Chapter 161: The search for answers 1
"Wenzhe, are you writing a novel?" Muyang switched Mei-Mei to another side of his body and patted her head for a bit when she complained.
"No, young master." Wenzhe replied while scratching his head.
"Then stop coming up with fiction and do as I order." Muyang said sternly. "Also order for a bouquet of orchids to be sent to Chi Lian tomorrow early in the morning before she gets to work, have one of the men deliver it. Include that large panda which I saw in the mall yesterday."
"Yes young master." Wenzhe replied and he turned back in front to face the road. However in his mind he was freaking out. That fiction that the young master asked if he was writing was officially on page ten. In his mind, he could picture the baby swap and the real young miss was probably suffering out there in a village in a poor family where she is being mistreated while this little miss enjoyed a life of luxury. He was even considering telling the old master about it since he was the old master’s spy. Logic however dictated that he wait until the DNA tests were out.
When he entered the house, Muyang asked the old master for the number of the researcher that had handled his sample.
"Why?" the old master asked.
"I just have some questions about something." He replied nonchalantly.
Because of his easy going attitude, the old master easily handed the number over assuming that Muyang had some new project he was working on and he needed the scientists help.
All night long, he was just as sleepless as Chi Lian. It was a new tradition for the Jun’s to rotate Mei-Mei sleeping schedule. If she slept with her great grandparents today, the next day it would be with He Weili and the other night it would be Muyang. It had been He Weili’s turn but Muyang swiftly took Mei-Mei upstairs and locked the door.
He ignored his mother’s furious banging and fake crying at his door. Ever since he found out that she was his, he strangely couldn’t stop looking at her. He was enamored of her. Every adorable snore, sneeze or sound that came out of her mouth was like the discovery of a brand new world.
The love he had for her previously was suddenly multiplied by hundreds. As she slept, he slid his big hand over her small one and closed his eyes, finally allowing himself to sleep.
Early in the morning, he did not bother heading in to work. Along with Wenzhe and six of his men, they headed straight to Wushu laboratories which were in the military district of the capital. He wanted answers and he needed them immediately.
Muyang had a bit of a special existence in the army. He was part of the army but he was not a soldier. Instead, he was a secret strategist for the empire. If there was a problem they could not figure out, Muyang and other geniuses of the empire could be called upon to provide a solution. So when they arrived at the military district, he simply showed his military identification and they were granted entrance without question.
As they drove past the training courses, track field and shooting range, Muyang wondered how he would react once he laid eyes upon the doctor. Should he punch the man in the face or thank him for what he had done for him.
"Young master, we are here." Wenzhe’s voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Let’s go." He commanded and stepped out of the car with a determined look on his face.
Two of his men led the way into the laboratory heading straight to the office of doctor Ouyang, who his grandfather said handled his sample.
When they got to the large office which was filled with files and a few microscopes here and there, Wenzhe rudely asked the first person they laid eyes on, "Where is doctor Ouyang?"
The young woman, who was wearing a white lab coat over her long blue dress, looked at the group of fierce men warily. What did they want? she wondered. How did they even get in? "Wh... Who are you?" she asked nervously.
"Guests of doctor Ouyang, now could you please tell us where to find him?" Wenzhe made his request politely this time.
The young lab attendant whose coat had a name sewn in over the breast pocket which read doctor Yu observed the group of men for a while. They all seemed to be centered on the tall handsome man in the middle. He had not said a word but his smoldering gaze was enough to both frighten and excite her a little bit. His suit looked expensive, very expensive. She could not help but wonder if he was a sponsor.
"Doctor Yu, what is going on?" a male doctor approached them hastily. "Who are these men?"
"They are looking for doctor Ouyang." Doctor Yu answered. Her voice was heavy with relief upon seeing a familiar face. The new doctor dismissed her and he was left alone with the men.
"Excuse me," the male doctor looked at Muyang and his group sternly, "This is a private laboratory, only authorized personnel are allowed in here." He informed them righteously.
"If we made it all the way here then you should know that we are authorized." Wenzhe retorted. "Simply point us in the direction of doctor Ouyang and we will be out of your hair as soon as possible."
The male doctor’s face was overcome with a dim look. Sadness filled his eyes and he said, "Doctor Ouyang passed away months ago. I am surprised that the person who sent you here did not tell you."
"What?" Wenzhe was shocked. "How?" he asked.
"In an accident, he died along with his wife. Their child went missing the police is investigating the case." The male doctor answered softly.
Muyang’s fingers were tapping his thigh repeatedly. He did not like the new information he had just received. The death of doctor Ouyang left so many questions unanswered. Who could possibly help him to fill in the gaps?
"Who was his assistant?" he asked the male doctor as an afterthought.
"I was." The male doctor answered. "Doctor Ouyang was a good man and a great scientist; I don’t know why you are looking for him now."
"For how long did you work with him?" Muyang asked.
"Five years." The young doctor replied instantly and proudly. Working with one of the empire’s best researchers was something to brag about.
Stepping forward, Muyang touched the doctor’s shoulder and said, "Maybe you can answer some of my questions in that case. Leave us." He ordered his men.
"Young master," Wenzhe called out reluctantly.
"You too Wenzhe, I need to speak to him alone." Muyang insisted.
