Chapter 450: Grandpa Wang’s honest thoughts.

"This is unbelievable." Papa Chi said. "They were so happy last week, I escorted him when he bought the ring. We even planned the proposal together. If she did not want a serious relationship why didn’t she say so much earlier? He has wasted almost a year on relationship which has no future."

Papa Chi sat down and shook his head, he was still in disbelief as he thought about his son’s words.

"It’s for the best." grandpa Wang said. "I never approved of that relationship, she may be a good person but she had too much control over him. He is the next patriarch of the Chi family, he needs to have a back bone. And her character is also problematic, I asked only one question about her family at the first dinner when we met her and she almost bit my head off. I also know that she secretly blamed him for the actions of those maids that were fired. She is not good enough for him."

"Husband." Madam An looked around and shushed him hoping that nobody had heard his honest thoughts. "Control yourself, what if Wei returns and he hears you."

Old master Wang righteously pointed his nose in the air and he said, "You all thought the same thing but none of you dared to air your opinions. When Rize comes here she humbles herself, speaks politely and does some chores to fit in around the house like any other woman that is hoping to become a daughter-in-law in her boyfriend’s house. Every time she came here she sat down in one place waiting to be served like a princess. She would call the maids left and right as if they work for her. She acted more like a princess than the actual princess. Maybe she behaves that way because she grew up pampered in her family, I don’t know. All I know is that she did not exhibit the right traits of a future matriarch. If I am the villain in this story I will gladly be one because I have high expectations for the wife of the first son of this family."

"Honey." Madam An slapped her husband lightly on the arm. "Please stop talking." Anxiously, she kept looking at the doorway.

"If it were up to me he would be meeting daughters of other noble families and military families by next week. Of all our children whose marriages we have pushed who is unhappy?" Old master Wang challenged his wife.

All of their children were married, had children of their own and still together with their spouses.

"How do you know if they are happy?" Papa Chi asked. Many people suffered silently in unhappy marriages and they stayed for different reasons. What evidence was there that these arranged marriages of the Wang family were successful stories? Never would he willingly participate in forcing his son into an unhappy marriage.

"Marriage is not by force." old master Wang said, "All of our children and grandchildren know that if they are maltreated by their spouse they can come back home, the door is wide open. Our Wang family is closely knit and we look out for one another. I can assure you that if any one of them wanted out in a marriage I would be the first in line to pick them up and sort things out for them."

Papa Chi sighed heavily and so did madam An. Some of the things the old master said they had seen and disapproved of but Chi Wei loved her.

"What if he decides to wait for her?" madam An suddenly asked. "You heard him, she wants to get married at thirty five. What if he decides to wait until she is ready?"

Grandpa Wang looked stunned, as if he had been shot by an arrow. "This won’t do." he said, "I am going to start arranging blind dates for him next week."

"Old master." Papa Chi was very alarmed. "His heart will not have healed by then."

"In that case, I am going to make arrangements to send him to the capital military base. He needs to keep busy and forget about her as soon as possible. By the time he comes out that actress will be nothing more than another faded memory. Then he can start meeting appropriate women." The old master Wang had made up his mind and there was no changing it back.

"What if he says no?" papa Chi asked. "He is a CEO with a company to run, he cannot just abandon all of his responsibilities and go to a military base. What will he even do in the army?"

Grandpa Wang looked at Papa Chi with assurance in his eyes, "Chi Wei has our Wang family blood in his body. The call to serve our empire is somewhere deep down in him. He will not refuse, I will personally talk to him." He made a move to go upstairs and talk to Chi Wei.

"Father-in-law." Papa Chi called out, "Chi Wei has never been to the army and I do not want to force him into it. If he says no, I want you to promise me that you will let it go."

He knew that Grandpa Wang could be stubborn and pushy. He made it his mission to transform the Chi family into what he considered respectable among the other aristocratic families but at what cost? Never would he trade the happiness of any of his children just to fit in.

"I give you my word." Grandpa Wang stood at the bottom of the stairs and gave Papa Chi a thoughtful look. "He is my grandson, whatever I do is for his sake. I want him to be happy too, you have my promise on this."

"Me too Shiqing, I am holding you to that promise. In fact I am coming with you, we can talk to him together."

Despite Chi Wei’s desire not to tell her about it, Chi Lian learned about the break up pretty quickly because Jian Yu called and spoke to her.

Her fear was that she would be abandoned by phoenix entertainment because there was no more relationship between herself and Chi Wei. Chi Lian had assured her that the company was professional and knew how to separate business and personal issues.

When she got off the phone she looked at her husband that was helping her pack clothes and supplies for the trip.

"Hubby I think my brother was dumped by Jian Yu." She told Muyang. She knew that he had to be in pain because he loved her so much. "He is going to be so heart broken, what should I do Muyang? How should I fix this? Should I talk to Jian Yu and see if this is solvable?"

Just as grandma An thought, her first instinct was to fix her brother or the situation and take away his pain.

Muyang was folding a dress for her, he put it down and pulled her in for a hug. "Your brother is a grown man that can handle his own love life. You cannot fix his broken heart, all you can do is comfort him without pitying him or you will make him feel pathetic. Do not attempt to fix things or you might make it worse. I will check on him while you are away and if I see cause to worry you will be my first call."
