Chapter 220: HTV plans to copy
Suddenly Chi Lian frowned. If there was one thing she absolutely detested when it came to her business, it was being blackmailed or someone behaving in a manner that screamed entitled. She had almost turned the princess away because of this.
"Miss Gu, if you think you can make it into my company by blackmailing me with whatever ace you have up your sleeve I can assure you that I will have you thrown out faster than yesterday’s trash." She warned Gu Xixi coldly.
After being with Muyang for a while, she had adopted some of his mannerisms. The cold look on her face was threatening and piercing.
Gu Xixi had been around enough boardrooms to know that Chi Lian meant every word she had just said.
"I did not mean to blackmail you, I simply mentioned that I have an ace up my sleeve, I certainly won’t use it to gain the job, I have seen what a position given just to shut someone up does. If I come into this company using such vile ways I am sure you will tell your people to freeze me out. I want to work here because you find me deserving of the job." She responded with unease but in a determined voice.
"Then give it up immediately, the ace." Chi Lian responded flatly, her face unchanged.
Gu Xixi sighed and said, "You either have a mole in your company or a blabber mouth. Before I resigned from HTV, there was a plan to launch two new shows. One of them was ’tea with the people’s princess and the other a cooking show where a celebrity picks one lucky fan every week and cooks for them."
Chi Lian found herself laughing mockingly. Not at Gu Xixi but at HTV. Could they really not come up with their own concepts? Tea with the people’s princess, how ridiculous!!! Everyone would see from a mile away that it was a copy and paste of tea with the princess.
"I assure you Miss Chi; there is nothing funny about this situation. They are pulling all the stops out, there is a rumor that they want to recruit Yan Daya as the host of the show. She is not called an angel for no reason; she is unnaturally beautiful, from a wealthy aristocratic background, owns a modeling company and sits on the board of many charities. To so many people in the empire, she has a better reputation than the actual hot headed princess. If they go through with it the way they have planned, people will talk but they will still watch the show. You will notice a significant dip in the ratings of tea with the princess."
Chi Lian leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms. She contemplated silently for a while then she used the phone on the table to call Wenli to her office.
Wenli was in there within less than a minute. Chi Lian told Gu Xixi to repeat what she had just told her. After Wenli catching up, Chi Lian asked her," What do you think?"
Wenli said, "It will truly have a significant effect on our ratings however Miss Yan is not a simpleton. Just look at all the publicity around her, It’s nothing but positive. Her image has been carefully cultivated and tightly controlled. She will never accept their offer and the biggest reason is that while she may be from an aristocratic family, she is not royalty. The princess may be rash and hot headed but she is the emperor’s daughter. Yan Daya calling herself the people’s princess is literally slapping the face of the emperor and the royal family, she will not allow such a thing to happen, let alone the Yan family. Besides popularity polls recently taken show that the reputation of the princess has grown positively by leaps and bounds since she became a host on Phoenix television, all we have to do now is get her to do some charity work which will touch the people’s hearts. We can snatch the title of people’s princess before they launch their copy cat show."
"I like her strategy, but if you do it so obviously, people will know that she is faking it. It needs to be real." Gu Xixi suggested, acting as though she was already a permanent member of staff in the company.
A sudden wail took her attention away from the meeting. She rushed to the partition where her children were. This time round, little monk was the one crying because Mei-Mei had sunk her small teeth into his arm.
"Mei-Mei, why are you biting your brother?" she asked sternly immediately. "Let go of him." She approached them and forced Mei-Mei to relinquish little Monk’s arm.
Mei-Mei also started crying aggrievedly while pointing at little monk. Chi Lian was confused, what had happened in here? Who should she comfort the most and who was the wrong doer?
"T4, check the camera footage in here and tell me what happened."
"I don’t need to check host, Muyang’s favorite princess tried to take the Rubik’s cube forcefully and when little monk would not give it up, she resorted to using her teeth. She is such a feisty little thing." T4 answered.
Chi Lian looked at Mei-Mei and said, "No biting. If you bite your brother again I will..." she couldn’t come up with a good punishment at the moment.
If she took her toys away her very large overly pleasing family would probably sneakily buy her double of whatever toys she had.
"Wenli, how do people teach toddlers to behave?" she asked as she came out of the partition with the two babies.
Wenli who was a year younger than Chi Lian was also confused so the two women looked at Gu Xixi who was older than them.
Gu Xixi looked to her left and right. She too was looking for the person they were looking at that. She sighed after she realized it was her they were looking at.
"Don’t look at me I have no children of my own." She mumbled.
"I will check on the internet." Wenli said and she switched on the tablet she always walked around with.
While she was trying to make the babies calm down, Shuli’s voice came through the intercom, "Miss, your second brother is here to see you."
She realized the topic being discussed would have to be put on hold. "Send him in." she said to Shuli. Then she told Wenli, "Escort miss Gu to the ED office you prepared."
"So I got the job." Gu Xixi looked at her excitedly.
"Yes, but temporarily, I will evaluate you after three months, then six months. If you successfully contribute to the growth of the company in six months, you will be named permanent executive director of Phoenix media." Chi Lian answered her sincerely with a smile.
Gu Xixi needed to know that if she messed up, she would be out of the door immediately.
"Thank you so much." Gu Xixi bowed over and over again. "I really won’t let you down." She said earnestly.
Chi Lian nodded and Wenli took the still bowing and excited Gu Xixi out of the office.
AS they were leaving, Chi Rui came striding in. "Hey boss." He joked and fell into one of the sofas in her office head first.
"What now?" Chi Lian asked. "Who messed up?" she knew Chi Rui’s someone has created a mess and I am not happy about it face.
