Chapter 317: Interstellar mushrooms.

Sephora looked around the beautiful clean office, and she gave Scarlet a look of dazed confusion.

"Here," she said. "You want me to release the animals here inside your office?"

"Yes," Scarlet confirmed. "Not all of them, just one of each so that I can confirm what you have found and if it’s edible or not."

"Alright." Sephora said.

She stood up and removed a pod from the storage bracelet on her arm. The pod was opened and she released the first animal.

"Rabbit, it’s edible." Scarlet confirmed. She was not surprised that they found rabbits because she bought around two hundred of them and Severus spread them out in the forest.

Sephora took that back and released another animal.

"Goat, also edible." Scarlet confirmed.

And so it continued, with Sephora releasing, Scarlet identifying and Precious recording the species after taking a picture.

They identified a buffalo, a long fanged tiger which Scarlet declared inedible and dangerous, a deer and a green snake, that was also inedible but had medicinal value.

"We found a handful of rabbits, many chicken and ducks and some goats. We also found some sheep in a ravine, wild pigs and these." Sephora went on to say and she placed a few items on the table.

Scarlet looked closer and looked at the the large light pinkish flower like plants which had a slight unidentifiable scent.

’I have seen this before.’ she thought.

The underworld forum identified them as chicken mushrooms.

"Mushrooms." she said, with a slight gasp. These ones were called chicken of the woods mushrooms on earth, even though these were much bigger than the ones she remembered.

"Mushrooms." Sephora repeated after Scarlet.

"Mmm," Scarlet confirmed and nodded. "These are edible, where did you find them?" She had seen a few food streamers cook different types of mushrooms a few times in the past. And when she lived with her grandparents in the countryside, her grandfather taught her how to differentiate poisonous and edible mushrooms.

Sephora tapped her bracelet terminal and showed Scarlet pictures of the area where the mushrooms were found. It was a part of the forest with very tall, thick trees. Most of them were almost bare, preparing to regain their shine after a long winter.

"The mushrooms are still there and they are growing on a bunch of old trees." Sephora said. She also expanded the picture, showing her the many mushrooms which she could not explain, how they had thrived. "Do you want to go and take a look?" Sephora asked.

"Of course." Scarlet said eagerly.

She sat up, ready to follow Sephora but recalled the hang over soup which she wanted to give Adler.

She sank back into the chair and shook her head. "Uhm, I will have to do so later because I have something urgent to take care of at the moment. However I will buy these from you, and because you discovered the mushrooms, I am willing to give you a share from their sales after I teach the people how to dry them, prepare them and all that."

Sephora frowned, and Scarlet noticed this immediately.

"What, do you think it’s unfair?" she asked her.

"We found the mushrooms first." Sephora said.

"But the forest is mine and so are the trees. You found the mushrooms but you don’t own the trees, I do. Our deal was for beasts, not vegetation. However, to maintain this good relationship between us, why don’t we split the haul fifty-fifty this time round." Scarlet made another offer.

She needed the business of the Shadow guild on the blue star and now that she knew where the mushrooms were, the gathering team would start a search of the area for more edible foods.

"I can sell that to my father." Sephora said. "Who should I hand over the animals to? And who will pay us?"

"The live stock department, of course." Scarlet answered. "The snake too, I want it."

"We charge a high price for mutated beasts." She said.

"I know." Scarlet told her. "You can discuss it, decide on the price and inform me. Precious here can take you to Fey and she will process your payment."

"Thank you governor."

Scarlet left for Adler’s office immediately after that meeting and she found her brother, sleeping with his head on his desk.

"Tsk, tsk, I knew it." she muttered to herself. There was simply no way that he drunk that much and suffered zero consequences.

For one small moment, she considered knocking on the desk or dropping something that would make a loud noise and startle him but she chose not to. It would be a cruel prank to play on him.

She gently tapped his back and said softly, "Brother."

He would not wake up on her first attempt so she did so again, shaking him a bit more vigorously than she had done before.

"Brother." she called, again.

He groaned, and slowly raised his body, albeit unwillingly.

"Whaaaaat?" he drawled out in a soft but deep growl.

"It’s me." Scarlet said.

In the back o mind, she thought, why did I just say ’it’s me’ as if I am the magical cure to his hangover.

"Everything hurts." Adler complained as he looked at her with his eyes partially open.

Then, he leaned back in his chair and closed them again.

She shook him gently and held the food flask in front of his eyes. "I brought you some food." she said. "No, hangover soup." she clarified.

He brought his head forward and sniffed the food flask.

"It’s good for that headache, and the empty stomach because you must have thrown up a few times, I am sure. This is a pain killer, take two and eat the soup." She put down pills which she acquired from the underworld.

"Oooooh." he groaned.

"What were you thinking?" she asked him.

"Oooooh." he groaned, again.

"How much did you have to drink?" She asked.

"Jeez, you are starting to sound like mum." he complained and massaged his forehead with his hands.

"Oh!" she gasped., "Our mother worries and nags, I do not do any of those things."

"And what are you doing right now?" he asked, sarcastically.

She hmphed, and turned around to leave without asking what she was most desperate to know, where he had spent the night. He left with Arya, so what followed?

"Thank you." he said when she reached the door.

"You better not waste my food or I will garrote you." she threatened.

She left his office and went looking for Esong because she wanted to visit the grey star before the sentencing of the space pirates started, which would be soon. After that, serious work would resume and she would have much to do.

In her mind, she heard Severus saying, "You were second, I am picking up our share of the rewards right now."

"Alright." she answered.

She briefly accessed the underworld forum, looked through the many messages congratulating her and ignored a message from Ramslin saying that he was coming to the Blue star.

He was a grim reaper that could pop in and out whenever he wanted, so why tell her. She drove herself to the agricultural research center, dismissing all thoughts of Ramslin immediately and filling her mind up with thoughts of Justin.
