Chapter 254: Searching for treasure
Chapter 254: Searching for treasure
She thought maybe she would feel the cold once she landed into the water and she steeled herself for that inevitable chill but it felt so warm, as if she had just jumped into a Jacuzzi with warm water bubbling all around her.
It was so comfortable in the water that she just wanted to swim around lazily and stay in there for a full day if it was possible. Was this how fish felt all the time?
"T4, this suit may be the best thing your world has ever created." She said joyfully.
"I beg to differ host, this suit is nothing extraordinary, it’s something used by marine ecologists to study the underwater life. Your earth is just backward when it comes to technology, perhaps you could learn something new from this suit."
Chi Lian rolled her eyes, this was a compliment. Did he have to bring in all that your world backward my world awesome stuff?
She stopped swimming around and dived deeper into the water with T4 pointing out which direction she should take. She came across a school of tiny fish that was swimming in one direction and she played around with them for a while.
In her head, Chi Lian was thinking that if mermaids were real, this was probably how they spent their time. Just like in the movie, swimming around and talking to fish, it was too bad that these fish could not talk. In fact, the fish she was paying with were desperately trying to avoid her because they were afraid of her.
"Host, please leave the fish alone." T4 said in a complaining tone.
She laughed and continued on with her journey. With her speed, she soon reached the wreckage that T4 had discovered earlier. It was parts of a ship, one whose parts were mostly made of wood and metal from the looks of things.
There was a rusted anchor with a long chain that was just floating by and each time it tapped the old metal, a hollow sound was made.
This was probably what made people think that the unfrozen lake was haunted; the sound reminded her of a wailing ghost in a horror movie.
She swam around the wreckage slowly, touching anything that she saw with fascination in her eyes and when she was done looking at the outside, she swam into the inside of whatever had remained of the ship.
"T4, is there anything inside here that is worthy of my time." She asked.
She did not want to just swim around randomly and waste her time. She had not come down here to look at the green plants which were somehow growing inside of parts of the wreckage.
"Down there host, I see a whole bunch of glittering coins and what appears to be a pearl." T4 answered.
She swam to the torn apart bottom part of the ship and discovered the glittering coins which T4 had pointed out. They were old gold coins, she could not guess which year they belonged to but she could only assume that they were valuable so T4 scanned them all and they disappeared into her storage.
There was some broken porcelain here and there; it looked like a set of vases, cups and plates which had been damaged.
"T4, can these be fixed." She asked.
If they could be fixed, she would not leave them behind. Her family lacked treasures like this and after seeing the collection Muyang’s family had, she wanted to start a collection of antiques for her own family.
"They can be fixed host but I am not sure how much fixing can be done. For now, we can collect the items and worry about fixing them later."
Into her storage all the porcelain went. Lastly, she found a shiny round black pearl which had a green glow in a small bag with other pearls beneath the scraps of porcelain; it was the only lighting in the wreckage, like a beacon in the dark. In the beginning her eyes mistook it for a mirror reflection of an ordinary pearl.
She held it in her hands and observed it carefully. It was no pearl like she had ever seen. "T4 can you identify this?"
"Scanning." T4’s voice sounded like an automated machine each time he said scanning. "Host you are holding what is described as a natural night luminescent or luminous pearl. It’s something of a myth and folk tale existence. Many of them have been artificially manufactured and they go for around four thousand Yuan."
"Four thousand Yuan!!!" Chi Lian pursed her lips and raised her hand, ready to throw the worthless night pearl back into the water.
She had been expecting T4 to say one million Yuan and above but his valuation of the pearl was sadly even lower than she anticipated.
"Host what are you doing?" T4 questioned her in alarmed tone.
"I am throwing the worthless pearl back where I found it. What am I going to use it for, to decorate my night stand?"
"Are you nuts? I said artificially manufactured night pearls, this is a natural one, and why are you in such a rush to do something foolish like throwing away a natural night luminous pearl, one that has existed for hundreds of years? T4 loudly questioned her.
If he had a way, he would have physically shown up in front of her and ripped the pearl out of her hands.
Now that she knew it was valuable, Chi Lian sent the pearl to her storage immediately. It would be a gift for her daughter. Mei-Mei loved shiny objects; maybe this pearl could be passed down in the family from mothers to daughters.
Suddenly, something quickly passed by and brushed past her. She did not even see what it was; all she saw was a blur.
Her heartbeat spiked because of fear that came so naturally.
"T4, what was that?" she asked.
She even took her smart gun from storage; she was not going to allow herself to become fertilizer down here.
"Chi-Chi, your heartbeat has spiked, are you okay down there? Should I send in a rescue team?" Muyang’s anxious voice came from her smart watch.
"Host it’s a ghost fish, don’t worry but you should probably leave the area soon." T4 answered before she could reply to Muyang.
Taking T4’S advice, she swam away from the wreckage as quickly as she could. Ghost fish had the word ’ghost’ in it. If there was something which frightened her, it was stories about ghosts.
"Muyang I am okay, a silly fish just scared me." She answered.
T4 snorted and chortled. "A silly fish!" he exclaimed, "You almost peed your pants because you were so scared."
Chi Lian refused to respond to his ridiculous claims. She made her way to the cave carefully sinceT4 did not know what was in there.
