Nyx appeared on the roof as soon as Severus left and he stood where he had been sitting.

He looked at his old friend and partner. "You are smiling Argos. Careful, your emotions are starting to poke through your mean façade."

"Who is smiling?" The hound frowned in response.

"Just tell your son that you are proud of him. Why must you make everything complicated? Nyx asked him. He has done a great job at guiding my wife and protecting her so far. Even his loyalty is to her, completely."

Argos dismissed Nyx’s advise. The reaper was a soon to be father, he knew nothing about raising children. "Hound pups are not strengthened by praise. My coldness makes him stronger because he wants to prove that he can be great on his own. We should discuss the green flame more. That thing is getting stronger as your little wife grows stronger. If she is not careful, it will devour her."

"It’s the power of a deity, an unknown deity. It will keep getting dangerous if she doesn’t learn to harness and manage it. It’s the reason why I whispered Apheitos’s name to her in her dreams." Nyx responded.

Scarlet needed that bracelet of kin removed so that she could unleash her powers and learn all she could about them.

"I take it that wisdom has not come up with a possible deity whose power it could be." The hound said.

Nyx shook his head. Through out their long existence, there are some deities that simply vanished, never to be seen or heard from again. "He is coming up with a list of missing deities but the irony is one of the missing deities is the god of the lost, there is the god of the forgotten, the goddess of refuge and a few others.

Some are in the human realms and others...I can’t begin to guess. But none of them had powers of the flame which Scarlet has. There is no God of refiners, Apheitos the God of craftsmen is the closest. I hope she will get answers from him."

Nyx looked down at the natural born reapers who were excited to be back. They were training with smiles on their faces, not even a sign of weariness about the war on their faces. The sun had come up and a new day had dawned. For their happiness, they would fight through every universe until the end of time.

He teleported in their midst and filled the river with more monsters. Training had just started. They would familiarize themselves with their weapons, slaughtering everything until when even the wind was afraid to blow past them.

As for Severus, as soon as he exited the village, Lanta planted herself in front of his path. She had not left after falling out of the tree but stayed behind to wait.

"It really is you." He spoke softly.

He was not surprised that it was her because he had been expecting her.

"What’s up with this village? Why is it locked up even tighter than usual?" She asked him.

"Go and ask it’s leader." He answered.

Lanta smiled wryly. Were would she find Nyx? Even if she did, he would not speak to her about anything anything. Harpies were not at the same level as reapers on the hierarchy of the supernatural.

"What do you want with me?" He asked her.

"I am here on an errand for Carnelia. She is held up on deity duties in one of her human realms, pestilence apparently passed through it. But, she wants to be caught up on everything that she has missed.

She said that she has a feeling the others are keeping secrets from her and so she wants to know if Scarlet knows what they are hiding."

Severus was highly doubtful and he looked at Lanta with questions in his eyes. Carnelia was a goddess. If she wanted to know of something couldn’t she ask Scarlet directly? Why go through Lanta?

"Tell her to go directly to the source. As far as we are concerned, everything that we know, you guys know as well." He responded.

Lanta shook her head, highly doubtful. Lately, it seemed like everyone was scheming and trust was waning thin. The gods were cagey with information and so was Scarlet.

"What about the life angels on our world? Shouldn’t you be filling the human empire with more grim reapers to even the odds because we both know that they are not there to watch over babies. They are also scheming something." Lanta told him.

This was not new information to Severus. The banshee had told Scarlet who told him. He was under the impression that it was one life angel but Lanta made it seem as if there was more than one.

"How many life angels have you seen?" Severus asked her.

"Four, so far." She answered. "For a world which is not about to experience some kind of miraculous birth, a plague or sudden hopelessness, that is one too many life angels."

"Scarlet, the grim reaper giving birth is miraculous." He told her.

She cracked her knuckles as she responded. "If she was having a little life angel baby, sure. But she is having natural reapers which makes their presence unusual. Those life angels....they are up to something I tell you.

I am not so close with Scarlet so I cannot advise her. Instead, I am giving my personal opinion to you. Put more underworld creatures on the Blue star. We have an entire flock of harpies and five warrior reapers ready to do this willingly and they have all been sworn to silence. Even the odds before the life angels overpower her.

Everyone seems to think that they will wait for the moment when she is giving birth or after to snatch her up but what if they are thinking about doing it before?"

Severus scratched the ground slowly as he thought about her words. It was not impossible. But trust between them and Lanta was also not existent because her loyalty was not to Scarlet. They didn’t care what she did, as long as she protected Scarlet faithfully but they didn’t pull her into their inner circle.

At the moment, even Flan only had a single paw inside that circle.

Lanta sensed Severus’s doubt and she sighed. As expected, her words did not sound believable. To them it probably sounded like Carnelia was seeking to put more of her people around Scarlet "Look, maybe a special human baby is going to be born. What do I know, it’s not me that’s having reaper babies that almost every deity wants or has an opinion on.

Just tell Scarlet about this and warn her. Better safe than sorry."

She teleported away. The message she was sent to deliver had been delivered.
