Chapter 565: In what capacity?
Chapter 565: In what capacity?
After a brief talk with Muyang, they did not return to the submarine because it was not her intention to expose it to the royals or the world yet. The submersible however had already been exposed so it was put on the yacht.
As Chi Lian and Muyang took off their diving suits and changed into their normal clothes, soldiers climbed onto the yacht. Others surrounded it with their weapons in hand, pointing outwards. A signal jammer was used by their leader who had yet to identify himself, all in an effort to prevent Chi Lian and Muyang from communicating with the outside world. Even the submersible was surrounded by soldiers for some reason. They stared intensely at it as if they were worried that it would disappear.
The couple said nothing, watching all this in silence as they prepared to have their dinner. Muyang even brought out an expensive wine from Italy and he asked the staff to set out one more place, preparing for the visitor that had yet to step on the yacht.
"Who do you suppose is coming for the negotiation?" Chi Lian asked him.
"I can’t say for sure, it could be a minister like Su who is one of the emperor’s most trusted men in government. It could be one of the prince’s, the grand emperor or the emperor himself. Either way, it will be someone with the power to negotiate. That’s why all communication has been cut off and there are more soldiers here than necessary."
One of the servers poured wine into their glasses and the couple slowly sipped it as they waited. It would have been a calm beautiful night on the sea but the helicopters which were hovering above the yacht made so much noise. Additionally, the outside view was covered by the body of the large coastguard ship.
"It’s a shame about that sunset." She commented with a wistful smile on her face, "I was hoping to end the livebroadcast with a beautiful picture of the sun fading away as we wave goodbye. I even prepared what would have been the perfect outfits for us, it would have been beautiful."
"We can always return, we have a submarine now after all. In fact we can do it every year as a family, take a vacation on the sea and search for treasure."
"I am in." She extended her glass to his and tapped it. "Cheers." She said with a smile. "Next time," she looked around and whispered, "we will not do any live broadcast. We can keep our treasure to ourselves."
Muyang chuckled and rubbed her hair gently. She looked like a cute little schemer that was plotting trouble. "Mm, it can be our little family secret."
She put a secretive smile on her face and she rubbed her stomach as she looked around.
He knew what was causing her to purse her lips that way; she was hungry and in twenty minutes maximum, she would lose the patience and eat whether the special guest had arrived or not.
"Hubby, when do you suppose this negotiator will be arriving? I am hungry. " She asked within ten seconds of this thought crossing Muyang’s mind.
’That was quicker than I expected.’ He thought.
"In two minutes," he looked at his watch as he replied.
She gave him a curious glance, wanting to know how sure he was about his information. What signs was he reading his cues from?
"You want to know how I know, right?" He asked her.
She nodded like an eager little child.
"The soldiers are slowly pulling away, and the helicopters are quiet. They have obviously landed which means whoever the special guest is, they have arrived."
He had barely finished explaining when the soldiers made way, stepping off the yacht and a new group of guards got on, royal guards.
"I was not expecting him." Muyang commented.
Chi Lian craned her head to see the ’him’ Muyang was referring to. It was obviously not the emperor because the royal butler would be here first. It was a prince obviously, but which prince specifically?
A guard pulled the chair which was opposite of the couple that was sitting together and someone finally took a seat. "Well, hello brother." He said as he removed his mask and hat.
’The prime minister!’ Was Chi Lian’s first thought. ’Why him?’ Was her second thought. ’Oh right, he is a prince too!’ Was her third thought just before she smiled at him.
"I did not think it would be you." Muyang replied. "In what capacity are you here, brother?" He overly enunciated the word brother. Was he here as a relative, a good friend, a prince or a politician?
"I bear all the titles Muyang, you know that I cannot abandon any and be just one. But if we are to be professional about it, I am here on behalf of my father, the emperor. I will tag on the nation and say I am also here on behalf of our empire after all, the two go hand in hand. What is good for the emperor is good for the empire."
The prime minister looked at the bottle of wine and one of his guards quickly poured some wine into the prepared empty glass for him. "As always, you have great taste in wine. We can eat as we talk, I was about to have my dinner when you and your wife decided to turn the empire upside down."
Chi Lian sighed and signalled one of the kitchen staff who was standing a distance away to bring the food.
"We are having chicken, hope you don’t mind." She told him.
The prime minister chuckled and smelled the wine in his glass with his eyes closed briefly. "I thought for sure it would be fish." He said.
"Why, is it because we are on the sea?" She asked.
"Isn’t that a given?" He reiterated.
"We like to surprise ourselves and others." Muyang took his wife’s hand and he replied. "First the sunken ship wreck filled with treasure and now our dinner. We are two peas in a pod."
"Should I be jealous?" The prime minister leaned forward and he smiled at them. Muyang had changed after his marriage, he had a new sense of humour. And he had not noticed but most of the times when he talked, he used ’we’ more often than ’I’. When asked what he was having for dinner he would say, we are having this or that. When asked if he had plans to meet up with friends, he would say, we might be busy tonight and proceed to add, let me check in with my wife first.
He found unfunny things funny and made corny dad jokes occasionally.
"That is entirely up to you." Muyang answered with a perfectly casual shrug. "We won’t care."
’There he goes with the we again.’The prime minister thought. "So who is negotiating on both of your behalf. I am assuming you two have spoken about this already and by now you know why these treasures cannot be all personally owned. For legal reasons and more, not because our royal family is greedy for it. Case in point is this, " he showed them an article on his phone that had been printed by the Indian Times titled, "Who rightfully owns the newly discovered treasure in the Chinese empire?"
"There is a ban on the release of anything related to it so far but a few pictures from the live broadcast had already circulated and are being studied locally and internationally for visible markings. Every nation that has ever used this route back then will want to claim something."
Having understood the situation already, Muyang sent the prime minister a text and said, "Check your phone, I have sent you a list of our demands."
