Chapter 464: About the competition

"So, what do you think about my family?"

This question was paused by Beord to Lanta once Adler and Arya departed from the ice cream shop were the two couples had gone after leaving the castle.

"It’s nice." Lanta replied. "Everyone is all smiles and all love and sunshine. You guys are like the annoying perfect human family."

Beord had raised his hand, fingers and eyes on the ice cream menu. He was just about to order for two sparkling ice cream cocktail when Lanta responded to his question. For five seconds, he froze and raised his eyes to meet hers lazily.

"Human family, you say that a lot." he told her.

He completed his order and leaned back against his seat making himself comfortable.

"Say what?" She asked him. Her head tilted to the left and then then the right. Her eyes roaming all over the ice cream shop as if she was searching for something. Her nostrils too, flared. She was acting in a way that strangely reminded of her Severus.

"Human,"

He leaned forward and took her hand. When they were together, he wanted her to be as focused on him as he on her.

"You tend to say, ’you humans,’ as if you are not one of us." he added.

Lanta smiled at him dryly.

"Oops, slip of the tongue." she claimed casually.

Beord strangely didn’t buy it. He knew that she had secrets like her family which she always talked about generally not giving specific details.

Her residence in a hotel for tourists and yet her name was not on any list of tourists that had come to the Blue star. He knew this because he checked.

And her weird way of eating his food. She never ordered for herself, he ordered and she took from his food. Sometimes she acted as if she was stealing it.

"Well, I don’t mind if you are from one of the other planets. I met a guy in school who told me that he came from this planet where they had divided tongues. He showed me his and it was like that of a snake, if you have ever seen one, they have this forked tongue." He put two fingers out and tried to show her what a forked tongue was.

"He was a good guy, kept to himself mostly but good nevertheless." he added.

Lanta rolled her eyes and chuckled. "I am not half snake." she told him.

As a matter of fact, she did not come from any of the neighboring planets as he so easily thought. The time to explain her origins had not yet come.

"I know." he said softly.

He caressed her right hand, brought it to lips and kissed it. With a charming smile on his face and a love filled look in his eyes, He said, "All I am saying is that I like you and I want us to be devoted in this relationship.

We may not have known each other for long but there is something about you that gives me peace. Having you by my side makes me content, like I have found my soul mate as my sister likes to say.

So miss Lanta, no second name." he said and laughed, "I am okay waiting until the day when you decide to open up to me."

Lanta smirked and stole his newly arrived ice cream cocktail.

He had been doing that lately, trying to sneakily get her to reveal her second name. But most creatures like her had only one name. Perhaps it was best to ask the reaper for help and a proper human identification.

"But mission first," she reminded herself. She could not dive head first into the relationship without completing her mission first.

What she needed were answers to what Nyx was doing on this planet and what he discussed with the deity of wisdom.

Scarlet, after leaving the meeting went straight to her office and locked herself inside for privacy and from there, it was off to the underground.

First, she delivered the souls in her soul gourd and watched enviously as another reaper delivered a strong soul. From there, she went straight to Lythia’s palace.

Along the way, as she went to Lythia’s favorite spot, she greeted other grim reapers with a smile. The entire place seemed busy and there were more reapers than usual.

"Oh, aren’t you on a mission?" a reaper she only recognized by face asked her.

"I am taking a break." she answered.

"Cool and good luck." the other said.

"Eh, thank you." she replied loudly with a wave of her hand.

She continued on her way and located Lythia standing over two golden spirit monkeys that she was scolding vehemently. The two monkeys had their heads bowed in shame like little children who had been caught red handed misbehaving.

"What did these imps do?" Scarlet asked.

The two monkeys looked up and gave Scarlet unappreciative glares while Lythia waved her hand, ordering them to go away.

She turned to Scarlet and motioned for her to follow along as she led the way deeper into the gardens. "I would warn you not to anger them but you never listen to me anyway. The monkeys are vengeful, and they keep grudges for long periods of time. Do not be surprised if you are hit by rotten fruit out of the blue one of these days."

"Speaking of the rotten fruit, can I take it?" Scarlet, picked and chose what she wanted to respond to.

The monkeys hit reapers with rotten fruit all the time whether they held grudges or not. The fact that fruits which were eaten by gods could rot never ceased to amaze Scarlet.

Shouldn’t they be able to keep them fresh for eternity with their powers?

"You would think so, but that’s not how it works." Lythia replied to Scarlet’s’ thought. "What do you want with the rotten fruit anyway?"

"Some I will feed to my animals and the rest I can use for fertilizing my own gardens. I recently acquired some peach seeds and I want to plant them. I want a whole district of peaches and other fruits in my world and I think this rotten fruit might somehow make my trees healthier or make the fruits sweeter."

Scarlet was like a scavenger in the underworld. She wanted to take away everything that was unused at every available opportunity. Lythia wondered what she would when she visited other realms.

"Talk to death, not me." Lythia told her.

"En, thank you." Scarlet smiled. "So what are going to discuss? Is this about...." she looked around, not daring to say it if other reapers were around, "my four little darlings."

"Yes an no, everything is connected. We are going to talk about the small world competitions because your invitation arrived."

Scarlet recalled all that Severus had told her about the small world competitions and she squealed. The chance to level up had come, she would finally leave the ranks of low level reapers.

She squealed and clapped her hands.

"Yes, yes, yes."

"I would not celebrate too quickly if I were you." A new voice joined them.

Carnelia, was there, waiting for them in a pavilion that was sitting in the middle of a pond of water which was filled with black flowers.
