Chapter 363: Breaking news
Chapter 363: Breaking news
Those who were watching phoenix television from home, office or school were the first to see the breaking news.
Two news anchors, one male and one female usually read the nine o’clock news on phoenix television. Normally, it was similar to the content of other televisions with a few stories here and there that were different but today, no other television, radio; online blog was reporting this news.
"Breaking news," The female anchor said, "The police is currently conducting a raid on the Chu tea plantation and factory as I speak. According to our sources, police has found evidence of human and organ trafficking being carried out at this plantation. Apparently the endless supply of these organs has been illegal migrant workers, orphaned children and the homeless population. The Chu family has been engaged in this business for over one hundred years with the mantle being passed down from patriarch to patriarch.
Our reporters at the site have more to share on this matter, over to you Mo Pingfan. How is the situation over there, have any arrests been made?"
The scene changed, showing a chaotic mess behind a female anchor that was talking, "Yes, as you can all see behind me, this is the scene in the offices of Chu teas where the prosecutors who arrived one minute ago with a search and seizure warrant are taking away all the documents. We do not know what is in these documents but claims have been made that they are trying to find a list of over one hundred names of employees that have gone missing over the years.
Evidence from this corner where a shredding machine is sitting shows that when the workers first heard the sound of sirens, they hurried and started shredding what could be important documents however this abandoned trolley of paperwork next to the shredder could also be evidence that they did not get to it in time.
As you can see down below, the police are taking away dozens of angry and unwilling workers in handcuffs. There is so much going on around because child protective services are also at the scene rescuing three dozens of children that have been forced to work on this planation all year round."
As reporter Mo was explaining, the loud sounds of sirens, cursing and tears had not died down.
In one home in the empire, an old woman was watching the news with her husband and she was very scared.
"Husband, our son went for an interview with the Chu enterprise today, hurry and call him to come back before he gets himself arrested."
Other journalists and news networks caught wind of what phoenix television was reporting and they rushed to the headquarters of the Chu enterprise only to be met with more policemen who had sealed off the building.
More documents were being ferried out and executives who were dressed nicely in their expensive suits and beautiful dresses were being forced into police cars.
Back to phoenix television, Mo Pingfan was now downstairs interviewing one of the rescued children whose face was blurred out to keep his identity secret.
"Can you tell us if your family is alive?"
"I don’t know, I don’t remember." The boy said.
"How long have you been working on this plantation?"
"Three years." He replied.
"Do you go to school?" she asked.
"No." he answered.
Pingfan wanted to ask more questions but a social worker interfered, stopped the interview and took the boy away.
"We have just heard from one of the children that have been rescued, he has been a child laborer on the Chu tea plantation for three years and he has no idea who his family is or where they are. He looks malnourished and the clothes he adorns are torn and thin in this cold weather. Despite this, he and many other children have been forced to come out and work in this brutally cold weather.
Because of laws protecting minors, I am prohibited by child services from talking to any of the other children right now. However I will return with more updates on the rescued children.
Reporting for Phoenix TV Mo Pingfan"
The news desk returned and the female anchor said, "This is truly a dark day in our empire, but the story is more gruesome than you have heard."
"Yes, " her male co-anchor stepped in and said, "It has come to our attention that the Chu family patriarch and members of the Chu family are not the only ones who have been visiting the plantation, one of our empire’s widely known and benevolent individuals, doctor Li has been a frequent visitor at the plantation.
He made his name known by performing hundreds of free organ transplants every year for the less fortunate in our society and paying the bills out of his own pocket. However, we have been told that there is a more sinister side to him and doubts about the organs he transplanted.
Our reporter Ju Cai-yin has more on the story."
Reporter Ju Cai-Yin was walking as she said, "I am standing at the East side of the plantation, behind me you can see another building which is unmarked and has no relation to the tea making process.
A while ago, police received a report that in this building which serves as a private hospital, illegal transplant surgeries have been conducted for so many years. Some of the recipients of these surgeries have been people of power and influence in our empire. Others were simply wealthy and some just desperate to live."
She entered inside the building and showed her press ID badge to the officers at the door.
Indeed, on the inside, the building was like a hospital with private wards, operation rooms and staff dressed like nurses and doctors.
There were medical equipment of all types and medicines.
"The police are arresting all the workers of this illegal hospital, as you can see. Many are shouting their claims of innocence while others are hiding their faces. The biggest surprise is the large refrigerated room behind me; we have been stopped from going inside however I have confirmed with my own eyes that thousands of organs like hearts, kidneys, livers, eyes and lungs have been carefully stored inside.
In the morgue to the extreme end, dead bodies are being wheeled out by the NFI [National forensic Institute.]
We have been stopped from reaching that far but I am sure you can all see the black bags being carried out. According to rumor around which has not yet been officially confirmed by the NFI, the bodies are all missing organs.
It is said, that Doctor Li Mo is the head of this hospital and he has been showing up to this place daily and some of the victims that were held prisoner here with their organs scheduled to be removed are calling him a butcher.
With the number of dead being carried out at twenty three so far, one can only imagine the horrors that have taken place in this building; I will continue to give you updates as the story unfolds.
Reporting for Phoenix TV, Ju Cai-Yun."
