Chapter 341: Gossip and officials

When the meeting ended, most of the details especially those pertaining to the revelations made by captain Zorl turned into one of those, ’Did you hear about this?’ stories.

The officials mouths moved faster than their feet as they hurried to share what they had learned and before the clock struck midnight, the story of a man pricking women in the mall had made it to star net.

Scarlet sighed in dejected disappointment when she saw that the news was being reported by medias on other stars. Tourism had not yet started and already the image of the Blue star was being tarnished.

Esong pulled the small monitor out of her hands and switched it off. "You have been reading all the articles related to this disaster since you opened your eyes and you have not stopped no matter how much I tell you that it’s a temporary hurdle. Forget it, and have your breakfast." He told her.

She had been teasing a small spoon in the bowl of milk and cereal but it had not touched her lips to provide nourishment to her since she sat down.

For a woman that voraciously attacked her breakfast every morning with an appetite that rivaled his, this was quite disconcerting.

She dropped the spoon, closed her eyes and whimpered like a wet dog before saying in a whiny disgruntled voice, "It’s a disaster, we have officially become known as the prickling planet. Do you know what kind of disaster this is?"

It was a public relations nightmare and she had no idea how they would recover from it.

Esong picked up the spoon, scooped some milk and placed it at her mouth.

"Open up." he told her.

"Uh-uh." she replied dismissively, and moved her mouth away from the spoon. "This is more important Esong we must have these articles taken down immediately."

He gave up on feeding her and put down the spoon. Then he observed her nervous demeanor with a thoughtful look in his eyes. She would not be letting this go anytime soon and even if it took her an entire day, she would search for the means to rectify this problem.

"Why not just catch the pricker?" he asked her.

"You mean prickler." she amended.

She thought about her words for a moment and raised her head, wondering if she had truly used the word right. ’Oh well, I am not a language dictionary.’ she thought. Whether she or him had said the right word did not matter. What mattered was the genius suggestion that Esong had just made.

She looked at him and saw him steal a spoon of cereal out of Justin’s bowl and stick his tongue out at their little son playfully. Justin retaliated in kind, stealing a donut from his father’s small pile of three chocolate donuts. Esong stuck his bottom lip out sadly and folded his arms while Justin stuck his tongue out.

On seeing the playful war being waged between father and son, she thought that perhaps calling Esong a genius was stretching it too far. But he was brilliant, and this was a brilliant idea.

"I have to go." she said.

She stood up abruptly and hurriedly packed up her donuts and fruits. The bowl of cereal went into Severus’s big bowl and the greedy hound happily lapped it up.

"Bye." she kissed father and son on the tops of their heads and run out of the dining room quickly.

Esong and Justin helplessly watched her run out the door as if this was a race for her life. Justin seemed to have questions in his eyes, but Esong had no answers.

"Women, huh." he answered the unvoiced questions of his son with a shrug.

Justin frowned, seemingly even more confused at his father’s response. What puzzled the little one even further was watching Severus run out as soon as he finished up his milk. Why did he appear to be in as big a hurry as his mother?

"Dogs, huh." Esong said, with another shrug. His own Hachiko was engrossed in his breakfast by the window of the dining room. In his opinion, Hachiko was more well behaved compared to Severus who disappeared and appeared whenever he wished.

Scarlet who left the governor’s castle as if she was being pursued by something waited for Severus to make his way to the car and then asked the new driver Milo, to drive her and Tion to the mall immediately.

This was a short ride because he turned on the sirens which gave the governor’s convoy leeway to speed through traffic in case of emergency.

When Milo stopped at the first red light, she sighed impatiently.

"Why are we rushing to the mall governor? Is there a big sale today?" Tion asked her.

Big sales happened every once in a while when new foods were added in the Blue mart. When they happened, everyone acted as if they had lost their minds, rushing into the supermarket and fighting to get a piece of whatever it was.

It also happened with new clothes, shoes, armor, cars but it was always worse when it came to food. People could not help their greed.

"Not a sale, we are going to hunt for a criminal." She answered.

Tion tilted half of his body and faced her with questions in his eyes.

Why were they going to catch criminals when the RGB existed to do this job? If this news reached general Esong, it would not be good.

Scarlet laughed lightly and suddenly at Tion. Over time, she had learned to read the expressions on his face. Right now, he was worried about her criminal catching venture and probably about what Esong would do to her guards if he knew. "Don’t worry he knows and I won’t be catching the criminal personally, Severus will."

She rubbed Severus’s head affectionately and smiled down at the hound.

Tion nodded and faced the front, his body relaxed. Scarlet was not sure if this was because Esong knew or Severus would be doing the heavy lifting.

When they arrived at the mall, she told Alex to hijack the security cameras and begin sorting through footage from when the first victim to be pricked appeared in the mall.

What surprised her was the large number of people in the mall, women especially seemed to be there by hundreds. Everywhere she looked, she saw women gathered in groups, congregating and holding discussions. They were not even shopping or eating something, just standing around idly. She used her extraordinary hearing to listen in on some of their conversations.

"We have been here for an hour and nobody has been pricked yet." One said.

"I want to see the pricker so badly, this is so exciting." Another said.

In another group, a female RGB officer who was disguised as a normal civilian was updating her fellow officers on her status.

As if the presence of many willing or curious victims was not enough, she saw some ministers and officials on the third floor. Even more amazing was the fact that her mother was here, participating in this hunt for the pricker.

Scarlet was befuddled and amused, the pricker would certainly be famous if he was caught. But she also wondered if none of these women were afraid for their lives.

Someone that could prick with needles could certainly evolve and use a knife. Did that not cross their minds?
