Chapter 448: Deep in the shadows

With Lanta gone, she and Severus stayed in place and looked at each other. They both absorbed what Lanta had so rudely shared.

Scarlet was already aware of the god of life being a possible threat to her and the children but other reapers!!

A breeze of wind blew by, whispering a reminder to her. Reapers were very competitive in nature, they craved strength. Giving birth would probably make her the most desirable female reaper in the underworld.

One annoying Ramslin was enough, what would she do when they doubled? The female reapers would probably hate her.

What if one went psycho and decided that it was not fair for her to have children while they did not and tried to kill her babies?

"Lythia." She called in her mind.

"I am here." The shadow goddess answered immediately. "You are safe, we are protecting you and you have the bead of infinite protection.

If you were in danger, I would have told you already."

"Right, like you told me about the pregnancy." Scarlet answered sarcastically.

A momentary silence filled her mind.

Then, Lythia’s voice was heard. "I did it to prevent all of this. Of what use is it to worry about things that may or may not happen? Carnelia simply overreacted by sending that harpy. I guess she doesn’t trust me and the lord of death since we didn’t share the news of your pregnancy with her.

Also, take the words of the harpy with a pinch of salt, they are well known liars. Harpies always have a different game plan. Whatever she is there for, I can guarantee you ninety percent that it’s not what she said."

"Can’t we ask the fire goddess?" Scarlet thought that the solution was that simple.

"Yeah, my sister is not talking. All she said was that it was something important which was related to the underworld. Even I have no idea what she is up to.

But I can promise you this; I will be by your side when time comes for you to give birth. As a matter of fact, you will deliver right here in my palace. Nothing will snatch your children because I will make everything dark before anything gets to you.

I will hide you so deep in the shadows that no one and nothing can find you. There is a reason as to why all the deities are afraid of me." Lythia assured her.

Who wouldn’t be afraid of darkness? One cannot fight what they cannot see. Darkness brings out mind numbing fear in everyone, especially when you know that something in that darkness is out to get you.

Lythia’s words calmed her nervous heart and made her feel better but they also kind of creeped her out. Hiding someone deep in the shadows where no one would ever find them was like saying you would throw them in an abyss and that they would never climb out of.

"See you overthink everything." Lythia told her.

"I can’t help it." Scarlet mumbled.

"Do you want me to spend the night with you?" Lythia asked her.

Scarlet drew her head back and shouted, "Ha!, you just want a vacation."

"What, what’s wrong?" Severus asked her.

"Nothing," Scarlet told him. "Let’s go home."

"Aren’t we going to buy a home?" Severus looked at the entrance to the green paradise village.

She recalled the plan which they had made last night, to purchase a home here for the sake of her convenience and that of the children.

"Right, let’s go for a tour." She told him.

"No need, I already picked out a few places that I think you will like." He jumped up with excitement.

She paid the entrance fee and they went into the village.

Lanta had stayed behind, hiding herself in the trees that were at the entrance of the village. She watched Scarlet and Severus go in and she teleported.

When she surfaced, she was inside Carnelia’s palace, in the presence if the fire deity. Immediately, she went onto her knees.

"Rise," Carnelia ordered her.

Lanta stood up and faced the fire goddess who was playing around with a small fire breathing dragon on her throne.

"I sent you on a mission and you decided to have sex instead. Have you been in desperate need of a man Lanta?" Carnelia asked her softly.

Lanta shivered, and clenched her hands. When the fire goddess spoke softly, danger often followed.

"It was not my intention, great fire. I felt his soul calling to mine; I have not heard the call in four thousand years. How could I stay away from him?"

"It’s not why you were sent. You could have engaged in your mating at another time. If you don’t give me some relevant information right now I am going to break your wings off and send someone else." Carnelia threatened.

Lythia fell to her knees and prostrated desperately. "Please, I will do anything to be with him. I beg you great fire, do not pull me away from my mate."

"What have you found out?" Carnelia roared.

The palace walls trembled, echoing the rage of the great fire goddess. The bells outside the palace rung. They sent out a warning to those who would come close that her flames would descend and set everything ablaze if all was not righted immediately.

"Nyx." Lanta blurted loudly as she trembled in fear.

Carnelia calmed down, the flames dancing in her eyes cooled and she looked at Lanta with a harmless smile.

"Go on child." She said cheerfully.

Things were about to become more interesting, it seemed.

With calm restored, Lanta felt slightly safer so she raised her head up. She hoped that what she reported back would be enough to save her wings. A harpy that could not fly was a useless harpy, she might as well die if that was her fate.

"I have managed to find out that the missing deity of that world is the deity of wisdom."

Carnelia abandoned the small dragon and looked at Lanta, the corners of her lips raised upwards in a smile.

"I found a forest fairy on that world. According to him, Nyx met the deity of wisdom there one hundred years ago."

Carnelia clapped her hands and laughed.

"Oh my, Nyx was a busy boy it seems. So, what did they discuss?"

Lanta swallowed saliva heavily and shook her head.

"He was too afraid to listen in on the conversation so he didn’t know what was discussed. But, he said that the god of wisdom was not seen in that world again after that meeting."

Carnelia smirked and laughed.

"Forest fairies have a penchant for eavesdropping, return and do what you must to find out what they discussed."

Lanta quickly bowed her head respectfully and teleported out of the castle, escaping as fast as she could with the chance she had been given.

She could not help thinking that this had been such a shitty day.
