Chapter 131: A killer in disguise

"Uhm, maybe try the same thing. You can send it to a veterinary doctor after." He suggested.

"Will the capsule cause the cat to grow muscular like Blackguard?" One abnormally large animal had created questions and curiosity but if she added another one, people would be curious. Who knew if a mad scientist or greedy geneticist would come and kidnap her because they wanted what she used to enhance the animals genes.

"Host, you are not in the position to hesitate, you need to decide right now whether you are saving it or leaving it to die. Some people are making their way here right now. It looks like that minister you love to pick on."

Rashly, she pushed a capsule into the mouth of the mouth of the hairy white cat and poured some water down its throat.

The rushed footsteps crunching the dry leaves against the ground made her weary. She knew who it was but a small part of her brain could not help but worry. What if the killer was returning to check on his prey?

"Host, your heart is beating wildly, are you experiencing and emotional turmoil?’

"No, just anxious about those footsteps."

"Host, its Minister Su Changming and his men. I told you that they are coming." T4 reminded her.

"I know, I am just worried." She said. "Someone killed the security guard and stole his uniform and pass to infiltrate the event. I don’t think it was just for the diamonds, I made the decision to add diamonds to the dress yesterday. Whoever this is, they are here for something else. Even the stab wounds were precisely made to ensure that the guard bled to death. This is not the work of a thief; it’s the work of a killer."

"In that case, you should know that your gift for completing the mission is a sniper rifle. It shoots ice bullets; they melt and leave no evidence in the body. If you want to kill you must shoot two bullets."

She pulled her sniper gun out of her storage and laid it down next to her without looking it over. She also brought out the smart gun and held it tightly just in case she needed to protect herself. The presence of the minister did not mean the absence of the killer.

Someone squatted down beside her and her eyes met with the ministers.

"Lady Chi, I noticed that you were anxious so some of men and I followed you outside." The minister said to her. Looking at the body and the blood on the ground, he frowned and looked at her. "Did you do this?" he asked sternly.

"Of course not." She said strongly, "There was a theft in the dressing area and the clues led me here." She explained.

"Ah, the diamond theft." The minister said knowingly. He reached his hand out and checked for a pulse. "He is alive." He said in wonder. "Looking at these wounds and the amount of blood lost judging by the evidence, he should not be." Gazing at Chi Lian slyly, he asked, "So what magic did you pull out of your hat this time?"

"As expected of the minister of state for security, you don’t miss a detail." She said. She was impressed with his judgment and reasoning. But she was also worried about his interest in the methods she had used to save the dying man. "Shouldn’t you be rushing the man to the hospital first?" she asked.

The minister scoffed and called a few of his men to carry the man and rush him to a hospital.

"Sir," one of the men said anxiously, "These wounds_"

"I know." The minister cut him off. "Call the rest of the team; tell them the shifter is in the eagle’s nest."

Chi Lian did not understand a single word of what was said. Everything was coded but it seemed as if the minister and his men were worried about something.

"The cat too," Chi Lian said, "Send the cat to a vet and register it as my pet." She said.

The men looked at the minister for approval.

"Do as she says." The minister said.

After the man and the cat were whisked away, Chi Lian, the minister and half of his men were left behind.

"So, are you going to tell me how you saved them or do I need to question your loved ones?" the minister threatened softly.

Chi Lian’s mouth remained tightly sealed. If the minister found out about the capsules, he would want a sample.

"Host, in order to wield your sniper rifle you will need a special permit from the military. If the minister intervenes, you can get approval immediately and use your gun freely to protect yourself and your family."

Indeed, T4 was right. There was a killer here; she did not know who he was or his target. What if it was her, her family or the Jun’s? She would have to shoot to protect them. If she carelessly killed someone and ended up being arrested having permission to use the gun would save her trouble.

"For the last time, _" the minister threatened but she cut him off.

"I can give you a sample of what I used to save them but I need something in return."

"What?"

She lifted her gun from the darkness and showed it to him. A few of his men were alarmed and they pulled out their weapons and pointed them at her.

"Ma’am, put down the gun." Their leader barked.

"Put your guns down." The minister shouted at his men. "If she wanted me dead she would not be showing me the weapon."

"But sir_"

"Now." he ordered.

The minister’s men reluctantly put away their weapons but moved closer and stood by vigilantly. If she tried anything, they would take her down immediately.

"Can I take a look at the gun?" the minister requested.

She gave it to him and he looked it over. "Beautiful." He said. "What kind of bullets do you use and where are you getting them from. What’s the scope and range. Do you know that it’s illegal to own a gun in the empire?" he asked all the questions simultaneously.

"Ice bullets and I have never used it before. It’s a new acquisition that is still in its experimental phase."

"Hmmm, you seem to have a lot of impressive gadgets that are all under experimental phase or limited in quantity."

Cocking her head, she looked at him quizzically. "And." She said questioningly.

"And it makes me curious where you have hidden your lab. I have been racking my head trying to come up with possibilities but nothing adds up. You spent a year in the American empire, is that where your mysterious lab is based?"

"No, I would not risk leaving my precious lab on foreign soil. You don’t have to worry about that, it’s currently here in our empire."

"That’s good to know." The minister was visibly relieved. The struggle to attract talent was very fierce between the empires; Chi Lian was a valuable to the empire and he hoped she was not poached away by another empire. "So what do you want from me?"

"A permit to own my gun." She said blatantly.

"That’s a big ask." He said.
