even ten years old.

Dead bodies were rotting away in an isolated cell in the corner. The tables in the room were filled with blood and guts.

Some people were hooked up to IV bags on different beds but they appeared to be losing life really quickly.

"These lunatics, how dare they!" one of the soldiers expressed anger by kicking a bed.

The captain grabbed his shoulder and asked him to calm down. Everybody was angry but now was not the time. "There are about fifty people here, we don’t have enough space on the remaining two helicopters for them all."

"They have cars somewhere on this mountain, if we can find them, we can drive them to the nearest police station." Chi Lian knew this because she had seen the cars come and go.

"Let me send some men to find the cars."

"Wait," she stopped him. "Something is off, observe the victims properly."

The captain carefully looked at the people in the cells. They were yet to let them out. So far, they had calmed them and promised to get them out.

"Some of the prisoners look healthy, two or thee men are looking at me maliciously."

"Exactly, I think some of them are not victims. I have been wondering where the rest of the guards we did not incapacitate disappeared off to."

The captain sneered and raised his weapon however Chi Lian stopped him.

"Those men must be armed as well, one wrong move and the victims die."

"So what do you suggest we do."

"Let us allow them to come out of the cage in a single organized line. They should exit the door one at a time. We can pull out anyone suspicious."

"Hmm.." the captain placed his hand on his chin and considered her idea.

He called his men and communicated their suspicions. Then the captives were told to come out of the cage in a single line with their hands up.

"Why are you doing to us, we are the victims here?" one of the female captives complained.

"Its for your own protection." a soldier told her.

"I wont do it, I refuse." she screamed.

"Pull her out." the captain ordered.

Because she was close to the entrance of the cell, the soldiers easily reached in and pulled her out.

One by one the victims stepped out and were separated into two different groups. One group was forced to stay behind.

"Why are you separating us?" the woman asked anxiously. "Why do they get to leave while we stay

behind."

"We told you, Its for your own protection." the captain repeated.

"No, screw this." a man from that same group screamed and pulled one of those who were allowed to leave back. He pulled out a knife and placed it at the victims throat. "If we cant leave nobody leaves. all of you , grab one of them." He ordered.

It was plainly obvious that they were separating captives from suspected criminals.

Suddenly, the situation was chaotic and tense. The innocent captives who had been grabbed were crying while those who were not grabbed made a run for it.

The soldiers pointed their guns at the criminals but could not shoot because the risk was substantial.

"Hey, Mr. man, let the woman go and I will spare you." Chi Lian warned him arrogantly. She was not here as a soldier, she was finishing this her way.

She was exhausted and ready to go home. There was no way she was spending one more night in this place. Her Mei-Mei was missing her. She wanted to see Muyang and her family.

"Shut up." the man barked. He was spewing saliva in every direction with his bulged eyes darting back and off. "We are killers, one more person makes no difference."

"Yes," the other six agreed with him. They would not die alone, they would take all these righteous soldiers along with them.

"Your choice." Chi Lian pulled her smart gun out of her pocket and pointed at him.

"Lady, are you blind, we have guns as well." the man mocked. They had three guns on their side. If she shot, they would shoot back."

Chi Lian smirked, "Not like mine." she said and fired.

The six smart bullets quickly hit the criminals in the neck before they could realize what was happening and instantly they fell down.
