Chapter 417: Grandma’s new wheels.
When she returned from her morning run, she found Mei-Mei sleeping lazily on Black guard’s back near the door way. She was in her pink dinosaur onesie and in one hand she was holding a bottle of milk. She was practically using Blackguard as her mattress or cushion. Not that Blackguard cared anyway, his eyes were closed and he was sleeping.
Chi Lian scooped her daughter up and carried her upstairs, "Ho, if it isn’t the dinosaur princess, what are you doing down here?"
"Waiting for mummy." Mei-Mei answered. She let go of the bottle of milk to grab Chi Lian’s cheeks and it fell down.
The bottle of milk rolled down the stairs and the robot vacuum cleaner came and cleaned all the spilled milk up within a few seconds. The little robot vacuum cleaner had little spider like legs which enabled it to climb stairs. The old madam said that those legs were it’s most useful feature. Little monk had named the vacuum robot Toto.
A maid picked up the milk bottle and took it to the kitchen.
"Next time be careful with your bottle." she told Mei-Mei.
"Yes mummy." Mei-Mei replied and smiled. Her tiny teeth were all on display for Chi Lian to see.
They went to the bedroom and Muyang was still under the covers. He was laying down with his face up and one arm covering his eyes. Chi Lian realized that she had never seen Muyang sleeping in. He always woke up before she did and often slept after she did.
She was struggling between the need to wake him up and the desire to allow him have his much needed rest.
"Daddy, mummy I see daddy." Mei-Mei told her.
"I see him too." she answered.
"Want daddy." Mei-Mei said.
Since they had to pay a visit her parents house she had no choice but to wake him up. They had one hour to get ready and leave.
Mei-Mei was all too happy to crawl to her father and wake him up. Her dinosaur tail was dangling as she crawled like a cat on the large bed. Chi Lian dragged her back by the tail and Mei-Mei giggled. They did this three times before she let her go eventually.
Just when Mei-Mei was about to poke Muyang’s face, he opened his eyes and said, "Boo."
Mei-Mei squealed and turned to crawl back to Chi-Lian. Rather than laughing, the little girl was crying. Chi Lian sat down at the edge of the bed and she comforted Mei-Mei.
"Sorry, daddy is bad." she told her. "We will scare him together tomorrow."
Muyang on the other hand looked guilty, it was not his intention to make his princess cry. He thought she would laugh and he would tickle her and they would play for a few minutes.
"Mei-Mei, daddy is sorry." he approached mother and daughter with an apologetic look on his face. He took Mei-Mei from his wife and he was happy that she did not reject him.
"Mei-Mei, what do you want? Daddy will buy for you anything you want today."
"Don’t you dare." Chi Lian warned him. "We have been warned not to spoil her, if you buy her something again she will learn that if I cry my daddy will buy me things. And I know you, you never buy small things, you will buy for her something extravagant and expensive but also useless."
Muyang grumbled, "They are not that extravagant."
Chi Lian rolled her eyes when she heard the words that were almost whispered. She walked into their closet and returned with a box.
"Evidence One, you bought her glass slippers that cost one hundred twenty thousand Yuan because she cried after falling down from a chair in your office. She can’t even walk in these things, they are decorative shoes Muyang. There is more evidence in the closet so don’t bother fighting the charges accused individual just accept your crimes."
Muyang scratched his hair and coughed, "Yes your honor." he said.
She extended her arms and took her from him, "We have to meet my family in an hour for breakfast, I am going to take a bath with Mei-Mei. Check on little monk and see if he is awake. Please tell a maid to give him a bath or bring him with you and my two favorite boys in the world can also take a bath together. I have plenty of clothes for him here to change into."
"Yes madam." Muyang replied.
While she and Mei-Mei were taking a bath, Muyang returned with little monk and they dozed off in the bed. She had to wake them up to take their baths and within forty five minutes, the small family of four was off to the Chi house.
It was an extremely short drive and when they arrived at the house, Meili was waiting for her outside the house in a car. When he saw her, he stepped out and handed her a big box. She carried it easily inside even though Muyang attempted two times to exchange the children in his arms for the box because he thought it was heavy.
Chi Lian was excited to be home again. Nothing had changed here, everything was the same. Coming home felt familiar while alien at the same time even though it had only been a few days.
"Miss, you are back." the butler was the first to see her and he welcomed her so happily. "And you brought the children."
He hurried to take the box from her and she let him.
"Where is everyone?" she asked him.
"They are waiting for you in the living room, when the chef heard that you and the young master were coming, he prepared birds nest soup for you." the butler was extremely talkative today.
She made a frowny face however because birds nest was not something she loved to drink.
"Give it to my grandmother, I will not be having it. I already had some yesterday." she lied.
"Oh, okay then."
In the living room, there was a mixture of Chis and Wang’s all of them sitted and engaged in conversation. The television was on, it was Phoenix TV as always, the morning news was reporting something about the excavation of the bodies buried in the Chu plantation.
"We are here." Chi Lian announced and we come carrying gifts.
Even though everyone had just seen each other yesterday, they all acted as if they were meeting after decades of not seeing one another. Her mother was sniveling and Zimo was hanging onto her arm.
She and Muyang greeted her grandparents and then her parents.
"Why did you come with gifts, you didn’t need to bring anything." her father said.
"Grandmother insisted, she said that it was tradition." Chi Lian answered.
"Sister, what is in the big box?" Chi Zimo asked. He was very curious about what the big gift was.
Chi Lian touched the box and she said, "Oh this, these are grandma’s new wheels."
