Chapter 449: A broken heart

The doctor that treated her cleared her and they returned home that morning, Chi Lian did not want to spend a single moment more in the hospital for there was a lot to do. She had successfully pacified Muyang and she planned to go on with her trip after making many promises to take care of herself and video call him every after two hours.

The old madam was unhappy to see them when they returned, she was leaving the house with her husband and breakfast for Chi Lian.

"How can you allow her to come home so soon?" she blamed Muyang.

"The doctor cleared her." he answered.

"Come and help her to the dining table, she has to eat before doing anything else." the old madam told the maids. "It was supposed to be twenty four hour observation in the hospital, those hours have not yet elapsed." she mumbled.

"She looks fine." the old master told his wife.

"Looking fine on the outside is not the same as being fine on the fine on the inside." she retorted.

"But with that special medicine of hers do you really think that she can fall sick and not use it? Look at our condition, we are probably some of the healthiest over seventy people in the empire." The old master spoke wisely. He and his wife had not fallen sick ever since they took that capsule. It was impossible to believe that the owner of the capsule had no means to cure herself.

"You are right." his wife answered. "Now that you are talking about that special medicine I want to ask Chi-Chi to give me some to save for the children. If it can be preserved we can hide it in a bank vault and only tell a few trusted family members. We should prepare for emergencies, what if something happens someday when Chi-Chi is not around?"

In her opinion the medicine was much more valuable than ten tonnes of gold and it needed to be kept away safely.

"She is planning to go on a trip." the old master realized. Indeed if there was an emergency in her absence then having a reserve stash would come in handy.

"Yes," his wife replied.

All this being said the old master was quite unsure about how such a topic could be up with her. What if she assumed that they wanted to take advantage of her? Even between loved ones lines were usually drawn.

"But who will bring up this topic with her?" he asked.

The old madam looked at the only person in the house that could bring up the issue safely. Their grandson and Chi-Chi’s husband, who better to bring up the topic than him?

"This concerns their children so I think it will be a safer idea if Muyang does it. The earlier the better, it needs to get done before she gets on that flight tonight."

The two elders looked at their grandson who was taking turns feeding his wife and son porridge from the safe spoon. The three people at the table were smiling happily, all memories of the previous day completely wiped out. Little monk was lazily eating the porridge with his head leaning against his mother’s chest. The moment was so memory worthy that the old madam took a picture of the moment with her phone.

Things in the Jun family ancestral house were peaceful and quiet but in the Chi family house, everything was not rosy. Last night after ensuring that Chi Lian was okay and leaving the hospital, papa Chi noticed that his oldest son did not appear to be his usual charming smiling self.

His eyes had a shade of red as if he had been crying, he wore this permanent frown on his face and he smelled of alcohol.

Before he could ask him about it, Chi Wei vanished for the rest of the night only to return in the morning extremely testy, angry and smelling of more alcohol. The arms of his shirt were pulled up and his hair was disorganized.

Papa Chi was not the only one to notice, grandpa Wang and Madam An noticed too.

"What is wrong with you, why are you behaving so irresponsibly? You are the CEO of a company, you can’t drive when you are intoxicated. Are you trying to die?" Papa Chi asked his son.

Reeking of alcohol as he was he had even driven a car. What if he got into an accident and endangered his life or killed someone?

"How could you drive in this condition?" Papa Chi yelled at Chi Wei.

Chi Wei did not reply, he just looked down at the floor saying nothing but brooding. The aura he exuded was cold, he was filled with sadness and anger.

Madam An sent away all the servants that were cleaning. The family’s problems did not need to be discussed in front of them.

"Wei," she approached him. "Grandma is here." She took his hand. "Just talk to me and tell me what’s wrong. I promise you that whatever it is, we will fix it if possible."

Papa Chi was stunned because Chi Wei broke down slowly and he started crying. It was only for a few seconds because he stopped himself and wiped his tears away.

"Wei." Madam An said worriedly. She looked at her husband, urging him with her eyes to do something about the situation.

"Should I call your sister?" She asked. Chi Lian was like the fixer of the Chi’s. Whatever happened she would snap her fingers and all would be sunny again.

"No." Chi Wei lifted his head and said firmly. "My sister has just returned from the hospital, I don’t need to stress her with issues to do with my personal life. It’s nothing serious anyway, Jian Yu and I broke up, I asked her to marry me and she said no. That’s why I am upset but I will be fine, it’s just a heart break, I have never seen any human being that died from a broken heart."

"Oh Wei." Madam An said in a soft sad voice. There was a part of her which loved Chi Wei a lot, he was her daughter’s first child, the one that had been with her the longest. He had suffered at the hands of the wicked Li family many times just to protect Nuo. She hated so much seeing him in pain and she wanted to fix it. "What do you need me to do? I will do anything to see you smiling again. Should I talk to Jian yu?"

Chi Wei forced himself to smile and he gripped madam An’s hands tightly.

"It’s not necessary grandma, Yu-Yu and I are on two different paths. She is not planning to marry until she is thirty five because she wants to achieve more in her career. I want a family soon, even if you talk to her nothing is going to change. I will be fine soon, I promise."

He stood and and excused himself with the excuse of needing to take a bath. He did not even realize that he had left the ring box behind on the sofa.

Madam An picked it up and sighed.

"What are we going to do about Wei, he won’t become depressed or do something stupid, right?" she asked her husband.
