Chapter 328: First trip away from home

Four days later,bright and early in the morning, Scarlet, Beord, Dorian and Esong met at the spaceport, got on a spaceship and headed off to the grey star. It had been quite exhausting convincing her mother to allow three grown adults in the family to travel.

Scarlet and Beord claimed political duties but Dorian on the other hand barely managed to get his way because he was simply going along to sight see. Mega only let him go because he claimed that his goal was to protect Scarlet.

As for Adler, Scarlet had turned him down the minute he advocated himself for the short trip. If he went, who would protect the Blue star? How could a defense minister simply up and leave as he wished?

And when it came to Justin, it was even worse because he cried, screamed, threw a tantrum as if his body was being set on fire. He screamed so much, holding on to Scarlet’s thighs for dear life and her heart ached so much that she gave up on the plan of leaving him behind.

The journey was short anyway, and they would be back on their own planet before sunset.

On the spaceship, she was standing besides Esong’s chair, engaged in a witty conversation and laughing. They had been engaged in this playful banter for at least ten minutes.

"Mummy," Justin called her from the safe confines of the chair in which he was strapped extremely safely. He barely had room to wiggle around in that chair.

"Yes my sweet boy." she turned around and replied.

"I am scared." he said in a small voice.

Her hands brushed up against Esong’s upper shoulder lightly and deliberately and she squeezed it just before she abandoned him to go and attend to Justin.

She removed his straps, sat down with him in her arms and she strapped them both into the chair. His head was on her chest, with his head facing the window.

He would have enjoyed the scenery perhaps but there was not really much to see since they were using warp speed.

"Is this better baby?" He asked.

"Mmm." He responded lazily as he tightened the grip his small hands had on her dress. He was happy and calmer because of her presence but not all of his fear had been alleviated. If this spaceship experienced any turbulence, he would start crying out of fear.

She put earphones in her ears and his, got her airpod and turned on some soothing music.

She deliberately chose very old slow songs that would probably bore the little one and put him to sleep.This was her hope anyway.

As the music played, she kept her eyes on the Esong, staring mostly at the back of his head since he was facing the front and all of his attention was on the monitors, screens and many little buttons that did a number of things which she did not know.

She had this sappy ridiculous smile on her face as she looked at him, lost in her own thoughts of the feelings she had for him that often sent her heart into a tailspin.

She often found herself wondering lately if she was falling in love with him or was the sex so good that she confused lust for love. Everywhere she went, and in everything that she did, it was if his presence followed her. Even now, while she looked at the back of his head, she could almost swear that she smelled the scent of his new almond scented cologne.

She was smiling to herself when he spun his chair around, looked at her and he wiggled his eyebrows playfully and winked flirtatiously.

Whether it was simply the effect he had on her or the undeniably attractive authoritative air he exuded in his official uniform as mecha warrior, she could not tell. But whatever it was, it had her heart beating fast and she blushed, lowering her eyes as well, looking away from him.

Sitting opposite of her directly, Beord watched and witnessed this exchange. He rolled his eyes and looked at his terminal.

"They are at it again" he texted to Fey.

He received an immediate text, which was two emoticons of a disgusted face that wanted to vomit and he laughed.

As for Scarlet, she was ignorant of her brother’s irritant disdain of her romantic escapades as she kept her eyes on Justin for the rest of the flight. Her plan would have been successful if the journey was not a short one because they arrived at the Grey star in less than hour, just when he started dozing off.

The doors of the spaceship opened and everyone started getting off but Scarlet made no move to get up. Justin on the other hand was eager to get down, and he wiggling his small body from side to side, while he looked outside of the window excitedly.

From the window, he would look at Scarlet with curious eyes that were asking her why she was not moving.

"Stay still." She told him. She would have to keep an eye on him and ensure that he did not go wandering off when no one was paying attention.

She unstrapped Justin and Esong took him into his arms.

"We are here," he said.

"I noticed, but I stayed behind because I wanted to remind you not to take your eye off of him. You know how Justin gets, his feet can be restless sometimes." She told him.

"That’s why I am carrying him and when he needs to walk, I will hold his hand." Esong answered.

The one they were talking about had become even more impatient. He could not hold it in anymore and he said, "Mommy, let’s go, uncle is waiting for me."

"Did you make an appointment with him?" She pinched his cheek and asked.

Justin blinked and stared at her, not understanding her joke.

Esong held her right hand and they walked out of the spaceship together, slowly, leaking their time. They were in perfect sync, and their steps were even matching.

Anybody that saw them would simply think of them as the perfect family.

Scarlet smiled and took a deep breath as took in her first breath of air on the grey star as a human.

"Do you smell that Esong?" She asked.

"What?" He asked.

She smiled and said, "Freedom."

He had no idea what it was like to be imprisoned to one world, and never allowed to leave.

"I should take a picture and send it home." She said.

"Then, stand still." He told her.

He controlled a small drone with his mental strength, took a picture of their family of three and it was sent to her bracelet terminal immediately.

Scarlet could not help but marvel at the ingenuity, so, it was this simple to take a selfie or picture!! No need for selfie sticks or asking strangers to take a picture for you.

"Cool." She said.

Esong frowned, wondering what was cool about his actions, it was a very normal thing. But he did not dwell on it for long and he led her down to meet the welcoming party which awaited them on the geound.
