Chapter 275: The lawyers!!!
The next day, Chi Lian who had been out past midnight slept in lazily like a pig. No matter how many times her mother knocked on her door, complained and threatened to give her a beating, she would not be moved.
She woke up at eleven, showered, grabbed a snack and off to the police station she went followed by the large army of lawyers which she had stated so many times was unnecessary but her brother, parents and Muyang had insisted upon hiring.
At the police station, even the officer who was simply questioning her was flabbergasted. This was not a criminal trial or questioning so why had she come in with five lawyers from five different law firms in the capital.
These were not just any lawyers; they were top lawyers and legal experts in criminal law, hiring one of them even for an hour cost up to two hundred thousand Yuan. Just how well connected was this Miss Chi? These lawyers were all dressed expensively in black suits with shiny shoes and spotless black briefcases. One would think they were on their way to a shady mafia meeting.
When Chi Lian noticed that the officer was looking more and more nervous with each second that passed, she decided to do him a favor and open her mouth first.
"I was told to come in so that you could speak to me about my car which was involved in an accident." She said with a polite smile on her face.
The officer nervously rummaged through paper work on his desk and it took a tumble.
"Sorry, sorry," he apologized clumsily as he picked it up. His fellow detectives in the station looked at him pitifully and they quickly looked away. None of them wanted to be in his shoes.
In such cases, the person being questioned rarely said a word; it was always the lawyers who talked and they were cagey and hostile. And if you said one wrong thing and offended the wrong person, you would be scolded by your superiors.
Chi Lian sighed and replied, "Don’t be nervous, I am not the one who crushed the car. Aren’t I here to just confirm if it’s my car?"
"My client will not be answering any unnecessary questions. Whatever you ask should only be in reference to the car and nothing else. If you attempt to threaten my client we will sue the entire police department for wrongful persecution." One of the lawyers said immediately.
Not to be outdone by the competition, another lawyer said, "This is documented proof that my client was out of the city when the accident happened."
Another one said, "This is also video proof showing how the accident went down. As you can see my client’s car was totaled by what appears to be a drunk driver."
She covered her eyes with her hands, these lawyers had come fully prepared and covered all their bases like merchants of death. Nothing was getting past them legal wise.
"Nobody is accusing Miss Chi of anything, we just wasn’t to know if there was a prior disagreement with the driver of the truck. We need to determine if this was an accident or attempted murder. As you know, there were three people in the car, two men and a child.
We have spoken to the men and they said they rushed away from the scene of the accident because they were worried about the child’s health.
The man who knocked into them is looking to settle with the victims and close the case but they said you make all the decisions when it comes to this." The detective explained to Chi Lian.
"Are you willing to settle?" he asked her.
Chi Lian checked in her bag and brought out an envelope. As she was handing it to the detective, one of the lawyers touched her arm and took the envelope away.
One by one, the lawyers examined the contents of the envelope first before handing it back to the detective.
"Oh my God." Chi Lian was amazed at how thorough the lawyers were. Nothing was getting past them.
"The contents of this envelope are nothing but hypothetical if they in anyway connect my client to the accident." One of the lawyers said.
"Whatever my client says in relation to the photographs cannot be used legally in any court without our say so." Another lawyer said.
The detective wanted to take tape in his desk out and seal the lips of these lawyers. Miss Chi had not even explained anything and already they were distancing her from the whole thing.
"Miss Chi, please explain." The detective said as he looked at the photographs.
"A few days after I returned, I received these photographs and a message that said these men had been trailing my car for days. I have no idea who they are or what they want from me. However I think it’s not a coincidence that after trailing my car for days, it ends up being totaled while the same men are parked a distance away." She answered.
"Do you have the message?" the detective asked.
Of course she did, T4 the little faker had already sent it when she came up with the plan to get the police involved in the case first. Her reason for doing so was simply to delay the enemy and make them feel safe.
If they knew that she had reported the case to the police, they would back off her first to avoid suspicion and further enquiry. She in return would get time to look into them.
"Do you have any enemies who would want to harm you?" the detective asked seriously.
If this was no longer an accident but attempted murder then then everything had changed, he had to be hyper vigilant about every little detail.
Chi Lian laughed and replied, "I own a television network, I am sure I have made some enemies because of the news. Sometimes, a small difference in opinion can be deadly."
"Oh yes, you own phoenix media. Has the company or yourself received any threats?" the detective asked.
"You will have to check with the PR department for that." She replied.
"What about your personal life, is there anybody..."
"Her personal life is not up for discussion until she has cleared it with me. My client could reveal information here that could harm her or her family later on and that is not allowed." One of the lawyers quickly stopped the detective’s line of questioning.
The detective stabbed his pen onto his table; he was just trying to do his job! Lawyers were so frustrating.
"I believe we are done with the exchange of information detective, you know everything my client knows. Now if we can sign some paperwork that shows you took her statement and aid her in settling her insurance quickly we will be very grateful." The lawyer Muyang hired for her said.
She knew it was him because she had discussed the insurance issue with Muyang. The insurance company had not yet contacted her even though T4 said he had filed for compensation already.
In less than forty minutes, she was in and out of the police station. After thanking the lawyers for their hard work, she was driven to the company.
