Chapter 163: What do people do on dates?
The cars swiftly left the military compound just as quickly as they had come in. The only difference was that they left the compound with a prisoner who was bound and gagged on his way to a dark cell to experience starvation for a few days.
How could he claim to have looked out for Mei-Mei when he never even bothered to tell the authorities that doctor Ouyang was not her biological father after his death. He did not even think to inform the biological family that their child was missing. What exactly did he think that young baby was doing to survive after the death of her parents?
He would be released eventually but only after a thorough investigation into the lab and its handling of such samples was be done. Who knew if the doctors all helped themselves to other samples at will or misappropriated the lab funds.
While Muyang now had an answer about how Mei-Mei came to be his biological daughter, he was stuck on the part of Chi Lian’s possibility as Mei-Mei’s mother. If she was the one indeed, how did the professor’s wife get her hands on her eggs?
He checked his phone and saw that she had sent him a text. He smiled slightly when he read that she loved the flowers and wanted to go on a date tonight.
He replied, "Pick you up."
After sending the text, he looked at Wenzhe and asked, "Wenzhe, what do people do on dates these days?"
"Eh," Wenzhe was caught unawares. He was a single man who had not been on a date in two years because work had become his unofficial girlfriend. Was the young master deliberately asking this to remind him of his pitiful single life? "Uhm, I don’t know young master."
"Hmph, then what do you know?" Muyang asked in a displeased tone.
"I can search the internet and see what’s trending when it comes to dates lately." Wenzhe pulled out his phone eagerly and started a search. "Young master, you can go on a hike, pottery making, swimming, take a food tour in the night market, sky diving, helicopter tour of the city. You can also book a private dinner with a famous musician to sing for you."
Muyang listened as Wenzhe read different ideas of a date off his phone. He tried to see which idea was viable.
"The food tour thing, where can we do it from?" he asked after clearing his throat. His little minx did like food.
"Uhm, the night market, but I don’t know if it’s your kind of scenery young master. "
"It will do," he said determinedly, "send me a list of which places to check out."
In a meeting with her employees, Chi Lian was fighting the urge to check her phone and see if Muyang had finally replied. She had been waiting for him a response to her date text for hours.
"I think we should do it this way, right boss?" one of the producers asked.
"Hmm," she responded absentmindedly.
"Great," the producer was excited, "I will come up with a written plan and send the budget to accounting immediately."
Chi Lian was slightly confused, of all the things that had been discussed, what exactly had she agreed to?
"Why do you need the money?" she asked for clarity.
Everyone in the meeting looked at her worriedly, had she changed her mind. Would they need to rack their heads and come up with new plans?
The producer cautiously responded, "It’s to pay the celebrities, the chef and buy food items before the show begins airing."
He explained but she was still lost. It was better to dismiss them and end the meeting rather than humiliate herself. She knew that Wenli had been recording and taking notes. She would give her an update privately in her office.
"I am sure we are all exhausted, it has been two hours. Let’s end the meeting here, please send more of your suggestions to assistant Wenli, she will sort them out and present them to me."
She left the room first, followed by Wenli closely. In her office, the first thing she did was to check her phone. Muyang had agreed to the date and he would be picking her up.
"Yes," she shouted excitedly causing Wenli to look at her quizzically.
She then cleared her throat, sat in her chair and asked her, "What exactly did I agree to in there?"
Wenli replied, "You agreed to approve the budget for producer Duze’s new variety show ’who is coming for dinner?’"
"What is it about?" she was genuinely curiously.
"A celebrity and an expert chef show up to the home of a lucky fan and cook for them a meal. Fans must apply to the program giving reasons why they should be chosen. Each season would have twelve episodes. So far, all he has is a general idea and nothing concrete."
"Hmm, what do you think?" she wanted to know what Wenli’s idea about the show was. It was better to hear from someone that understood the empire and its culture more than she did.
Wenli took a sit in the sofa and said, "I think the idea is feasible. For one, you own an entertainment company and you wanted the big chef to host a cooking show. The idea cuts across all those things, if it’s done well the celebrities and the big chef will gain more exposure."
"Cons." She asked.
"Not many celebrities know how to cook and some fans are not true fans but stalkers. The environment under which the show is shot will have to be tightly controlled to prevent accidents. I also think it would be better for the fan to come to an apartment we have selected and prepared rather than having a celebrity go to them. It will be very bad reputation wise if they show disgust in a fan’s home at certain things."
Chi Lian was impressed, in a short period of time Wenli had analyzed so many pros and cons already. It was a wise decision hiring her.
"Okay, thank you. Please have Shuli send in some tea and snacks, also send in those people that I asked to wait downstairs. They should use the private elevator. And get me another outfit, something I can comfortably wear on a date, and some sneakers just in case."
"Yes boss." Wenli left the office to accomplish her tasks.
The group of people waiting downstairs was none other than Kiki and five of her male siblings that wanted to meet her. They arrived within less than an hour of her giving them and address. It was plain to see how desperate they were to save their senior brother.
Shuli brought in one cup of tea and she told her to bring in six more.
Soon, the guests she was waiting for were brought to her office by Wenli. Kiki was the first to head in, followed by five men. Four were young, probably in their late teens and early twenties and one was significantly older, he appeared to be in his forties but he was rather sturdy and muscular. He had the frame of a body builder.
"Older sister." Kiki launched herself into her arms for a hug. "I missed you." The girl claimed.
"Oh, you little liar." She laughed and pinched Kiki’s cheeks. "Sit down and behave." She told the girl. She then asked the five men to sit down so that they could talk.
Shuli brought in tea, a small flask of milk and five packets of cookies on a tray. After she left, Chi Lian smiled at the men and asked, "So, who goes first, me or you?"
