Chapter 418: Giving grandmother An a gift
As she unboxed the wheel chair which she had acquired from T4’s world of course. all eyes were on her. Not even Muyang had seen the wheel chair. She had kept it a secret from everyone because she wanted it to be a surprise.
It did not look exactly like a wheel chair because it was folded but as she unfolded it, it started taking shape and when she was finished, she was given way to push it closer to madam An for her to look at.
The wheel chair was black and it was as soft and comfortable like a real chair. Despite the softness on the inside, it was hard on the outside. It maintained two circular wheels but there were no ridges in these wheels. They looked like designer wheels of an expensive car. Four small shiny metallic buttons were placed squarely where the occupant of the chair leaned. The arm rest of the chair had a glowing green computer screen with a lot of buttons.
"Grandma, I had this chair specially made for you. It’s very comfortable and secure, Let me show you all the cool features. These small metallic buttons are straps and they can be used in case you are going too fast.
The chair is automated and you control how you want it to move. The buttons on your right hand arm rest have been labeled for easy use. Letter ’u’ is for up. If you press it, the chair increases in height, it can make you as tall as I am. The ’r’ is for rotate. If you want to turn around, it stays in place but spins you to face face behind. ’R’ and ’L’ are for left and right. The ’p’ is for an automatic ramp which comes out and aids you in going upstairs or down stairs easily. "
For each button she explained, she also tapped and the action it was designed to do was done. Mei-Mei was applauding as if this was a magic chair and she kept trying to get to the wheel chair to play.
"The chair is finger print and voice activated to prevent others from using it as a racing toy. This is because it can go up to a speed of twenty kilometers per hour. It’s not as fast as car but it’s speedy. It has a lot of cool features including GPS tracking, and secret weapons in case you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation.
With this small computer monitor that controls the features of the chair you can access the internet as long as you have access to Wi-Fi. You can check the settings grid to see all the other features because I have only activated the major ones. I will look for a way to have a basic AI installed so that you can use voice commands to operate it."
She was so nonchalant as she explained but everyone else was in awe. This was a wheel chair like no other, it was a small smart car. No, it was better than a car because cars did not come with weapons. How much had gone into the creation of this chair? Who had created it?
Chi Wei was thinking about the mechanisms of how it worked? Chi Zimo was wondering if he would get a chance to take the chair for a spin. Bolin was wondering how much it cost.
Muyang wanted to explore the computer system of the wheel chair while the little ones wanted to play.
"Grandma, come and try it out. You have to get comfortable because this is your new car. It will take you everywhere you want."
Chi Lian looked expectantly at her grandmother. Unexpectedly, madam An appeared to be hesitant and she could not fathom why.
"Grandma, don’t you like my gift?" Chi Lian asked madam An softly?
A thought crossed her mind that perhaps she had been to presumptuous in doing this. Maybe she should have talked to her grandmother first before bringing the wheel chair over and unveiling it in front of the whole family.
She would have preferred to fit her grandmother into prosthetics from T4’s world immediately but she knew how uncomfortable and sensitive her grandmother was about prosthetics that’s why she chose to go with a wheel chair first. Perhaps this too had been a mistake.
"I will get rid of it if you do not like it grandma." she said softly.
At least six pairs of eyes bulged when she said that she would get rid of the wheel chair. If they could step in and claim ownership of it, they would have done so and they were all holding back out of respect for madam An.
Chi Lian touched it and her grandmother’s hands stopped her, "What are you talking about, did I say you should get rid of my wheel chair?"
Chi Lian removed her hands from it. Then she said, "But you l did not say anything."
"I was taking time to digest all this. You young people today have no patience at all, what have I taught you Chi-Chi? Always be patient and not rush to judgements. You surprised me in such a big way that I had to first exhaust all of my shock before reacting." her grandmother said. "Where did you get this kind of chair from? Are you sure that the owner of the technology will not come looking for you?" her grandmother asked.
"He works for me." she replied. "He will be moving here when the construction of my lab is finished."
As she was explaining, Mei-Mei had successfully escaped from the prison hold of her father’s arms and crawled to the chair. Maybe she thought she would not be noticed if she walked on her knees.
When she reached the wheel chair, she tried to climb up but she failed so she turned her big watery eyes to Chi Lian.
"Mummy Up." she said.
Chi Lian carried her into her arms and not the chair and Mei-Mei started crying. Normally everyone would be of the opinion that she should be allowed to play for a bit but with how expensive they all thought the chair was , it was best for Mei-Mei not to mess around in it.
Chi Lian however knew that the crying would not stop today until Mei-Mei got a chance to ride the chair.
Her grandmother saved her by saying, "I will sit in the chair and hold her, little monk too because I know he is dying to get a ride in my cool new chair that my great granddaughter has brought for me."
