Chapter 401: Horse riding

The young man extended his hand to greet Chi Lian eagerly. In Muyang’s opinion, too eagerly.

Before he could shake Chi Lian’s hand, Muyang’s hands engulfed his entirely.

"Yes, nice to meet you." he said as he shook the man’s hand. "I am investment whiz Jun Muyang, her husband."

Ringo, the old madam and Chi Lian could not believe it. Muyang was not just jealous, his jealousy was petty too. Why was he mentioning the investment whiz part?

"Ho!" Chi Lian said.

The trainer was also perplexed. Was there anyone in the empire who did not know Jun Muyang? Was there anyone who did not know that he was a talented investor? Why was he calling himself her husband?

"Nice to meet you sir." the trainer replied. And then to Muyang’s displeasure he turned his beaming smile on Chi Lian. "Miss Chi, I was watching the news when you covered that bombing last year. I have been a very big fun of yours since then. If it’s okay with you, can I ask for a picture and an autograph?" He brought a folded white paper out of his pocket and a pen.

"Sure, sure." she replied. She signed the paper and handed it back to him.

Then she pulled Muyang in for the picture.

As he was putting his phone back into his pocket, he asked her, "So, do you want to start your lessons right now?"

She replied, "The lessons are for my children not me. I am a good horse rider, I learned a long time ago."

Adventure had been her biggest pass time. Riding a horse was something she learned as a child.

Muyang looked all sunny and happy once again, "My wife is good at everything." he said.

"Yes she is." the young man answered.

Muyang’s smile dampened a little bit. "My children need riding lessons, I think now is the right time to start." he told the trainer.

"Yes," the old madam agreed, "Can you begin with my granddaughter? My grandson can teach my great grandson."

"Well we have to move to the smaller horses then, they certainly can’t ride these ones."

Their group was led to a barn with smaller horses and the children were told to pick the one which appealed to them.

"Mummy pony." Mei-Mei pointed at the shortest grey and white horse with a with a mane of hair that was covering it’s eyes because it was bending down.

"Very nice." she answered. "Can she ride the pony?" he asked the trainer.

The trainer shook his head. "Sorry, the pony is the personal horse of the third prince. You can pick from any of the other horses here."

She knew that Mei-Mei would be disappointed but what could be done. Little monk had already picked his and Ringo was propping his up on it. On his head was a black helmet with a picture of an orange. Chi Lian snapped a quick picture.

"Baby choose another one." she told Mei-Mei.

"Pony." Mei-Mei insisted. With her lower lip trembling, voice teary and her eyes watery, it looked as if she was about to cry or throw a tantrum.

"Muyang." she called him in that voice which he knew meant ’do something.’

"I will make a call." he stepped away.

She decided to convince Mei-Mei to choose another horse while Muyang was making that call.

"Look baby, see this pretty horse." she pointed at another horse whose hair was braided. "See the pretty hair."

Mei-Mei stared at the horse with braided hair and Chi Lian could see the interest in her eyes. It would have worked if the pony did not decide to prance around at that exact moment.

"Pony, pony." Mei-Mei clapped. Her excitement took on a whole new turn. "Mummy sugar pony."

She wanted to give the pony a sugar cube.

"Just give it to her, if she is not able to ride it she should at least get a chance to feed it and touch it. Is that against rules?" the old madam asked the trainer.

"No." he answered.

She gave a sugar cube to Mei-Mei and the pony smelled it and it trotted over. It neighed loudly and greedily bit at the sugar cube.

"What a feisty little thing." the old madam commented. "It might actually just be more dangerous than an adult horse. Muyang," she called, "If there is no positive answer, let it go."

"He has agreed, we are concluding something else." Muyang answered.

The trainer let the pony out of the stall and it immediately started trotting around vigorously. The trainer said something and it slowed down. He placed a helmet similar to the one on little monk’s head on Mei-Mei’s head, carried her up and sat her on it’s back.

"I still don’t like this." the old madam was reluctant. What if her great granddaughter was injured?

"It will be fine madam, I am a professional." the trainer replied. "The minute I sense that something is going wrong I will pull the plug."

"I am going to get a horse and follow you." she answered. "Chi-Chi, you and Muyang can ride on your own."

Muyang was still on the phone so she walked back to where the adult horses were kept, observing them one at a time. She was looking for a spirited one, the one which would race as if the wind was chasing after it.

In essence, she was looking for a proud horse and she found one. It was a black horse, big and beautiful. It was standing in a stall all by itself.

As she walked slowly from one end of the stall to the other, it’s eyes followed her warily.

She offered a sugar cube but the horse refused to have it. A proud stallion would not be tempted by such small things.

She offered an apple and it neighed fiercely and raised it’s front legs. If she were standing close, it would have trampled her.

"You are going to make me work for it I see." she laughed. "Don’t worry, I still have one more trick up my sleeves."

She had received pet food from the system which she had not taken out. It was universal pet food, any animal could eat it.

It was a big package with hundreds of small other packets inside. When she opened one of the small packets, she saw some pebble sized brown square shaped treats. They smelled like oven fresh baked biscuits.

A she was wondering what they tasted like, the proud horse pushed it’s head above the railing and grabbed the packet out of her hands with it’s teeth.

She held on to the packet of treats and looked it in the eyes. "Are you ready to bargain now?"
