Chapter 561: Shoot the pig
Chapter 561: Shoot the pig
Halley was not joking about Carolyn shooting the pigs which Scarlet had set aside for the function. Pigs, that been carefully raised and fed on crystal water, herbs, rotting fruit from Lythia’s garden and dregs from the four leaf colored plant!!
She was holding a gun and ordering the servants to line them up so that she could aim for the heads.
"You, this crazy bride, put the gun down before I shoot you." She shouted at her sister.
Bang!! The gun went off.
The pigs squealed and some started running around. Scarlet was quick meanwhile to stop the bullet from venturing any further. She stopped it just before it could penetrate the head of one of the pigs.
If the pig had any common sense, it would be trembling and sweating as it sighed in relief because it had just been saved from an untimely death.
"No pig heads at my banquet." Carolyn waved the energy gun around, emphasizing her determination to have some control over something related to her own engagement ceremony. Ever since the planning started, different people had taken charge of everything and left her desires out.
The empress had picked her dresses, Scarlet picked the menu, and her mother had decided what hair and make-up she should wear. The royal family was dictating how she should move, talk, wave and smile.
Her father and brothers had picked out the designs on the invitations, Cecily and Emory picked out the flowers and decoration. Everything had been taken out of her hands and she was agitated.
She was feeling a whole lot of frustration which was driving her to do something crazy.
"Put the gun down." Scarlet reached Carolyn and gently placed her hand over hers. "Let’s talk."
It was an engagement; it was understandable for Carolyn to be losing her mind in some ways. Most brides tended to do that the closer their weddings approached. It was why some people referred to them as bridezilla.
"Come on you crazy big sister of mine, let’s have an in-depth conversation about how you are feeling." Scarlet spoke to her sister softly.
She guided Carolyn into an empty six sitter golf cart and helped her sit down as if she was a helpless child.
"Alix, take us to the horse farm but drive slowly." She said.
The cart started moving and Scarlet turned to her sister. "Lay It on me. I am your safe zone for life because I am your sister. You and I, we are a different version of me and Adler."
Carolyn chuckled and shook her head. "Nobody is like you and Adler."
"Ho! Are you denying the extent to which we are close?" Scarlet asked her.
"Yes." Carolyn replied. "You two are gross. It’s like Ooouh, look at us we are brother and sister and we love each other so much. Ooouh, look at us we would die for each other and kill for each other."
Scarlet chuckled because one, Carolyn was speaking in a squeaky high pitched voice making noises similar to a rat and two; she was hugging her body and moving her hands around as if they were vines.
"We do not hug like that or talk like that." Scarlet denied, strongly.
"There is a reason as to why your husband doesn’t get along with your dear Adler. It makes him feel as if he is competing with another suitor for your heart constantly. Okay, who do you love more between Adler and Esong?"
Carolyn, who Scarlet sought to comfort, was suddenly unleashed and her full attention was focused on Scarlet.
Scarlet looked turned her head to the front and said, "Maybe I should have let you shoot the pig after all."
"Eh, too late." Carolyn forced her to turn around and looked at her expectantly. "Choose between your husband and your brother. Who do you love more?"
The answer in Scarlet’s mind was obvious, it was Esong. However, if Adler was asked to make this choice, he would not hesitate to pick Scarlet over Arya because for him, family came before everyone else. This made Scarlet feel guilty because not choosing Adler was a betrayal of their bond in a way. If he heard that she chose Esong, he would surely feel some type of way about it and not in a good way. She didn’t want to answer the question so she turned it around.
"Well, what about you? Adler or Markay?" Scarlet asked Carolyn.
"Adler of course." Carolyn answered without a moment’s hesitation. It was almost as if she had been preparing her life for this question and getting her answer ready.
"Why?" Scarlet asked her.
"Because, we are Su’s. Everyone else in the world, no matter how good they are to us, they can never be blood. Lovers can betray you under the right circumstances."
"So can family." Scarlet chimed in.
"That’s true, but nobody in our family would do that. The night after we saw the video of general Sang attacking you in your office we came up with a whole plan to break into the headquarters of the mecha warriors, drag him out and kill him ourselves. It’s treason to kill a mecha warrior, but we were ready to do it for you because that’s what Su’s do. We have each other’s backs no matter what."
She tilted Scarlet’s face her way and said, "I know that you are crazy about Esong but your answer should be Adler. The Wu’s will always look out for the Wu’s. You should see it from the way they never abandoned Emory despite her less than appropriate actions so many times. In the same manner, the Su’s will always look out for the Su’s. When it comes to nobles, never let your guard down because we are all loyal to our own. Most of us anyway."
Carolyn needed Scarlet to remember this desperately so that her love for Esong did not lead her down a disastrous path as it had once done. Being exiled to the Blue star had been hell, torturous hell every single day. They had become lucky when Scarlet’s teacher came along and saved her which in turn saved their lives. Who knows what would have happened if that teacher didn’t come along?
At least one or two family members would surely have died during the winter last year from starvation, the cold or the beasts. The mutated beasts which attacked last winter had been bigger in size and stronger. Scarlet’s knowledge had saved them from a big disaster. She wondered what would be coming this winter.
"I got it," Scarlet who was unaware of what her sister was thinking removed Carolyn’s hand from her face. "What’s bothering you?"
"Nothing." Carolyn answered.
"Mmm, I don’t believe you." Scarlet told her.
"Fine, you don’t need to force it out of me, I will talk." Carolyn responded.
Scarlet sneered as she looked at her sister who was giving off the appearance of someone who was being tortured for her information. She had a frown on her face that expressed her unwillingness to talk.
"I am not forcing anything out of you." Scarlet told her.
Carolyn acted as if she was deaf and nothing that Scarlet had just said had made it into her ears. "I have got it; you don’t need to twist my arm. I will say it, I will reveal everything."
"For real, you don’t have to." Scarlet even waved her hands in an ’x’ shape, encouraging Carolyn to keep her secrets.
"I don’t think I am ready to be engaged to Markey." She blurted out.
