Chapter 532: Some people’s lives were changed

"Fifteen year old Middle school student secures millions in investment at the women in business conference."

"Madam Jing Fang was once a street hawker, the long road of Venus sweets."

"The queen dowager started her business out of love. All this and more from the women’s business conference."

"A humble princess Rize associating with the ordinary women of the empire."

Chi Lian had not expected so many surprises when she decided to hold the two day conference. While she had been aware of the queen dowager’s ownership of Ya Hanfu’s, Yi Bori’s unexpected presence at the conference was a true surprise. Her story was being told, repeated and shared over and over.

The press was quick to get all her information and the principal of her school was quick to speak on television praising her for being an upstanding student. Her classmates shared stories about her good deeds, they spoke about her with smiles on their faces.

Her parents who owned a small juice shop were also interviewed and they gladly spoke about the enterprising spirit of their daughter.

Chi Lian was quite certain that if Yi Bori’s reputation stayed the course, some of the best universities in the empire would be offering her scholarships when time came. Among those whose lives were changed by the conference, Yi Bori was at the top of the list.

At home, Chi Lian distributed the small green bottles of lemonade and asked everyone for an honest opinion.

"It’s sweet but it has a slight bitterness which suits my taste perfectly." The old madam said appreciatively. She liked things that were both sweet and sour and this small drink accomplished that feat perfectly. "But it’s too small, I downed it in two sips."

"I have to agree on the size." The old master added, "On one hand it’s a small bottle that can easily fit into my pocket but two sips is not worth it for me. I do think the taste is not bad, it’s suitable for us elderly people."

"It’s cheap." Chairman Jun commented. "The story about it being the brand of a fifteen year old girl who often gives out free drinks to the poor students at school is good. It sells, hell Jun corporation can sell millions of these by exploiting that story alone. We use the girl as an ambassador, get a few good looking students to run under the hot sun and then drink a few of these in an ad. But the meat is too little, she sells one bottle at two yuan because it’s a home made juice. There is not enough meat on the bone, the price and size of the bottle needs to go up in order for you to recoup your investment."

"Has she patented anything?" Muyang asked her.

Chi Lian rolled her eyes and tapped the table slowly, "Stop." She told them all. "I did not invest in her, the queen dowager did, together with madam Jing Fang. They want me to get on board so I wanted your opinions before I decide to do anything."

"Then do it," He Weili said, "You have a tea business that sells juice if one requests. What’s one more addition and the fact that you are not investing alone also means the risk is spread out."

"And the queen dowager herself has personally stamped the drink so it will sell itself." The old master added.

"And that Jing Fang too never gets herself in a losing business. In fact, she will rebrand the entire thing if she has to and change the taste to what suits her. She is a good businesswoman but a ruthless one." Chairman Jun shivered and rubbed his hands. The thought of madam Jing’s business tactics made his hair stand on end.

"She didn’t seem so bad." Chi Lian murmured.

"Ha!!" Chairman Jun said derisively, "Jing Fang is a shark, when you were looking for business men and women for shark tank I almost recommended her because like I am saying, she is a real walking, talking shark. But I do not want to be on the same stage with her so I didn’t mention it. Daughter-in-law, listen to me Jing Fang is similar to a tiger shark, it’s the garbage can of the sea because it swallows anything it comes across. It’s exactly like that woman because she swallows businesses easily especially the ones selling sweet things since she is in the business of candies. She does not like sharing her territory, a tiger shark is the same way which is why it has the reputation of being a man-eater and Jing Fang is secretly called the candy eater. If it’s sweet and it’s within her reach, she will eat it. Why do you think she calls herself sole owner of her business? She is greedy and she doesn’t like sharing. If there was a candy mafia Jing Fang would be the godmother."

Chi Lian had never seen her father-in-law so open with his opinions. He made no secret of the fact that she did not like Madam Jing Fang.

"Father-in-law, do you have some kind of past with madam Jing Fang? Did she steal a client or a business from you?"

"Ignore him." He Weili brushed her husband’s words away, "She stole or offered a better price for goldies chocolate, you know that brand. Your father-in-law is not the one who wanted that company by the way, it was Tao Ryuu, his friend, the current CEO of Tao foods so I don’t know why he is still harping on about it after so many years."

"It’s not like that" Chairman Jun denied. Did no one listen or understand his words.

"Yes it is." He Weili insisted.

"I have made up mind to invest but we will change a few things here and there starting with a few clauses that protect the young girl from being swallowed up by madam Jing Fang. Someone needs to protect the girl so I will do it since it’s my conference has led her on the path to madam Jing. Thinking about this issue from a business perspective it sounds like I have some good business partners. Madam Jing may be greedy but I looked into her and I did not find any lawsuits in her past. All the businesses she bought out were paid fully before she took over. I also doubt that she would try to screw over the queen dowager after all she is the one who is most invested in seeing Yi Bori thrive. Don’t be surprised if the royal family’s weibo page releases a statement tomorrow congratulating the girl or praising her." Chi Lian had her answer after listening to their opinions. She sent Wenli a message and asked her to go and represent her in the deal.

"Are the booths tomorrow open to the public?" Chairman Jun asked. "I would like to take a look after all, we at Jun corporation are always supporting the women."

"He is doing it for PR." He Weili said loudly. "Do you see how pretentious your father-in-law is? His words always have hidden meanings that I don’t trust them. This is why you all need to stay, how will we live on our own? Mmm, mother, Chi-Chi, let’s all just live together." He Weili held both the old madam and Chi Lian’s arms, trying to convince them to stay.

Muyang pulled Chi Lian’s arms away before she could melt like butter under heat because of his mother’s pitiful eyes. "Mother, you and father are a married couple. Couples should always enjoy time alone to rediscover their love."

"What?" He Weili rolled her eyes and sneered. "I should have given birth to a cone of ice cream instead of a son like you." She lamented extravagantly. "How can you leave your mother in this big house?" She held her head as if she would soon faint.

"You would have made a superb actress, it’s too bad you didn’t go down that road." Muyang commented. He was used to the women in his life acting like this from his grandmother to his daughter.

Chi Lian and the old madam were laughing, mother and son were just starting and it would be like this for the rest of the night.
