Chapter 323: Nobody eats

"Oh!" Mama Chi exclaimed, "Sorry we should have served you some refreshments." She said and she laughed a little bit. "Is anyone else hungry?"

More than five hands went up, especially the younger ones.

"Sorry, we were all too nervous about today’s events to have breakfast." Wang Tong explained. "And after everything that we discovered nobody could possibly think about food."

Mama Chi nodded, understanding where her niece was coming from. From the events that had been narrated to her, the Wang family meeting was called early in the morning. It was not unfathomable for all these people to actually be hungry.

"Let’s go to the dining room, I will go to the kitchen and work on something quick." She pushed Madam An’s wheelchair out to ensure that everyone followed her.

Chi Lian and her brothers were the last to leave the living room and as they walked slowly, they discussed what had just happened in low voices.

"See," Chi Zimo went first, "I told you that it was not our decision to make and you kept it away from her. Next time you should listen to me, I am more knowledgeable than I look."

Chi Wei rolled his eyes and scoffed.

"Chi Wei, how could you throw me under the bus like that by announcing that I investigated everything?" Chi Lian asked him with a look of betrayal on her face.

"Sister I didn’t mean it that way, sorry." He apologized with helpless dopey smile on his face. He resembled Blackguard after he had been caught stealing food from the fridge. It made her want to laugh more than anything.

"Ho, I can’t even stay mad at you." She said and sighed.

"At least everything has ended on a positive note." Chi Rui joined the conversation as they approached the dining room. "This could have gone either way. To be honest, I was kind of expecting mother to throw them out."

"No way, mother has a soft heart you know." Chi Lian disagreed with him immediately.

Chi Zimo asked a question which had crossed all of their minds at one point but had yet to be said. "What do you think is going to happen next? Will mother be changing her name to Wang Nuo and officially join the Wang family?"

"That’s a given, haven’t you seen madam An’s tremendous love for our mother?" Chi Wei asked. "Besides it’s her right to be officially recognized as a member of the Wang family. As for that aunt that threw mother to the Li’s she better pray that I never meet her or else I will cripple her permanently to avenge mother and madam An."

Chi Wei’s words gave Chi Lian an idea because while it was impossible for him to do it, it was different for her who had the means and the strength to carry out the revenge.

"Shouldn’t we start calling madam An grandmother?" Chi Zimo asked.

"It will make mother happy, right?" Chi Rui asked.

They had fully arrived at the dining room and her brothers went inside while she went to the kitchen to see if her mother needed help.

When she pushed the door open, she almost tripped over blackguard who was sleeping in the entrance to the kitchen.

"What is going on blackguard, why are you here?" she asked the oversized dog in a puzzled voice.

Blackguard looked at the chef and barked twice then he whined pitifully, stood up and came over to rub his head against her like a child who had been wronged and they were reporting the offender to their parent.

"Who has upset my baby?" she asked while she rubbed his head.

Blackguard whined and looked in the chef’s direction again. From his actions, she assumed that his unhappiness had come from the chef who was glaring at Blackguard in return every once in a while.

"What happened here?" she asked the closest maid.

"The chef has said that he is not giving in to Blackguard’s intimidation today and he will not be giving him any snacks or food. Blackguard has refused to leave no matter how much the chef glares at him, instead he blocked the exit. If I didn’t know any better I would think he is saying ’if I don’t eat, nobody will eat.’"

After hearing Chi Lian’s explanation, Chi Lian wanted to tell the maid you don’t know how right you are. Blackguard understood human speech really well and he could express himself intelligently even though he could not talk.

"Chi-Chi, take him out, all the maids in here are frightfully huddling in the corner and I need them to start carrying the tea and snacks out." Her mother said while pointing a spatula at Blackguard. "He ate in the morning why is he pretentiously acting as if he is starving now?"

Blackguard whined and rubbed his head against Chi Lian’s thigh as if to defend himself against the accusations that he was pretending.

"Mother, maybe his wife is hungry, she is pregnant you know. And look at his size; he needs to eat at least four meals a day."

Mama Chi frowned at her daughter and said sarcastically, "Four meals a day, is he training to be a heavy weight champion? You have really spoilt him Chi-Chi, and that little White knight is following in his footsteps. The only well behaved dogs in this house are Popcorn and Blackguard’s wife. Why am I arguing, someone should just give him food, we will not win against him anyway. "

The kitchen door was opened and madam An, Wang Tong and Wang Xue came in with little smiles on their faces.

"Eh, mother why are you here? Are we taking too long?" Mama Chi asked slightly panicked.

"No way sister, we have come to see if you need any help in here." Wang Xue said eagerly. "Mother does not want to be away from you for more than five minutes."

Mama Chi smiled happily. "Mother," she said softly, "I have everything handled in here; we are just waiting for the last batch of crispy rice paper dumplings."

Blackguard barked twice at the mention of crispy rice dumplings.

The three women who had just walked in had not seen the very large dog and it drew their attention when it barked.

"Three, two, one." T4 counted down in Chi Lian’s mind.

"Aaaaaaaah." Joint screams from Wang Tong and Wang Xue rung throughout the kitchen.

Everyone silently waited for them to finish screaming because they were used to this reaction from women who met Blackguard. Men usually jumped away and cursed but they did not scream.

For this reason Chi Lian was surprised to see Madam An remain so composed.

"Sister, what....what kind of dog is this?" Wang Xue asked.

"A German shepherd, I have never seen one as large this though." Madam An answered her daughter and she wheeled herself close and touched Blackguard’s head cautiously.

"It does not scare you?" Chi Lian asked.

"All of you would not be here if it was dangerous, besides it did not even look twice at us this whole time. All of its attention is on your chef." Madam An explained.

Mama Chi looked at one of the maids and said, "Prepare food for Blackguard, add three rice dumplings for him. And prepare a small bowl for White knight just in case,"

That business was quickly taken care and Blackguard made it a point to bark victoriously and giving the chef a challenging look before leaving.

"Madam, Blackguard just looked down on me right?" the chef asked.

"What are you talking about? It’s just a dog, you are imagining things." Mama Chi responded.

The chef refused to believe her, turning to the sous chef he asked, "You saw it, right? It barked at me and looked at me condescendingly. I am not making this up, all of you saw it." His lamentations were met with denial from every corner.
