Chapter 132: Tit for tat
"No," she shook her head, "A big ask is what you want from me. Let’s not pretend that we both don’t know what you want." She said arrogantly. "I want tit for tat, I give you a lifesaving drug and you get me my permit or license to own my gun."
"Hmm," the minister said thoughtfully, owning the gun was illegal but whatever she used to quickly heal those stab wounds mattered more. How many soldiers’ lives would be saved if they had such magical medicine? This was a matter of national importance. "I will have to make some calls first." He said and he walked a short distance away to make a phone call.
Within one minute, T4 notified her that a permit had been sent to her email.
Walking back to her, Minister Su said, "It’s done. For now a temporary permit has been sent to your email. Someone will deliver the physical stamped official permit to you later." He held out his hand expectantly, "It’s your turn."
She reached into her pocket and delivered ten boxes of capsules to him. She noticed the look of discontent on his face. "This is all I can give you for now. If I have more, I will send." She promised.
Being allowed to own a gun in the empire was no joking matter. She had to deliver a large number of capsules to satisfy his appetite.
"I want one thousand boxes every six months. " Minister Su stated.
"That’s ridiculous; these capsules are not the product of ordinary herbs, you can’t expect me to produce hundreds of pills on demand."
"And you can’t expect the empire to cater to your needs without making a few sacrifices. Like I said, your request is a big ask. Owning a gun when you are a civilian is no joke." He emphasized. "There is no rush or deadline on the delivery of the pills, and should you find yourself in possession of more of those lifesaving capsules, the empire will be happy to purchase them from you at a reasonable price."
"Hmph." She frowned unhappily.
"And one more thing Lady Chi, just because you have a permit to own the gun does not mean you should carelessly wield it around or kill people randomly. Should you kill anyone I want to be notified immediately." He said sternly.
As they walked out of the bushes together, she realized that she had one question she had yet to ask him.
"The person who attempted to kill that guard, do you know who he is?"
"I am afraid that is none of your business, you should stick to managing celebrities. " He said rudely.
"Ha!, now that you have finished hunting you want to kill the hunting dog." She said. "This is my event, if someone is here to create trouble; I want to know about it. Besides, I am going to keep digging because whoever this killer is, he stole my diamonds. I want them back."
Minister Su looked at her apprehensively. "You should stay out of this, we have got it handled." He warned.
"My family is here and so many other families that are here because I prepared this event. I will not sit down and leave their safety in anyone else’s hands." She argued.
"So what? Do you plan to walk around with that sniper rifle on your back looking for an unknown assailant?"
"Of course not." She said, "Is this the man you are worried about?" she showed him a picture of the diamond thief in her phone.
"I am not sure." The minister said unsurely after observing the picture for a while. "The shifter is a very experienced assassin. His code name is shifter because he is excellent at disguising himself to get in and out of places without being recognized."
Chi Lian smiled slyly. "Well he won’t be getting past me." She said confidently.
"Oh really, what’s your plan?"
"Someone can cover their face with a mask but their body shape, and height never changes. Unless he can bend and twist his bones to change his body shape, I will find him."
Her smart watch buzzed with a text telling her that it was time for the fishing competition.
"I have to go." She told the minister.
Because she could not put the sniper rifle in her storage, she had long asked T4 to provide a small guitar case which she could use to carry it around. Expertly, she dissembled the rifle and placed the pieces in the case.
"You," the minister said as she was walking away, "How did you learn how to expertly dissemble a sniper rifle?"
She smirked and replied, "The same place I learned to shoot one. In a war." She laughed cheekily and walked away. "By the way, if the cat is not too injured, please have your men bring it to me when they return." She walked away with a spring in her step.
If the minister had been slightly interested in unveiling her past before, he would now be obsessed with it. Thankfully, T4 had eliminated all traces of her past online and left only the breadcrumbs which she wanted anyone looking into her to follow. As long they followed them, she could identify who was digging into her. She already knew that the minister was looking but he had given up after a fruitless search. His passion had definitely been stirred up again.
As soon as she went to the venue, she went into her tent, changed clothes and put away the rifle.
"T4, can you get me fish bait?" she asked.
"Is there anything in this world I can’t get?" T4 asked arrogantly. "If you name it, I have it." He bragged.
"Good for you omnipotent system, now get me one can of bait."
"Host, are you trying to make sure that our Muyang wins the fishing competition?"
"Of course, the father of my child should be so outstanding that other women die of jealousy. And why do you call him ’our Muyang’ as if you are my co-girlfriend?"
T4 pursed his snout unhappily, "Host, I saw him before you did. And I recognized his potential first. Weren’t you reluctant to pursue him in the beginning?"
"That doesn’t answer my question. Why are behaving like my co-wife? I need to have a conversation with Tetra."
"Host!!" T4 stomped his black paws and disappeared from the screen leaving behind a laughing a Chi Lian.
"Hmph, he thinks he can outsmart me." She said to herself and smiled victoriously. "I am a pro at disarming my opponents."
"Here is your bait." T4 said without appearing on the screen.
She laughed as she made her way to the designated fishing area. It was already crowded with fishing enthusiasts and a cheering crowd. Even the old master and his friends including the grand emperor were participating. She quickly located Muyang who was sitting with Mei-Mei in his arms and teaching the very clumsy little girl how to fish.
Some people’s buckets were already partially filled with fish. Muyang’s bucket was very empty because he was concentrating on Mei-Mei.
"How will he win the competition this way?" she asked herself.
