Chapter 531: The queen dowager’s secret business.
Jing Fang went on for one more hour, even answering a few questions from the audience before a video played on the screen. It showed all of her accomplishments, the rewards she had received and some of the people she helped along her way. A twenty minute break was allowed, hotel staff distributed drinks and some snacks before Rize returned and invited the queen dowager as the next speaker.
Press that was allowed to cover the conference zoomed in their cameras closer, wanting to get the faces of the attendees and the speakers closely.
"Um, since everyone here knows me I am sure that I do not have to introduce myself." the queen dowager smiled at the young women fondly despite not knowing them individually. "Let me start by saying how happy I am to see all of you. It’s good to see many hopeful faces around, your attendance of this conference means our empire will have a brighter future and It’s in excellent hands."
The women cheered for themselves, happy to receive the compliment as it was given.
"I know that many of you are wondering what the queen dowager is doing here. Some of you are thinking, ’ah, she is royalty, what could she possibly know about business? Her biggest challenge is probably picking which expensive jewelry to put in her hair."
A few women chuckled because indeed, they assumed the queen dowager had no struggles. She was royalty, wealth and a struggle free life went hand in hand with royalty.
"I am going to surprise you all today by telling you that I too am a business woman." she paused and took in the surprise in the room. "I own Ya hanfu."
Those with quick hands hurried to search for Ya hanfu and those who knew about that business were surprised. If the queen dowager owned this business then why didn’t she use her royal connections to promote it?
The mighty little peep star: [The queen dowager owns Ya Hanfu!! A fifty year old business which sells hand stitched hanfu’s. Who knew that the queen dowager was a secret excellent business woman?]
Chi Lian beat everyone to the news as she had already prepared it. It spread online so fast that within ten minutes millions of people had visited Ya Hanfu’s official website and bought all the stock they had on hand.
"I can see many of your hands moving swiftly." The queen dowager pointed at the attendees. "But don’t bother making orders, I had that feature temporarily disabled on our website because your overwhelming desire to purchase a hanfu that comes from the queen dowager’s company will give my employees sleepless nights. So, put your phones down and listen to my words of wisdom about the challenges I have faced and how I have overcome them."
She was very right about the many conference attendees who were attempting to buy hanfu’s and she put down the microphone, waiting until everyone’s eyes were on her before she could continue speaking.
"Many people will assume that I used my connections with royalty to boost the sales of Ya hanfu but they are all wrong. It’s a business I started secretly on my own with of my personal maids and my sister after I married into the royal family. Now I am sure that some of you are wondering why an empress would have started a business despite having everything."
More than a few nods of heads agreed silently with that statement. She had everything so why?
"Let me ask you a question as well, how many of you here want to go into business as owners and not employees?"
It was not surprising that half of the hands in the room went room went up, majority of younger women here were students of economics or entrepreneurship.
"Why do you want to go into business?" The queen dowager asked. She pointed to someone and Rize walked over to that person and handed her a microphone.
The young woman smiled shyly, holding the microphone with trembling hands.
"Um, to be rich." She said nervously.
Her response elicited laughter from many attendees.
"Ah," the queen dowager said in understanding, "the age old reason for wanting to own a business, to be rich!!!. Someone else go next."
Rize moved the microphone around and found another woman, more mature than others in the back.
"Greetings queen dowager," she spoke respectfully first and upon the queen dowager’s nod, she gave her answer, "To be independent."
"Hmmmm, independence." Was the queen dowager’s response. "Let’s hear the third and final individual."
Another young woman was chosen, she was too young in fact.
"Sorry, pardon me please" the queen dowager intervened before she could say something. "Aren’t you a little too young to be here, how old are you?"
"I am fifteen years old and I believe that it’s never too early to grow one’s knowledge or start a business." The young girl answered. She had the appearance of a good serious student in class. She wore a very clean school uniform which was a white shirt and a black skirt, her facial expression was calm and confident.
"She reminds me of myself." Madam Jing Fang said and the women laughed softly. "Have you by any chance started a business?"
"Yes." The young girl nodded.
"What’s your name?" The queen dowager asked her.
"Bori, Yi Bori." She answered.
"Bori," the queen dowager said her name. "In which grade are you and are your parents here?" She wanted to meet the parents of such a focused young lady.
"I am in the tenth grade and my parents did not come with me today. I paid for the e-ticket with my own savings. I also came with my product which is Bori’s lemonade." In her hands was a small green colored bottle of juice.
"Someone clap for Bori." The queen dowager laughed and more than one woman up there was impressed.
After the clapping, the queen dowager went on to say, "She has cracked some of the secrets to becoming a successful businesswoman at fifteen. One, always be confident and loud about your product no matter who you face because your business is like your child. A mother should be proud and loud about their child especially when the child is still young. And two always walk around with a business card or your product itself because you never know when you might meet a potential investor or a customer. I am wearing a hanfu dress from my company and so is CEO Chi Lian even though she did not know that I owned Ya hanfu until a few minutes ago. When I attend economic events or banquets with foreign dignitaries I wear my hanfu’s and when they ask about them I recommend my business just like young Bori here. No customer will trust an individual who does not eat, drink, wear or use their own products.
Clap for young Bori again because she has just met both an investor and a customer. Princess, please bring us the samples of lemonade Bori has. Of the six women up here, one of us will certainly offer Bori an investment and help to grow her business."
