Chapter 434: Nasty business

Three deities were holding what they deemed to be an urgent meeting in the underworld. They were meeting in the death lord’s palace over a matter that concerned them all.

The only matter which concerned them all lately was Scarlet of course, the pregnant grim reaper.

"The small world invitations are out." the old deity was the first to speak.

"It’s about time." Carnelia answered.

"Yes, it’s that time." Lythia concurred with Carnelia.

The old deity released a round gold egg like ball in the air. It had intricate patterns of waves in it.

"It’s the water god’s turn." he said.

Carnelia folded her lips and made a disgusted face.

"Tridon, I loathe Tridon." she said.

He was the god of the seas and oceans, all of water while she was the goddess of fire, of course they didn’t mix. He could not stand her as much as she could not stand him.

The other two deities did not react to her obvious and well known dislike of the water deity. It was nothing knew, just like the battle between the deities of life and death or light and darkness.

Every god had their opposite and none could stand the other but they co-existed.

"This is Scarlet’s invitation." the old deity mentioned.

The three looked at the round golden ball with different thoughts running through their minds. What they all thought about were the possible consequences of Scarlet participating in these competitions.

"She can’t go." Carnelia uttered with a finality to her words.

"I don’t think that’s your decision to make my fiery sister." Lythia told her.

Unhappy, Carnelia looked at Lythia and asked her calmly, "Do you really think that it’s a good idea for her to go? Tridon’s monsters will be coming for all grim reapers because of me. In case you have forgotten, Scarlet is a grim reaper carrying our new generation.

Are you willing to risk those children and their safety? I am not."

"Calm down Carnelia neither one of us is willing to risk her safety." The old deity said

Carnelia waved her right hand, and smiled.

"I guess that settles it then, she is not going. You should have said that instead of being all dark and mysterious about it."

The old deity and Lythia shared a look and then he looked at Carnelia.

"I didn’t say that she was not going."

Carnelia froze and turned a sinister look on to the old deity and Lythia. These two were what one would call thick as thieves, they must have agreed on something before she arrived.

"Are you trying to make me angry?" she asked him in a deep, strong voice. It sounded as if a thousand voices were speaking through her.

"Calm down." The old deity said to her, commanding.

"Listen to us first before you rain down fire in the realm." Lythia told her in a soft voice. "I intend to speak to her about all the possible dangers she might face. She is a mother, the instinct to protect her children is more prominent in her than winning a competition.

I will convince her to get herself disqualified quickly. This way, she can exit the small world without much of a commotion.

If she doesn’t go on the other hand it will invite prying eyes and questions from others.

You know as well as we do that an invitation to the small world is a big deal in every realm. Her name is already on the list, she cannot turn down the invitation without a valid reason."

Carnelia’s expression lit up and she suddenly became cheerful.

"Does this mean we are paying her a visit? I want to go too I miss the babies."

As the deities shared thoughts and the old deity worried about Carnelia’s obsession with Scarlet’s children, on earth, Severus tracked down what he had been hunting.

It had become easier for him when he Beord picked him up at the picnic. His heckles had risen as he smelled the stench of underworld all over the man.

It was in his sweat, breath and everything.

He had not just met whatever it was, he had rolled around in it. From that moment on, he had been following Beord everywhere until he saw her finally meet up with a woman.

The moment he laid his hound eyes on her, he growled. What had this foolish human done?

He waited until morning for her to leave the hotel and then he ambushed, grabbed her and teleported them to the roof of the castle in Blue city. Somewhere where Scarlet was not.

The woman, to Severus’s great annoyance was laughing hilariously as if all he was doing was futile.

"Shut it, don’t force me to rip your wings off." he growled at her.

Unbothered, the woman climbed to the ledge, sat down and dangled her legs without an ounce of worry.

"Don’t think about escaping me." he growled, again.

Lanta laughed dryly and asked, "Why would I escape? Don’t think you captured me because I couldn’t get away from you. It skips your mind that not only can I teleport but I can fly as well."

"What are you doing here harpy?" he barked.

He knew what she was as soon as he saw her hair and the wind following her everywhere she turned. She was one of Carnelia’s little minions, her messengers and the ones who multiplied her craziness.

He was willing to bet that she was blowing the wind when Carnelia caused that forest fire.

Harpies were half bird-half woman creatures, they were ruthless fighters and they had a reputation for having sticky fingers.

Their beauty was deceptive and captivating, that was until they morphed and resembled real birds then one would take off running for the hills.

Lanta looked out at the city and refused to answer.

"You need to leave, you cannot be here." he warned her.

"I don’t work for you hound, I work for the fire goddess and I go where she tells me to. My new permanent posting happens to be this world. And what do you know, I found myself a human mate."

She stood up and smiled provocatively at Severus.

Haha, she laughed.

"You should get used to me hound, you and I are going to be family."

Bright orange wings spread out from her back and she dived down from the castle.

Severus was hoping that she would somehow fail to fly and crush to the ground but he was not that lucky. He saw the orange flash in the sky and identified it as her.

"See you on Saturday for the family breakfast." she said.

Her words were carried by the wind and they went into Severus’s ears directly.

The hound growled and pranced, then he howled at the sky and teleported. Harpies were nasty business, he needed to inform Scarlet immediately.
