She gasped and her eyes widened as she took in the shock of his answer. Visions of children being beheaded made their way through her troubled mind which was struggling to make sense of his cold answer.

Suddenly it made sense why Bibi was terrified of the RGB coming for Caleb, they would take him and kill him.

"Don’t torture yourself with the harsh reality of our existence. It is they way things are done and how they have always been done." He further said when he saw the rapid movement of her eyes as she thought about many things.

"It doesn’t have to be that way." She said softly. "There is a solution, my experiments have yielded positive results. We should tell the emperor to stop the killings immediately."

It was not natural, the children did not have to die before their time was up. The adults too in fact, not if the disease could be cured. She would have to expedite her plans to cure the darkness.

"Let it be for now Scarlet." Esong said. Her tests may have yielded results on a small scale but the darkness too had degrees, some people had it much worse than others. If she claimed to have a cure and it did not succeed on all levels the politics involved in the aftermath would send them both crushing. They could even lose ownership of the Blue star as a result so it was better for her to take it slow.

"No." She replied with determination.

He grabbed her shoulders and said, "Look, the darkness is a terrible illness which drives people to do the most terrible things to other living beings, things that only sick minds could think of. I have seen men kill and eat their own children because of this illness and this is not even the worst of cases I have seen. When it comes to children, it’s even worse because their innocence hides the sickness perfectly. As if that’s not bad enough, you have parents who are determined to protect these children and they hide their crimes as much as they can. That little boy could kill his entire class in a fitful rage or tantrum by stabbing others with something other than a needle or use any other weapon easily accessible to him. Our son could end up being one of the victims, wake up and see the writing on the wall clearly. If you are not extremely confident in your cure, then continue working on it slowly."

He spoke so coldly and ruthlessly in the beginning as he shook her body like a tiny ragdoll. His tone softened up towards the end of his statement however.

She wrenched his hands off of her shoulders and took a step backwards away from him. He had been stern with her before but never like this, it was extreme this time round. His jaw was clenched and his stare insane. It made her feel her like a child that had just made many simultaneous mistakes and she ought to be ashamed of them.

"Are you understanding me?" he asked her with frustration accompanying his tone.

"Of course she doesn’t." another voice answered unwelcomingly, intruding on a private conversation between husband and wife.

It was Emory, his mother who had made her way to the lobby of Scarlet’s private wing. She was probably here to look for Justin as she did everyday and as always, she would be turned away with an excuse.

Esong was sure that the lobby had been empty when he and Scarlet started having this conversation and he had no clue as to when his mother had arrived.

"What are you doing here?" he asked her with his two fists clenched as he readied himself for her unpleasantness. Not waiting for her answer, he turned to Scarlet and said, "Go upstairs."

Emory scoffed, and laughed disdainfully before waving her hands and saying in a mocking tone, "Oooh, it’s big and bad Emory here to scare the dainty damsel Scarlet and she must be protected at all costs. Please, this routine is getting old Esong, she is neither dainty nor a damsel. Her fake timidness is nothing more than a revelation of her humble background which she can never wash off no matter how many times she takes a shower." she sneered proudly, arching her neck upwards to mimic a look of ancient noble ladies.

"Keep craning your neck like that and you will soon resemble an ostrich." Scarlet reiterated.

Esong laughed lightly and Emory frowned heavily, her eyebrows turning all the way inside as she glared at him.

"What is an ostrich?" she asked. "Are you insulting me? How dare you insult me?" She raised her hand, aiming for Scarlet’s cheek.

Esong stopped the slap by grabbing his mother’s hand but Scarlet was already filled with a tickling feeling of feistiness and she had been dying to teach Emory a lesson for the longest time.

She aimed her leg out and kicked Emory really brutally, taking satisfaction in hearing the sound of her bones breaking just before Emory let out a high pitched wail and dropped to the floor.

"Next time, think twice before walking your legs in here to insult or beat me up." Scarlet said, mocking Emory and taunting her with her eyes.

On the ground, Emory grabbed her broken leg as unwilling tears flowed down from her eyes as a result of the immense pain. "You bitch, Esong, take me to a hospital, now. You daughter of a whore I will get you back, you bitch!!!"

She looked back and forth between a perplexed Esong who was staring at Scarlet in disbelief and his mother who was screaming about how much pain she was in while cursing Scarlet continually as well.

At the height of his confusion, a figure dashed past them and dragged Emory by the hair. Her screams turned into high pitched screeches as the now very visible figure of Mega Su took out anger of unmentionable proportions on Emory.

"Daughter of a whore!!!, daughter of a whore," Mega repeated the statement over and over.

Everything suddenly became even more chaotic than it had been as Scarlet supported her mother, shouting "Yes, mother, she said we had humble beginnings, she called me a bitch and she said women of the Su family are seductresses. Oh, she also slapped me, mother it hurt very much, it hurt." Scarlet made herself look pitiful, faking tears additionally to sell her accusations.

Mega slapped Emory immediately, "You beat my daughter!!!’ she shouted angrily. "I have never even beaten my own daughter."

A small crowd of servants and guards in the castle was beginning to gather and enjoying the action, while Scarlet’s personal guards locked the lobby and rushed to close other doors so that no outsider would walk in on this scene.

Some of the Su’s like Dorian, Elroy, Carolyn and Gregor had already made it inside. They Su siblings stood to the side and snickered, having no intention of intervening.

"Mother, get the ribs." Elroy shouted.

Dorian dashed in and pulled Mega away from Emory while Esong strived to save his own mother from the brutal beat down by pulling her away from his mother-in-law.

He was very grateful that at least one person in the Su family was sane enough not to resort to violence until he heard Dorian saying, "Honey, the servants are watching, just trap her in a dark corner and give her a good beating."
