Chapter 490: The boss is back
Chapter 490: The boss is back
Chi Lian successfully made her rounds, visiting her parents and distributing gifts to them. Even her little cousins on her mothers’ side of the family received gifts which madam An and her husband would distribute to them later. From there she left for work, the short vacation was over. She did take all three children with her to the work, Rose especially had to go with her because she was more clingy than Mei-Mei.
With her very first appearance downstairs, texts and phone calls were immediately exchanged with everyone spreading the word that the boss was back. All the employees that were secretly lazing around, sleeping in the editing rooms, or gossiping in the cafeteria hurried to return to their desks. It was not that they were lazy, they just didn’t want to leave a bad impression on her.
"Welcome back boss." Chi Lian heard everywhere she passed.
"Boss the little princess is looking cute."
"The little master has grown taller boss."
To every comment she responded positively and also said thanked them, they were wise enough not to comment on Rose whose identity was unknown to them. While she was gone Bear employed another secretary for her since Shuli’s work load was quite big. When she arrived on the very last floor both secretaries stood up and welcomed her back.
"Thank you, is anyone waiting for me inside?"
"No boss," Shuli replied, "We would never allow anyone inside your office when you are not around. Manager Bear also had a finger and password lock installed on to ensure that no one could sneak in when one of us is not around. This is the password." She handed Chi Lian a sealed envelope.
Chi Lian took it but she used her fingerprints instead. "Is Wenli here?"
"Yes boss." Shuli followed Chi Lian inside with a notepad and a pen in her hands ready to take down any instructions.
"Send her to my office, tell the manager of the magazine that I need to see her too. Bring some fresh healthy snacks to the office or the children. Send someone to look for a stationary close by and buy some middle school textbooks for children between the age of twelve to thirteen. Prioritize English textbooks, I need every subject."
Shuli nodded as she furiously scrambled down everything.
"Do you need anything else boss?" she asked.
"The office opposite mine is empty, have it turned into a study and rest room for Rose here. Include a computer and make sure that the furniture is excellent quality. Don’t include a bed, get an L shaped sofa. The table should accommodate two people and the chairs should be two, one for her and one for an adult."
Mei-Mei pulled Rose into "her office" , little monk had personally gone in their directly the moment they arrived.
"Do you need coffee boss?" Shuli asked her.
"Get me a cup of melon tea from Juan, delivery but tell them to be swift." She had not yet tasted the tea which created problems for the crown princess. "One more thing," she said just before Shuli could leave. "Contact the technology floor and tell old tiger to come and see me in two hours."
Wenli was the first to show up and receive a new set of instructions from Chi Lian. The manager in charge of the magazine entered the house after Wenli left.
"Good morning boss."
"It’s almost noon, manager Mu, I think the morning has passed. How far is your progress now?"
"We will be finished with the last parts tomorrow, I brought the rough copy for you to look at." Manager Mu played a medium sized book on Chi Lian’s desk.
"I hope the magazine itself is not going to be as big as this." Chi Lian commented on it’s semi large size before picking it up and leafing through the content.
"No boss, this book contains some of the ideas which were eliminated. In the book the employees include articles, pictures and recommendations of things they think should be included. I read through with with an assistant as we see what can be used and what’s unnecessary. Those who bring the best ideas will get credit and payment for their ideas."
"That’s a good strategy, it makes the employees active and competitive. I like it, who came up with the idea?" She replied.
"I did." Manager Mu smiled proudly. "Since we are to publish a copy every other month we have enough time for research and we can create a new book while saving the old one for reference."
"I need you to print a copy before the magazine is officially printed. The PR department of the royal family wants to take a look at it and see if there could be any disturbing details that they do not want known by the public." She pushed the book back to manager Mu.
"Do you need the entire magazine or just the interview?" Manager Mu was surprised by this request.
"The entire thing, I will be very pleased if I can see it within five days so work speedily. But be careful not to make any mistakes just because I am rushing you."
"Yes boss, do you need anything else from me?"
"No, you can leave." she dismissed her.
For the next one hour, she concentrated strictly on her work, reviewing documents, signing those which needed signing. Approving changes to budgets and programmers. Her Juan tea was delivered personally by Kiki and she finally got a chance to drink the most expensive tea which was being sold by her own tea shop. Meili had been responsible for it’s creation and pricing, Chi Lian thought it would be a hard sell but hunger promotion promoted miracles. The melon tea sold out daily, in fact some people booked it in advance weeks before for special occasions. It was not publicized but for the royal family, the tea was delivered daily. Theirs was not included in the ten cups sold daily.
She had just reached the documents related to the budget for the masked singer when someone knocked on her door.
"Come in."
"Welcome back boss." Bea came striding into her office.
"Thank you bear." Chi Lian abandoned her work and looked at bear. "What brings you to see me?"
"I came for the details of course, you went for the starlight ball but I never saw any pictures online. Did you or did you not make it?" she asked curiously.
"I did not, I went but I received some bad news on my way about an old friend so I changed direction."
Bear sat down, crossed her arms and said, "Well that’s too bad, you did not make any connections then."
"I met the Smiths." she said in a ’matter of fact’ way.
"Mr. and Mrs. Smith of the mermaid manor!" bear responded in a questioning and surprised voice.
Chi Lian guffawed slightly, "I don’t think that’s what it’s called, I am pretty sure she called it Rosewood manor I think."
"I didn’t come up with the name, the residents did." Bear shrugged. "Old man Smith’s mermaid obsession will never die down. You take one walk at the beach close to that place and someone fills you in on the mysterious mermaid. They actually sell shirts, hats, umbrellas, I mean almost everything beach related on that end is mermaid or Smith related. They can claim to hate it but they have profited from it."
"Someone should shoot a movie called the little mermaid from there, I bet it would sell." Chi Lian joked.
"Someone tried but the Smith’s bought the script and shelved it. Although that person was trying to shoot the movie basing on rumors surrounding old man Smith. But they were right you know, if I had a crazy relative I would not want anyone making a movie and embarrassing my family before the whole world. Since you have nothing new to share with me, I will go back to my office and work. By the way why have you refused to make the donation to the police in cold town public because it’s good PR?"
