Chapter 369: Aunt Elf

Chi Lian wondered whether telling her mother right now that her new business manager wanted the entertainment company out of the building. They had all grown accustomed to working in close contact with each other. Would the small distance be seen as an inconvenience? They usually had lunch together in the cafeteria, would that tradition also be stopped once they moved.

"For heaven sake host, they will be moving just across the road. You have really strong attachment issues when it comes to your family; I think you should see a therapist."

"I don’t have attachment issues." She denied.

But deep down, she knew that T4 was right, she had strong attachment issues because until now, a part of her was carrying all the baggage from her previous life.

"Prove it, let them go." T4 said as he taunted her with his beady little eyes.

Not to be outdone by the smart mouthed pet, she looked at her mother and said, "Mother the entertainment company is moving out of the building."

"Why, did we cause trouble, which person caused trouble?" Mama Chi as always was quick to draw her own conclusions.

"It’s a business decision; I suggested that it was unwise to have celebrities in close contact with ordinary office workers." A new voice belonging to none other than bear joined the conversation.

The grandparents and mama Chi looked at the owner of the voice.

"Mum, pwitty elf." Mei-Mei said and clapped excitedly. "I want to play with pwitty elf." It was Chi Zimo who came in with both twins in his arms and Mei-Mei spotted bear’s ears. Lately her favorite cartoon was something about elves, fairies and gnomes singing with other creatures in the forest and going on adventures.

"This is not an elf Mei-Mei, it’s an aunt." Chi Lian carried Mei-Mei and explained to her slowly.

Mei-Mei tilted her head, looked at bear and said, "Aunt Elf."

Chi Zimo cackled like an idiot and Chi Lian glared at him. "Not aunt elf, she told her daughter, aunt bear."

Mei-Mei pouted and insistently said, "Aunt Elf."

From the looks of things, this was going to turn into a long argument but Chi Lian was determined to correct her daughter. Ever since Qi Qing told her that her grandmother said Mei-Mei was spoiled, she was making an effort to correct her behavior.

It was working because Mei-Mei had gone from throwing six tantrums a day to two.

"How is aunt bear any different from aunt Elf?" Mama Chi asked with confusion on her face which was causing her to frown.

Bear responded, "Oh, everyone calls me bear, you can also refer to me by that name. I am Miss Chi Lian’s new business manager."

"Are you related to old tiger, spider, squirrel and the others?" Grandpa Wang asked her.

Bear nodded and said, "I am their sister."

"Aaaah." The old grandparents said as if they suddenly understood the bear reference after all, old tiger and the rest of Chi Lian’s men usually went by their animal code names. It was rare to hear them referring to one another with their actual names.

Grandpa Wang even suspected that the names they went by were also fake because a time or two, he had noticed people going by old tiger and spider returning to the house with Chi-Chi but their faces were different, if they could mask their faces why not their names?

"Can we go back to why we are being moved out of the building?" Mama Chi stepped in to deal with what was more pressing to her. "We have all put a lot of effort into turning those floors into the perfect training spaces; there is a recording studio, dancing studio, meditation room, make up rooms and other well done areas. If we have to move, a lot of money is going to go into turning the new place into the perfect one we have right now."

Chi Lian could understand her mother but she was also aware in the long term, the media company would expand. She would need more space and it was true that the celebrities were a distraction.

Gu Xixi had already fired one employee for selling pictures of different Phoenix celebrities online. This was the one T4 called the fox in the hen house. She was an employee who spent more time visiting the spa and gossiping rather than working. It was the issue she was going to deal with next week before bear also brought it up.

"Mother, the celebrities are a distraction to the normal employees. I thought separate floors would be enough but I was wrong. One employee of my company has already been fired for sneakily taking their pictures and selling them to a paparazzo. Who is to say that she will be the last?

Wenli told me that when one of the male celebrities goes down to the spa for a facial or a massage, some female employees leave their desks and sneak off to the spa to drool over them. I can’t condone such behavior I need them to be focused. That is why I banned ordinary employees from the spa recently but bear suggests that alone will not be enough."

"I think that’s wise." Grandpa Wang nodded vigorously. "Mixing those celebrities with normal workers is not a good idea. One time back in the army, we brought a female musician to sing for the troops and boost morale. When the performance was over, she requested to tour the base so we allowed it. She kept walking, waving and stopping to greet different soldiers. At first it was harmless but in the end, four soldiers fought because she smiled in their direction and they were all claiming ownership over the smile."

"And celebrities are supposed to be stars. Stars are supposed to shine bright while staying unreachable to ordinary people in order to be stars. If they are easily accessible then they will lose their glow and become ordinary." Chi Zimo added.

"So where are suggesting we move to?" Mama Chi asked.

"Bear says the building opposite ours has space for rent. You will not be going far, just across the road." Chi Lian told her mother.

As she explained, she shifted Mei-Mei from her right side to her left because she noticed her sticky fingers trying to reach out to touch bears ears. She also lightly spanked the little girls butt.

Mei-Mei sniveled as if she was preparing to cry but Chi Lian refused to comfort her so she swallowed her cries back unwillingly.

Lately, even if she screamed the house down, her mother refused others to console her unless her tears were justified.

This tough love was painful to Chi Lian but it had to be done.

"She can touch them." Bear said to Chi Lian and she brought her ears closer.

"No, she needs to learn self-control. If you allow her to touch them once, she will make it a habit and expect to touch them every time."

"You are being too hard on her." Mama Chi said with a sigh. "Anyway, I am going to call your brother and tell him that we are moving to another building. He should put a stop to all the renovations which are going on."

As she did so, grandma Wang asked Bear, "What are your qualifications?"
