Chapter 165: Their first assignment
Now was not the time to check on the mission. First she had to conclude the business with her new team.
"Follow me to your new headquarters." She told them and led them out of the office. Wenli closely followed behind them.
She took them to one of the floors which were meant to be used for Phoenix tech. Pushing the main door open, she led the group of seven into one of the main empty rooms.
"As you can see, it’s still empty. The entire floor is yet to be decorated or partitioned. You will be working from here under the guise of a technology company. Of course, if some of you are actually skilled in technology then you will have to work for real. For example code is good with computers, perhaps you can design a game." She suggested the easiest example she could think of.
Code looked very excited. Perhaps the young boy had such dreams but the lack of funds, education and connections discouraged him.
"We have two more tech savvy people besides Code." Old Tiger informed her proudly.
"Very good." Chi Lian looked at old tiger approvingly. The man had cultivated some talented young ones it seemed. "You will decorate these offices how you see fit, I will provide all the money and equipment you will need. When you go home tonight, make a list."
"Thank you." Old tiger said.
She led them to the floor above that one. It was being turned into apartments and they were almost finished. They were spacious and beautiful, living here would be a wonderful privilege. The only downside to these apartments was there lack of balconies. The view from high up overlooking the city was beautiful; it was too bad that they would not be able to sit outside and enjoy it.
"You can move in here over the weekend. I think the apartments will be finished by then. I will provide you with a bank card; you can buy furniture and decorate how you see fit. I intend to secure the doors leading to these floors heavily; the only people with access should be you, me, Wenli, and my family members. I don’t want strangers infiltrating this place." She warned them sternly. "If someone would prefer to live elsewhere I will gladly provide an apartment later but for now, I need you in a place where I can easily watch and access you."
Perhaps they would not be very comfortable with the arrangement but they worked for her now so they had to follow her rules.
"Boss, the rest of the team can live here comfortably but we have six girls of school going age. Four are sixteen and two are fourteen, I don’t think they should live here." One of the men said. The tips of his hair were dyed blonde which made him unforgettable.
Chi Lian looked at him and asked, "What’s your name?"
He scratched his head, blushed and said, "Baby mouse."
"What?" she asked in shock. She was not the only one in shock, even Wenli was giggling after hearing his name. Looking at old tiger, she asked, "Are most of you named after animals?"
"Yes boss, it makes it easy to operate secretly in public and no one reveals their real identity this way." Old tiger retorted slightly embarrassed.
Chi Lian laughed a bit and said, "Well I expect to see a file with pictures, special skills and real names alongside code names. It was quite a smart strategy though, using code names.
She told old tiger to buy a house and hire a nanny to take care of the young girls. She also told him to gather the entire group in this house after its purchase so that she could meet them all officially."
"Now your first assignment, I want you to break into this hospital and bring me any files related to Chi Lian."
She noticed the questioning look in the team’s eyes. They probably learned her name from Kiki. They were probably wondering why she wanted them to steal her file. Was it some kind of dummy test?
"Yes, it’s my file. This person here betrayed me a few years ago and I just recently learned about it." Wenli handed her a file with the doctor’s details and face and she distributed a copy to each team member. "I want soft copies and hard copies of my files and a list of every client of this hospital for two years after I visited it. However, I don’t just want the files, I want the doctor as well." She looked at them seriously. "If you don’t have any knock out powder I can provide some for you."
Wenli handed her a bag and she gave it to old tiger.
"In here are passes that will grant you entrance into the catacombs, when you get there go to the alley behind studio six and enter an old antique shop. I bought the shop yesterday so you don’t have to worry about anyone questioning you. "She gave him a key to the antique shop whose purchase was handled by Wenli. The owner had happily sold it to them, probably because all the antiques in the shop were fake.
"Behind the shelf with the Buddha statue is a door which will lead you to a tunnel. Follow the tunnel all the way to a door which will grant you access to a basement using this magnetic card. When you enter the basement, send me a text and stay in there with the good doctor until I come to you. Are my instructions clear?" she asked.
"Yes boss." They responded together.
"I will give you the antidote to cure your senior brother after the success of the mission." She employed the carrot and stick strategy.
The magnetic card and door were security measures she had put in place with T4’s help. Nobody in the world could open the door without that card. She had even installed a small camera high above in the corner so that she could see if someone else tried to access her house through the tunnel.
The basement itself was also renovated. It was now a lab/training room/ prison cell of sorts. It’s large size was a welcome bonus so she intended to add some sleeping rooms and a bathroom for her team members who needed to hide or hold an enemy prisoner.
She gave old tiger a bank card with fifty million for everything and sent him off. Tonight’s performance would determine whether this group of people could be utilized or not.
She returned to her office where Wenli delivered her lunch that she ate without gusto.
"Huh," she sighed, "When is the company cafeteria opening? This food had a certain lacking quality to it. After eating food from the virtual farm, her taste buds were quite picky.
As she ate, she swiped the screen to see the details of her mission.
’A paparazzo cannot just chase stars; they should also catch murderers, expose them and contribute to the safety of the nation. Find the Serial killer known as the ’sleeping terror’ and bring them to justice paparazzo style. You have a week to finish the mission.’
"Great now I have to chase and photograph serial killers. What if the killer kills me?" She mumbled unhappily.
