Chapter 587: What is best for Justin?

She was agitated even more by the nonchalant manner in which her brother was reacting. Did he not see the marks on Justin’s neck? She had been gone for three days and already her son was being bullied. Maybe she needed to go back home and handle this personally.

Beord sighed.

"You sighed!" Scarlet exclaimed. "You sighed! Did I just hear you sigh?" she asked loudly.

"Yes, I am sighing, arrest me if you want. But, I am sighing because you are overreacting Scarlet. You are not even giving me an opportunity to respond and you are just yelling at me. If that’s all you are going to do then for the rest of this call I might as well shut my mouth and allow you to talk."

He raised his voice at her and startled her. It was rare to see him angry, let alone raise his voice at someone. It seemed, she had successfully irked him.

She twisted her lips in a circular movement, suddenly feeling awkward. It was true that she had over reacted and yelled without waiting for a reasonable explanation from him.

Just as he was a gentle giant, he was also a man of his words. He would not be saying a word until she did.

Scarlet decided to bite the bullet and apologize.

She opened her mouth but the words came out softly. "Sorry."

"Did you say something?" Beord played around,a smirk on his handsome face.

Getting an apology out of Scarlet was very difficult, with the exception of the apologies for her past behavior. Beyond that, she was deliberately and loudly unapologetic in most situations. He needed to capture this apology and share it with the others.

"Just tell me what happened to my son?" she sort of snapped, grumbling.

She lowered her eyes, avoiding his judgmental gaze.

Beord’s eyebrows moved upwards and he folded his arms across his chest once more. "Scarlet, I love you but I am not Adler who indulges you in all your whims. If you want answers from me, apologize properly."

Her eyes moved back to the screen, filled with disbelief because she was not going to allow her to get her way so easily as she believed. It was undeniable that in the Su family, she was somewhat spoiled rotten and always got away with everything. It had always been like that because she was fragile and lacked mental strength. Even when her mental strength which was now S level returned nothing changed. If she so much as sneezed right now, the whole family would come running.

It’s just an apology, it takes nothing away from me, she thought.

"Brother.." she said in a small voice.

Her big grey eyes welled up suddenly. On his end, Beord looked at Justin who had been moved out of the frame and then he looked at his sister. He could see where Justin had learned this skill from.

"Is it so hard for you to say sorry?" he asked her, in a resigned voice and his arms fell to his sides. Beord figured that he should just tell her what she wanted to hear and be done with it.

Scarlet was struggling with managing her emotions and it was showing in her personal life. She had never snapped or lashed out at him before. Guilt, a lot of it swept through her body. Mentally, she knew that she should not be behaving like this so she took a deep breath and counted to three and made an apology.

"Sorry." she blurted out suddenly. "I shouldn’t have shouted or snapped at you. Brother, I am sorry."

Her apology was much louder this time round and he heard her clearly.

"I will make it up to you, I promise." she added.

He smiled and nodded. "You are in my debt now, don’t forget. Anyway, this little cutie pie of ours got into an argument with his friend Koko over the same thing all children from different walks of our society do, nobles versus commoners and privilege’s.

Apparently Koko’s mother said you were faking your consideration towards commoners because nobles still had many privilege’s on the Blue star. Koko repeated it to some children on the playground and Justin jumped in to defend you. That’s how he ended up with the scratch marks."

"Mommy I didn’t start the fight. I just wanted to cover Koko’s mouth to make her stop talking bad about you but she scratched my neck." Justin joined the video call, his climbing onto Beord’s body so that he could explain.

"Ooh, thank you baby for defending me." She replied with a fake smile.

On one hand, she was touched that he defended her but on the other, she felt guilty that he was being pulled into such politics at his age.

But she was also visited by anger because she was really doing her best to turn the Blue star into a planet which was more fair than others to commoners. She had personally helped Koko’s family by giving the father a well paying job in the governor’s building.

The mother too, she was an accountant in one of the cosmetics factories thanks to Scarlet. How could she turn around and say such to her daughter? A daughter that she knew was friendly with Justin, the son of the governor.

Apparently appreciation was lost on some people. What more did they want her to do? She was not the emperor and she could not abolish noble status or make everyone equal.

"Sister, this kind of thing is not going to go away. It has been hundreds of years of the same issue. I think it’s time for you to send Justin to a noble school." Beord suggested.

"What?" she asked, shocked.

"He is your son, the governor’s son and a child of the ruling family. Whenever such topics come up he will be pulled into the struggle, it’s inevitable. Children of commoners who are dissatisfied with you or Esong will attack him.

In a school with a large population of commoners, he will be outnumbered. And what happens if one of those children decides to attack him with a weapon intending to...." He made a throat slitting gesture. "Bartholomew’s academy for noble boys has opened up a branch here on the Blue star. It’s time Scarlet. This equality in some aspects program of yours needs a re-evaluation. It must be done slowly, one step at a time, not rushed into blindly."

She shook her head and said through gritted teeth. "My son will not run away from problems like a coward. That is not the kind of man I am raising him to be."

She was the governor of the Blue star, what would it look like if she advocated for equality in the education sector when her son was attending a privileged school for noble children? It would make her a hypocrite.

Beord whispered something to Justin and the little run got down from his laps and run away. Then, he turned to face Scarlet, bringing his face closer to the camera and he said harshly, "He needs to be alive and mentally sound to get a chance to even attempt to run. He was attacked by his own best friend for heavens’ sake. I know that he is smiling but he must be sad deep down. How many more friends will turn on him before you do something? This is not about you Scarlet, it’s about Justin. You are his mother, make the best decision for him."
