Chapter 253: Bribe or coercion
Four more fun filled days filled with adventure went by so quickly and the family of four eventually went out on the water on one of Muyang’s boats to tour the unfrozen lake. The lake was one of the more rare sights in the empire because it never froze, not even in the winter.
This was because of volcanic activity deep in the lake that provided heat which prevented the lake from freezing.
This was the first trip of the children on a boat and they were quite excited. Chi Lian was also excited because she couldn’t wait for T4 to scan the lake and see if there was anything like treasure in it.
In the meantime, she was confused about why Muyang and little monk seemed to be holding some kind of stare off. Chi Lian could not help but wonder what had gone down between father and son. Did they argue?
Little monk was not yet vocal, how could he possibly argue with his father? Maybe she was over analyzing the situation and reading too much into it.
What she did not know however was that father and son were indeed engaged in a silent battle of wits which the father was not willing to lose.
Muyang was frustrated because little monk kept interfering with his night time plans. Ever since the trip started, little monk would kick up a fuss at night which resulted into him sharing a bed with them at night.
It seemed to be harmless in the beginning but after a while, Muyang realized that his son was perhaps calculative. He was out to sabotage him!!!
That’s why he and little monk were having a face to face; Muyang wanted his son to explain his behavior. On the boat, the two of them were sitting close, looking into each other’s eyes.
"My baby, why are you sabotaging me like this?" Muyang asked little monk.
Since little monk still refused to communicate verbally for an unknown reason, Muyang had to resort to studying his face for cues.
Little monk was pretentiously looking away from his father but the little sly smile on his cute face was so obvious.
"Listen to me my Junior Muyang; I know that you can understand most of what I say. Our family can only stay together and happy if I keep your mummy happy. So, I beg you my darling son to sleep in your own bed. Have mercy on your father, hmm."
Muyang’s strategy was to tug at the heartstrings of his son’s heart. Little monk was overly attached to Chi Lian so he hoped this would work. If it failed, bribery was next on his list.
While Muyang dealt with his negotiations, Chi Lian was pretending to read something on her phone as she and T4 set out to work.
"A little patience host, you can’t rush perfection." The system complained because every few seconds Chi Lian would ask if it had discovered anything yet.
"Now you know what It feels like to be all those times on missions when you would be harping away host this, host that every few seconds." She mimicked his voice as best as she could.
"I don’t harp." T4 grumbled.
"No, you nag, like an old woman." She mumbled.
"Host you are not allowed to insult the system, keep it up and I will stop scanning." T4 threatened.
Chi Lian quickly shut up, it was best not to offend this bringer of good fortune.
This search for wealth in bodies of water would be much more successful in the sea or the ocean. She was not very hopeful about finding treasure in this lake.
"Host there appears to be remnants of an old sunken ship; it was probably dragged here from somewhere else. I can see a lot of volcanic rocks; these will be good for that spa of yours because they can naturally heat up the water.
I also see deposits of minerals like diamonds, lead and zinc. I have to say, it’s surprising that nobody is excavating this lake for its mineral deposits.
I can also see some bones deep down in the lake and there is a cave which I can’t scan but it connects to all the way the little island over there. The search will be much easier in the summer, everything will be much clearer then."
Once T4 confirmed that there was treasure in the lake, Chi Lian was ready to dive in. But first, she checked her phone for any information related to mining in the unfrozen lake.
It was indeed surprising that nobody was doing any mining activity of any kind in the lake.
According to information she found, all sorts of mining and excavations in the unfrozen lake were forbidden because the sunken volcano was once active. Experts were worried that too much digging and drilling could trigger the volcano to erupt.
"Damn, there goes my plan to drill for those diamonds." She sulked.
Before her eyes, she could see a diamond waving goodbye to her while laughing victoriously.
"Host, have you forgotten about this almighty system? All the equipment you need if you want to carefully dig up some diamonds is in the mall."
It was a good plan but not one she was ready to use at the moment because they were not the only people out on the water. The unfrozen lake was a tourist attraction; people came out here for fun on the boats in the winter.
Some of them even dived into the lake despite the cold and the fact that it was not advisable. She did not need any of these people getting a whiff of what she wanted to do.
"I think I should take a look at the remnants of the ship and the cave first." She suggested.
When she received that submarine, she bought a very expensive scuba diving suit and gear from the mall. It came with oxygen that could cover her for twenty four hours and it was made from material that would keep her warm for that same duration of time.
There were pockets on its side for small weapons in case she runs into danger in the water.
She went inside, changed into her scuba outfit and returned to inform Muyang about her little impromptu trip under the water which she was sure he would not like.
Father and son were still locked in conversation but they appeared to be smiling.
"Muyang, I am going to join the divers for a while." Chi Lian approached them and pointed to the divers who were having fun in the lake.
"No, it’s too risky." Muyang shook his head.
"Do you think I am that careless? I am going to be gone for a short period of time. I am testing out this new diving gear, what do you think?"
She was hoping to distract him with her question about her scuba suit and diving equipment.
"It’s too cold out Chi-Chi; did you make all the appropriate preparations before deciding to embark on this?"
"I prepared myself better than a squirrel hiding nuts away for the winter." She told him.
Muyang had known Chi Lian for a while now and he knew that once her mind was made up, it could not be changed again. She was determined to go diving it seemed.
At least there were other people in the water that were diving so she would not be alone.
"Muyang, our smart watches are connected, you can monitor my heart beat and other vitals from here. Don’t worry, I will be back in an hour or less." She assured him.
She kissed him on the lips quickly and kissed little monk on the cheek. Mei-Mei was sleeping inside; the fan from the previous day had exhausted her.
Chi Lian smiled and waved to her two darlings who were watching her and she jumped into the water.
