Chapter 482: I miss mommy.
Chapter 482: I miss mommy.
Scarlet was unaware of what was happening in the real world as she was facing a battle of her own. A battle between herself and two sirens that attacked unexpected, out of nowhere.
They were quick and ruthless using the water filled paths in this ruined palace to attack and hide. So far, she had been scratched twice and Severus had been bitten on the buttocks.
They also kept humming and singing, clouding Scarlet’s judgement.
She and the hounds had been on the defensive all along, being attacked out of nowhere unexpectedly because Severus insisted that they stay somewhere dry. But Scarlet was tired of that now.
How could she get to where she wanted if she cowered from sirens all the time? It also was very clear that they would not be giving up anytime soon in their attempts to kill her.
"Screw this." She said. "From now on, we are going on the offensive."
She spread her arms out and created a mist net, adding a touch of a green flame to it. Then she sat closer to the water and waited.
"What are you doing?" Flan asked her.
"Guarding my prison." Scarlet answered.
The two hounds looked at each other and then sat down on her left and right side.
She got a small bottle out of her soul gourd with water from Lythia’s spring and poured half a drop into the water.
She closed her eyes, and waited like a prison guard who had all day long to keep an eye on his prisoners.
It did not even take a minute for movement to start under the water. But this time round, Scarlet was ready.
Like a good fisherman, she waited for her prey to trap itself, and closed the net.
Suddenly, it transformed to resemble her mist cage and the screeching begun.
Severus looked at the sirens that were being drained of their energy fast and he scoffed.
"How did you know that they would fall for it?"
"At the end of the day, a monster is a monster." Scarlet said.
All monsters liked spring water from the deities. It was like a bear with honey. No matter how many times the bees stung it, the bear was willing to risk it all for some honey.
"I recalled something I heard when we were in Nordem, before I let that banshee come home with is. The monsters wanted soul energy, rejuvenation water and other special things from our realm."
The screeching died down and the her cage vanished like smoke as the dry bodies of the sirens fell back into the water.
She did not want other deities or reapers to find out about her green flames so she was using them minimally and sucking energy like a grim reaper as permitted in the small world rather than refining.
"Let’s keep moving." Scarlet told them.
Back on the Blue star, Little Justin was standing outside his mother’s training room with a pout and impatient look on his face.
He was tapping his left foot up and down, a habit which he picked up from his great grandfather Etienne.
It was his I am tired of waiting unsaid expression.
Justin touched the doors and scanned his eyes and hands but it would not open.
"You can’t go in little lord Justin, the door was locked from the inside by the lady governor." The guard on duty told him.
Justin’s eye welled up and his bottom lip trembled. Suddenly he started to snivel and the guard was lost.
"I miss my mommy." Justin said in a small nasal voice.
The guard who had no idea what to do placed a hand on Justin’s shoulder and squeezed it gently.
"Little lord, uhm, don’t cry. There, there, good boys don’t cry." He said awkwardly.
In the midst of this awkwardness, Cecily came over searching frantically for Justin as she called his name over and over.
"So this is where you are you little darling." She said.
Justin turned around and threw himself in her arms.
"I miss my mommy." He said again.
Cecily tousled his hair and lifted him up.
"Your mommy will be with you soon. You can see her on the special channel she gave you. Why don’t we go and call your daddy instead? I know that he is eager to hear from you."
She carried him away from the door, walking quickly and talking about different things in order to distract him.
As soon as she returned to her wing, she sat him down next to Emily who was watching cartoons.
"Let’s call your daddy now." She said.
Justin nodded and Cecily called Esong.
He took his time to answer, and with every ring, the smile which had been forming on Justin’s lips faded bit by bit.
Cecily was so tense, as if this video call was the most important thing in the world. If Esong did not pick, her little grand baby was going cry surely.
"Hey." Esong appeared and waved.
Cecily sighed in relief, her belly which she had clenched unbleached.
"Oh thank God." She mumbled.
"Daddy, it’s me, it’s Justin." He shouted eagerly.
One would think that Esong was deaf with how loud Justin was.
"Yes, I can see that it’s you. Why do you have a missing tooth?"
Esong was sure that his son had no missing tooth when he last saw him.
"Really, brother!! So you don’t know that children lose their temporary teeth for permanent ones." Emily answered with laughter in her voice. "Your little rascal here decided to sneak away and eat a lollipop even though he had a loose tooth. You can guess the rest."
Esong squeezed his eyes together and stared at Justin.
Justin covered his face and peeped at his father through small gaps in his eyes.
"I miss mommy, daddy." He said.
Smart boy, Cecily thought. He was successfully distracting his father from his crime.
Esong truly could not scold Justin when he said that. Justin was attached to his mother by the hip. Where one went, the other usually followed. It was quite understandable that he missed her.
"I miss her too son."
"Really?" Justin lowered his eyes and asked.
Esong nodded. "Really, I miss her so much."
"Did you cry because you miss her?" Justin asked him.
Emily laughed and Cecily chuckled.
"Did you?" Esong returned the question to him.
Justin shook his head and denied it. "I am a big boy. I promised mommy that I would be brave and wait for her."
Esong upper lip trembled, and laughter which was obvious appeared in his eyes. His son’s eyes were slightly puffy and reddish.
Also, a guard had sent him footage of Justin trying to get into Scarlet’s training room.
The little one had learned how to lie but he would let him get away with it. It was something minor after all.
Even little boys had their pride to keep.
"Well I cried." Esong told him.
Justin gasped and looked at Cecily and Emily as if this was the most scandalous thing he had ever heard in his life.
"Great grandma, aunt, daddy cried." He said loudly.
"Maybe you should comfort him." Cecily suggested.
Justin nodded and a seriousness came over him.
"Daddy, I will tell you a story like mommy does for me when I cry. I will tell you night time for baby star."
In his small voice, Justin started to narrate the story by heart, word for word.
Emily groaned and covered her ears. Every night, Justin listened to that story read in his mother’s voice every night.
Somebody had to write a new one because this one was getting old.
Cecily did not care about the over use of the story. She was simply glad that Justin was not sad anymore.
