Chapter 44: A family dinner

With an embarrassed look on her face, she paid for three pairs of shoes before mulling around and mumbling underneath her breath.

Muyang and Wenzhe were standing outside the shop and waiting for her. She could see that twinkle in their eyes, as if they wanted to laugh but were afraid to anger her.

"Humph." She turned her nose up and walked ahead of the group.

"We are heading to the top most floors." Jun Muyang said as she took the first two steps.

She glared at him after turning around. He really was her nemesis today.

The last five floors of the mall were occupied by a luxury hotel named Ultra which was owned by a foreigner from the British Empire Mr. Owens.

It was catered mostly to tourists and the rich business men. However, anybody that could afford their prices was allowed entry.

However, the dressing code for Ultra hotel was very strict. It was strictly formal wear and one could not be granted entry if they were dressed in clothes like damaged jeans or skimpy outfits.

Even celebrities who dressed like that had to put in a request in advance before being granted entry. Even then, they had to change their appearance once they were inside.

The reason for all this strictness was because it was a hub for foreign investors so a lot of politicians, wealthy business men and women frequented it.

Since she had no business here, Chi Lian’s greatest concentration was on the food. How good was their food?

Her stomach must have been in agreement with her because it rumbled really loudly.

"Cough, cough." Her eyes darted back and forth.

Once more, she was feeling embarrassed, why was God punishing her like this today?

They were led to a large spaced dining area that had a tiny fountain in the middle and private rooms.

"We want a private room, big enough for about seven people. Preferably one family sized table isolated from the common one." Muyang requested.

The server took them to such a room. It was not the first time for someone to come in with such a request. Most wealthy families that came in with their families did it this way. They got a table for the family and a table for the secretaries, bodyguards and nannies.

This way, everyone would be comfortable when eating their food. Otherwise, the employees would be too busy fawning over their employers to eat.

The family sized table was just enough for the three of them. A baby chair was added for Mei-Mei to reach the table with ease.

"What do you want to eat?" Muyang asked her.

"What do they have here that is good?"

"They have western and traditional food so you can choose what you want."

She looked over the menu carefully; chicken was her favorite thing to eat when it came to food.

"I will have the Moo Shu chicken, some fries and a glass of orange juice."

"Steak for me," Muyang said after her.

The server turned his gaze to Mei-Mei who was banging on the table.

"Hmm, get her a glass of mango juice, some mashed potatoes and chicken lollipops, the small size." Chi Lian decided after thinking about it for a while. Mei-Mei was a chicken lover after all. She could not chew the whole thing but she would suck and bite where possible.

"A glass of red wine for me," Muyang added to his order.

"How often do you come here?" She realized that they needed to talk to pass the time. Muyang was not much of a talker so the task fell on her.

"Not a lot. I only come here when I have a business deal to close and the other party wants to meet here. But I do order for their food occasionally. "

"I noticed a lot of foreigners in this hotel, why is that?"

"Business, most of them are here for business." As he talked, he tapped his fingers on the table. "The mall is partially owned by Jun investments and we decided to invest in it as soon as I caught wind of Ultra hotel moving in because I figured out how much traffic it would bring in.

Most of these business men travel with their families who do a lot of shopping in the mall which in return attracts high end shops that pay a lot of money to rent a shop in the building. That alone in itself is more than enough of a compelling reason to invest."

"Ooh, Jun Muyang, you are so smart. You tend to see the potential in things right from the beginning. Just like tea with a princess."

She held two thumbs up as she praised him.

"I hear other sponsors are now knocking on your door."

"Yes, a tea manufacturer, an antique shop, a ceramics company and a pharmaceutical company. But I will take my time deciding which company is the right fit for us. I can’t be greedy and take them all in. Where would I fit their ads in?"

The male server returned with others servers and all their food was delivered at once.

Mei-Mei the foodie reached for the glass of juice that had been set in in front of her. When Chi Lian noticed, she pulled it away immediately.

The little girl’s eyes watered and she looked at Muyang aggrievedly.

That look was like his personal kryptonite. It was slowly becoming his weakness. He looked at Chi Lian questioningly.

"She will spill it all over herself and break the glass as well."

She had seen a baby shop downstairs so she sent the nanny to buy a bottle and the juice was transferred.

Because she could already grasp things firmly in her hands, Mei-Mei took the bottle and sipped her juice happily.

In between feeding themselves, they took turns feeding her as well. All the little darling had to do was open her mouth and food would be delivered. Except for her chicken lollipops, those she personally held for herself.

After food, the nanny cleaned her up in the bathroom and they set off.

On the return journey, he told her all about his mother, grandfather and grandmother. Their likes and dislikes.

Chi Lian made a mental note of all the things he was saying. These are the people who would support her in her goal to become the future Mrs. Jun Muyang. Her daughter could not be raised by a step mother after all.

"How should I act when I meet them?"

"Just be yourself. My grandmother doesn’t like pretentious people."

"If they ask about how we met what should I say? I am sure they will want to know how Mei-Mei was made."

Jun Muyang laughed, "I am sure they know how babies are made."

"Not that!" she blushed furiously. "I mean what led to us having sex. Our answers need to match one hundred percent."

"I was on a business trip in the American empire and you were there for one year of school, we met at a bar, got drunk and had a one night stand."

That story was feasible but she would come out looking cheap and easy. His family would look down on her.

"I don’t like it."

"Then what story works for you?"

"You were poisoned with a drug like Gu poison and sex with me was the only thing that could save you."

He looked at her and laughed. Was this a novel in a cultivation world?

"That’s even more ridiculous. My grandfather will go on rampage trying to find the culprit who poisoned me."

After thinking carefully, she came up with another plan. "We met to discuss business, got drunk and ended up in bed. The next morning I was gone and you returned to China. In this story I am business oriented, I made a mistake due to alcohol, I knew who you were but chose to raise the child on my own and I never black mailed you for money or benefits after we met again accidentally. "

Basically, in this scenario, she came out looking good.

"Then we go with that."

The car parked and they both exited. Mei-Mei who was sleeping was taken in by the nanny.

"Soo...good night." she said hesitantly.

"Goodnight." he walked to his house.

With a sigh, she entered hers. She had been hoping for a hug or something but he was not there yet.

"Muyang." She called just before the door closed behind him. "mwah." She sent a flying kiss and made a heart with her fingers.

After seeing his beautiful smile, she walked on.
