Chapter 531: Darkness in Nordem

Scarlet had no idea how she got to bed or at what time but when she opened her eyes the next day, it was way past lunch. She was alone in bed and Esong’s side was cold. He had probably gone to work so early in the morning.

She sat up and stretched her arms, dispensing of all the stress in her body.

"Alex, open the curtains."

She wanted to take a look at the outside view to see what the weather was like which would determine her dress code.

It was dull outside, the skies were gray and heavy rain was falling down on the rain shields.

"Heavy winter coat it is," she thought.

She wondered then where her son was on this very rainy and very cold day. "Alex, where is Justin?"

"He is currently at school mistress." The AI answered.

She frowned a bit and bit her bottom lip. She was quite sure that she had told him to stay behind today because he would be exhausted after all the festivities. Did he go to school willingly or had he been dragged by his father. If not Esong then it would be the Wu’s.

"Alex call....uhm..." she was about to ask the AI to call Fey when she remembered that her office was closed for the day.

All of her employees had been given the day off.

"Who do you need me to call mistress?" The AI asked her.

"Never mind do not call anyone." She answered.

The plan which had been forming in her mind was canceled. Since she wasn’t going to work, then she might as well stay in and cultivate.

"We still have an unfinished mission," Severus popped in.

Flan was right on his feet and she appeared immediately after he did.

His reminder jogged her memory. The mission on Nordem was still incomplete even though she had not stepped foot in there ever since she went for the small world competition.

That little trinket was really too well hidden. How had they still not discovered it?

"I had forgotten about it." she said.

"We haven’t, lucky for you." Severus told her. "Now get dressed and let’s go."

"She must have a bath first." Flan told him.

The female hound looked at Severus with obvious disgust on her face. Didn’t he know that hygiene was important?

"For what? Nobody is going to smell her." Severus answered derisively.

"This is why I don’t like you, your understanding is limited." Flan told him.

"Oh no, she doesn’t like me. Whatever shall I do?" Severus responded dramatically. He looked at Flan and smirked. "Oh wait, I don’t care." he growled out.

"If you didn’t care you would not be responding." Flan told him, completely unbothered.

"Why should I not respond and allow you to have the last word?" he asked her.

Scarlet watched them bicker for a while and came to the realization that the honeymoon was over. They united for a short while when she was in the underworld and when the deities were on the Blue star. Now that everything was back to normal, they too had switched back to their everyday mode.

She pinched both of their ears really hard and dragged their heads close so that she could look into both of their eyes at the same time.

Then, she yelled and said, "I can’t do this, it’s way too early in the morning for me to endure your bickering. Either shut up and follow me to Nordem or I will hand you back to the deities of the underworld, permanently."

"But..." Severus whined.

Scarlet’s eyes turned a deep shade of reddish gold, her aura too changed and Severus kept quiet. She raised her eyebrows questioningly and both hounds nodded.

She let go of their ears and smiled. "See we are one big weird happy family that is capable of being civilized. Give me ten minutes to take a bath and we can set off."

Exactly ten minutes later, she and the hounds had arrived in the once almost familiar world that was now completely unfamiliar. Nordem, in it’s entirety had been plunged into darkness.

Scarlet could not even be sure that this was the same world.

The sky was pitch black and nothing could be seen with normal human eyes. Humans had different lighting devices which they were using to aid their vision. Occupied apartments were lit up and the vibrating sounds of different power sources like generators were loud in the air.

"Damn, what happened while we were gone?"

"The goddess of darkness Lythia happened." Flan answered her question.

"I told you that an abandoned world is free for all things destruction when it comes to deities. The clock on this one is running out so they are amping up speed." he told her.

She recalled having a similar conversation about this with Severus. It surprised her that Lythia was also engaging in the destruction of this world. The goddess was so wonderful to her that she always assumed she was a soft goddess who pitied and loved everyone. Then again, like Severus always reminded her, all the deities were the same.

Right past Scarlet, one man chased down another, grabbed his supplies and slit the other’s throat.

"Here we go again." Severus said with a sigh.

They had just arrived and fresh souls were already popping up. Not just the one who had just been killed but there were others around.

"What?" Flan asked him.

"Souls, in this world they are just like flies." he told her.

"Are we reaping or minding our business?" Severus asked her.

Scarlet was not one to ignore souls in need, not unless she had to anyway. She opened her soul gourd and took in every available soul in her immediate vicinity.

"And the evil souls?" Severus asked her.

She shook her head and looked far ahead. Energy from two warrior reapers heading their way told her that it was not necessary for her to do anything.

"Let’s just find answers." she answered. "Where should we start from anyway?" she asked.

Both the East and West had strong monstrous energy and she could not decide if she wanted to east or west. Severus’s nose would be a good contributor to her direction of choice.

"East." Severus said.

"West." Flan said.

The two hounds shared unimpressive looks and Severus scoffed.

"East." he repeated.

"West." Flan insisted.

Scarlet snapped an imaginary stick into two pieces. Sixteen minutes, that was all the time the little truce had lasted.

She decided to make the choice for herself, one which would not have anyone smirking or boasting. She looked out and said, "Well, let’s go south. I have a good feeling about the south."
