Chapter 53: This will be tricky
Chapter 53: This will be tricky
Quickly, before the door could be forced open, Chi Lian pulled off her cargo pants and wrapped an old bedsheet around herself. She then lay down and Wuxi’s grandmother proceeded to wipe the fake blood off her leg and bandage it.
"Chief, my grandma said no one should disturb her when she is treating the patient." Wuxi continued to parrot the lines he had been told.
"Shove him out of the way and break down that door if you must." The chief ordered.
Wuxi’s grandma stood up and pushed the door open herself.
"Why are you all trying to force yourselves inside? Have I ever let people walk in when I was treating one of you?" she asked bravely.
"We just want to see if the stranger has left." the chief informed her. "You know how dangerous it can be in this place for strangers." His words sounded polite but they held a hint of a warning.
"The young lady is inside, I have finished patching her up and she is sleeping."
"Wake her up, she must leave immediately?" the chief insisted.
"Her leg is injured, why are you insisting that she leave the village immediately. She is alone and harmless. Are you all scared of a little girl? she mocked.
"She leaves or Wuxi goes hunting for herbs in the forest. Alone:" the chief threatened.
The old woman gave up immediately. She had to protect Wuxi at all costs. Her will to fight had been tamed brutally over the years. If she disrespected the chief, Wuxi was the one that received the punishment.
"I will wake her up and let her get clothed." she went inside with Wuxi.
Chi Lian was awake and alert. In her hands was the smart gun. If any of those villagers tried to lay a hand on her, she was taking them out.
"I am sorry, I tried to let them allow you spend the night." the old woman apologized with remorse.
This young woman was alone and unprotected. She could not even protect herself so how was she going to save Siming.
"Don’t worry, I know how to take care of myself." Chi Lian whispered. "I will get you out of here. If you ever see blue smoke rising out of the woods or the mountain, its a signal from me to lock your door and stay inside because I am coming for you. It will happen at night, so be on the look out every night from today."
She rummaged around her bag and found two chocolate bars. "Give them to Wuxi."
Then she left the village under the watchful eyes of the villagers. She followed the path that the chief had pointed out.
For four hours she walked without taking a break. There was not a single soul in sight, except for the crows which were circling her from above. There were only two possible reasons for their behavior.
Either they were probably waiting for her to drop dead so that they could feast on her carcass or there was a dying animal nearby and they were waiting for it to draw its last breath.
She took a closer look in the area and right she was!. There was a dying dog close by. It had been stabbed in the abdomen and had lost a lot of blood.
She took a closer look and its sorrowful eyes looked at her with a plea, perhaps to save it or put it out of its misery.
"Such a beautiful German shepherd, such a shame!" she lamented.
It was a black, with thick glossy fur. What in the world had happened for it to end up in this desolated place.
She pulled out her knife to end its life but it used its remaining energy to whine pleadingly.
Chi Lian hesitated. She could kill enemies but not the innocent. It didn’t matter if it was an animal, she could tell that it was a loving dog.
"T4, is there anything I can do for it? Can the perfect health capsule work for it?"
"The perfect health capsule was designed to mend a broken human body. I don’t know how an animal would react to it."
"Then I am trying."
She took one perfect health capsule, forced the dogs mouth open and pushed it down its throat. Then poured some spring water into its mouth in the hopes that the capsule would make it to the dog’s stomach.
Looking into its eyes, she said, "I have done all I can for you. If you heal, I will take you with me. If you don’t, I promise to bury you."
As she continued observing it, a minute went by. One minute turned into two, which became, three and then it was ten minutes. The dog took its last breath and closed its eyes.
The crows above called out loudly. It was time for a feast.
She looked up and apologized to the Crows, "Sorry, not today. I have a promise to keep." She had to bury it.
When she reached out to carry it, she noticed that its eyes were blinking. As if that was not shocking enough, the wound was healing at the speed of light. The dog’s body was also changing. It’s physique was now bigger and muscular, It was almost at the size of a calf. The dog suddenly looked liked it did body building in its spare time.
"T4 is this what will happen to me after I take the capsule? I don’t want to have the body of a body builder." she cried out.
How would Jun Muyang accept her if she had more muscles than him? In fact every man would run away from her.
"I told you, the capsule is meant for humans. If animals react differently, I am not aware. However this will be an interesting case study so I would like to ask for some blood samples." T4 was waving that silver syringe around again.
Reluctantly, she stepped forward and drew some blood.
"You owe me for this T4."
The dog stood up on all floors, stuck out its tongue and rubbed its head against her thighs gratefully. She stumbled and almost fell down.
"Woah... buddy, you are going to have to watch your strength because you are a big guy." she said while running her hands through its fur.
Now that her good deed was done, she continued to walk forward and entered the forest again. The sun was soon setting, she needed to set up camp.
The dog continued following her and hunting for prey which he would drop at her feet. Clearly, it had acknowledged her as its savior and owner.
"T4, can you get me something to boost it’s intelligence. If I am going to keep it around, it should have some knowledge."
"There is a serum but it will cost you one hundred thousand points because you have not activated the mall feature yet."
"There is a mall feature! like shopping from the alien world kind of mall. Why didn’t you say so sooner? Get the serum now."
She was falling in love with system more and more. It had the best surprises ever. She could not wait to level up.
T4 delivered the serum in a syringe and she injected it into the dog. She could see the change its eyes the moment the serum worked.
"If you understand me, bark once." she said and it did.
"Sit, roll, jump, run forward." Every task she gave, it accomplished efficiently.
"Do you know where the mountain fortress is?" she asked it hoping that perhaps that’s where it came from.
It barked once for yes.
"Is that where you came from?"
Another bark for yes.
"Tomorrow, you show me."
